Sorry but I couldn't resist an opportunity for puns galore Grin

BYOSnowman · 05/10/2015 11:38

When was that? Did they express this to other people?

Hopefully that means we are finally near the end!!!

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2015 11:43

Last night's, but also after the cricket match Will was not impressed with his cheating though of course Eddie was laughing about it.

R4 · 05/10/2015 12:05

Talking of sport, are we going to have a topical insert where Kenton - for once not blaming David for everything - has a rant about how much the England rugby team has cost him in lost revenue.Sad

Gruach · 05/10/2015 12:36

Hang on, just one moment - Rob rented Blossom Hill cottage on the strength of his employment at the mega-dairy. But he no longer has a job. And he doesn't want Helen to have one either. And they're expecting anorher child?

That £10,000 won't last for ever. So his plan is that they will all four live off Bridge Farm's rolling income?

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2015 12:39

Yes they need to sit down and have a "talk' don't they?

Gruach · 05/10/2015 12:49

If I were Peggy I'd be seething. But no doubt Rob will be able to wheedle an even more substantial amount out of her to give her new great grandson a good start in life.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he soon starts ruminating on how ridiculous it is for Pat and Tony to live in the big house - while he and his growing family are forced to make do in a tiny rented cottage.

InimitableJeeves · 05/10/2015 12:55

Yes, that was one point about Rob's saintly action in volunteering to take over the Hunt Master's job because he had time to do it: it would have been good if Helen had said yes, but you won't, will you, because you need to find a real job.

Re the move to Hexham, wasn't it going to be around July? ISTR thinking it was just as well that they'd had to delay it because of the need to install the robotic dairy, otherwise the move would have happened just before Josh's AS levels - not that that seemed to bother either him or his loving parents. Though it's true to say that it could well have been delayed, not least because the flood would have affected Justin's plans.

AskingForAPal · 05/10/2015 13:29

I think I'm the only one who found Jenny's change of heart on Carol convincing. I think she'd been picturing herself as a more glamorous Mrs Marple, sniffing out secret plots, looking for clues, interviewing witnesses etc.

When she was confronted with Carol's unvarnished confession, it took the wind out of her sails and made her feel that helping a very, very sick man - one she had once loved (is that right?) - to die a few hours/days of pain before his allotted span was in fact not the crime of the century and was, if anything, perhaps quite brave and certainly very hard. And probably made her think really about what she would do in the same position. I don't think she would have done the same, but maybe sightly admires Carol now for having the courage to "help John out".

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2015 13:35

No you're not the only one, I agree with you AskingForAPal. Lottie's Analysis upthread is brilliant have a read Grin.

blanketneeded · 05/10/2015 14:32

Thank you Gruach. Great idea re initiation. Like everyone else, I'd start with the Big Move storyline. It's as if sw thought: "oh but hang on, there has to be some fall out over the move not happening, we can't have them all going back to normal immediately as if nothing ever happened". So they over-egg Kenton's money problems so that he & David have a big argument, to make it more credible and that David hasn't completely got away with the u-turn.
Ppeat that's quite interesting about French law knob & Eddie & Joe. He was never more sickening than when talking down to them "funny, the Millers didn't mention you were on their land ..." Sad
I'm on my phone so can't read this back. Hope it doesn't read utter nonsense.

Toomuchtea · 05/10/2015 14:32

How on earth is Rob funding his riding and his suggestion of Henry tagging along on a pony? Or hunting - is he a subscriber (thousands, probably)? Or day by day, which is not necessarily cheap (looked up the Cottesmore and it starts at £65 a day) and then there's the cost of hiring the horse, and I think that's generally north of £100 a day.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2015 14:42

Yes blanket It's since the Fr. Revolution and the aristos talking down to the peasants.

No it's not nonsense Grin.

LillianGish · 05/10/2015 14:43

It's just so dull though. What's the point of Carol - is she just there to resurrect ancient history (which I think SOC was hoping no one would be able to remember in too great detail so he would be able to rewrite it to suit himself). He hadn't counted on the utter doggedness and long memories of listeners. I wish he'd move away from plot driven drama to concentrate on the characters in the here and now and think about how they'd behave to move the story on. There's so so much material with a character like Jenny anyway when you look at who her children, husband and mother are she doesn't need the contrivance of an Agatha Christie plot or a comedy kitchen fitting.

Toomuchtea · 05/10/2015 14:46

I am sad that Phoebe has taken a back seat, as indeed has Kate. If you have that set of relationships with JD running along at the same time as the Carol storyline you get a much better picture of Jenny.

Do agree Lillian - kitchen fitting supremely irritating storyline, though I did enjoy JD's railroading of Brian.

Travelledtheworld · 05/10/2015 14:53

Yes indeed Toomuchtea hunting is a very expensive past time the Beaufort Hunt in Gloucestershire charges £250 per day in the main season and the subscriber rate runs into the thousands.

Also very little chance that a hunt would allow someone relatively new to them just help out with Masters duties. A MFH usually invests considerable money in the hunt and the running thereof and would be elected this position by the members of the hunt.

We can only hope for an exciting storyline whereby Rob has a serious fall and breaks his back and is paraplegic for life.

EBearhug · 05/10/2015 14:56

I think SOC was hoping no one would be able to remember in too great detail so he would be able to rewrite it to suit himself

He was badly advised then. The BBC has a long history of listeners pointing out when they get details wrong in TA.

BYOSnowman · 05/10/2015 15:04

Now that would be a storyline - rob is bedridden and Helen takes her revenge!! So then we would have a dv sl quickly followed by abuse by a carer.

lottiegarbanzo · 05/10/2015 15:07

Good point about the Bridge Farm house Grauch. But Tom and Johnny are in residence too aren't they? So alternative accommodation needed for Tom (and no foreseeable babies). Johnny back to the caravan whence he originated perhaps?

Travelledtheworld · 05/10/2015 15:12

Hmm, just listening again on the iPlayer as I was cooking the dinner last night. So, Rob has been out to ask the landowners for permission to let the hunt ride over their land. In real life this would have been sorted out weeks ago.

I forgot Oliver was a joint Master. But he doesn't like Rob does he ? And did he borrow a horse from Shula ? She doesn't like him either does she, since she witnessed the saboteur incident?

Toomuchtea · 05/10/2015 15:37

I am overinfested I know, but Travelled, I too was wondering where he got the horse from. Do they have hunt kennels? Is it possible he'd have borrowed a hunt horse? As you say, Shula is not a fan, though I think he rides well enough as far as we can tell (not yet been surprised in the act of beating the living daylights out of a horse though it's probably only a matter of time) so I imagine from a business point of view she'd hire out the horse to him.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2015 15:50

Yes BYOS Or he's so disabled Hell has to do a 'Carol' on him Grin Shock

AskingForAPal · 05/10/2015 16:08

I think Phoebe will be back around the time of Oxford interviews so December, if not before. Applications usually have to be in mid-October so I guess the next thing will be waiting to see if she has an interview. What if she does and Kate insists on accompanying her and making her align her chakras in the middle of the college lawn or something?

enochroot · 05/10/2015 16:08

He's going to get through that 10 grand in short order, isn't he?

Shula might now a do a bit of soul searching and speak up about him becoming master. And the local hunt saboteurs will be interested in the change!!

Travelledtheworld · 05/10/2015 16:19

Toomuchtea yes just slightly over infested.
Very unlikely he would be able to borrow a hunt horse. The hunt staff need the horses to stay fit and sound for the season and would not want to risk their by loaning them out.
He would have to borrow or rent one.
Hunting is a very dangerous past time. Two people died locally last season while out hunting, mainly due to falling and sustaining serious head injuries.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2015 16:49

OOOOH there's a way out for Hell !! Travelledthe I know horse riding itself is dangerous without the hunting added.
