The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

Tom's sounding like Charlie to me. Once they've filled up TA with indenti-voice drama school grads they'll be able to chop and change with hardly a bump. It'll be a wonderfully even soundscape with very little to jar the listener.

nauticant · 28/11/2014 19:13

indenti-voice = identi-voice

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 28/11/2014 19:13

lljkk You're welcome. I miss Old Tom.

That "conversation" with Tony would have been so much more meaningful if we had ever heard them together before.

nauticant · 28/11/2014 19:15

Oh, Tom's not going back to Canada. He's back for good. What a disappointment.

Old Tom was posher

The bedside scene was rubbish because if the acting (and the content)

BiscuitMillionaire · 28/11/2014 19:24

Oh yes Peggy. Tom is such a ray of sunshine, isn't he?

I thought that he was off finding himself and that's why he found out late.

Anyway - I thought the ending at least was realistic. They're making up for decades of the Ambridge Recovery Fairy by putting poor Tony through the unfortunately all too real mill of small improvements and setbacks.

lljkk · 28/11/2014 19:33

I could lick New Tom up especially covered with cream --

Old Tom was whiny & whingy.

I too like Tony's dramatic ups & downs, very realistic.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/11/2014 19:39

FFS Tony would not be squeezing any hands - he's on a ventilator and won't be able to move a muscle.

And a trache is NORMAL PROCEDURE when someone is ventilated for more than a week or so. Pat and Hellin would have had this explained, not suddenly sprung on them

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 28/11/2014 19:41

Never realised till now that there were so many colours in Old Tom's voice. Even though he was mostly whingey and sometimes sounded as if he were reading a very unfamiliar text. And wouldn't stop talking about Kirsty's cake eating habit ...

Oh dear. I don't know what to think.

polyhymnia · 28/11/2014 19:52

I do hope the SWs realise how very irritating and unsympathetic the EB as Carol character is and rapidly move her on/ have her arrested for murder of her husband.

CuttedUpPear · 28/11/2014 19:55

I am hereby opening the book up for bets on how long before NewTom biffs Knob on the shnoz.

Roll up, roll up!

Obvs it will take place on a Thursday. Do we think it will happen before Xmas?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 28/11/2014 20:01

So Tom will be pro organic now I assume

I would also think he has been in touch with his family so knew johnny was there

Bluestocking · 28/11/2014 20:08

That was a most unsatisfactory episode. The previous one was odd - I thought Fallon was very busy doing all the hand-made decorations ready for her Christmas parties - so why did she have time to lie on Carol's chaise longue and drink poppy tea, or whatever the old sorceress brews up for headaches?

Selks · 28/11/2014 21:08

Urgh another crap episode....New Tom is so wooden, and who is writing those dreadful lines for him? Awful.

GypsyFloss · 28/11/2014 21:23

Only caught the last few mins...meh. And written by Keri Davies who has rustled up some cracking lines in the past.

I just miss the whiny sausage baron's voice. I knew where I stood with him and his self-obsession.

I agree completely Bore. Mind you, it was Helen doing the reporting so it was bound to be another major crisis!

CuttedUpPear · 28/11/2014 22:19

There's a thread in chat about TA and Tom in particular.

Lots of names I don't see on theses threads here Sad
I've invited them over! Grin

TeenyfTroon · 28/11/2014 22:28

Film listener so haven't heard the turkey pardon. I'm horrified to read that the turkey isn't really pardoned!!!! That's just not on...

ErrolTheDragon · 28/11/2014 22:52

I'm sure that George will win the day about Lucky - I could hear defeat in Eddie's voice as he said 'don't give it a name'.

I heard once that a state governor was televised doing a turkey pardon, which culminated in him launching the bird to fly to its freedom....from quite high up..... Apparently he hadn't realised they couldn't fly.

LillianGish · 28/11/2014 23:28

New Tom is just ruining it for me. When Hellin told him to talk to Tony I thought what's the point? He won't have a clue who you are! Casting his real life son in radio is totally pointless - listeners can't benefit from any family resemblance. It's another nail in the coffin. Even DH - an occasional listener is outraged - he thought NewTom sounded like Rob. When actors were replaced in the past they at least made some semblance of trying to sound like their characters - Clarrie ( at least twice), Hayley - even new Tony. But Pip and Tom aren't bothering at all.

unitarian · 29/11/2014 01:42

I've got used to new Tony now and there was a good reason for that change if the original Tony was poorly.
Tom and Pip had distinctive voices, like them or not, but you knew who they were immediately.
They've been replaced by actors whose voices sound like other characters' voices and this bear with very little brain can't cope with so much change for no apparent reason.

Cooroo · 29/11/2014 07:58

If I may crash in and raise something everyone stopped talking about pages ago... I think the "sweet little thing" was not the waiter/waitress but the amuse bouche just served?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 29/11/2014 08:09

I think it was supposed to be ambiguous cooroo
