The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

Actually ...

If I were to take over a once venerable radio institution that was considered a bit twee (and frankly laughable when it tried to shock) I might well try to find a way to make it my programme.

If I were very ambitious I wouldn't want to just fiddle about with little bits of melodrama here and there - I'd want to do something fundamental to wrench the whole thing out of its rut.

R4 · 09/12/2014 16:59

Dangerous gameplan Zero. You could ever after be known as The Man Who Killed Off the World's Longest Running Radio Soap.

GypsyFloss · 09/12/2014 17:07

Yes, to both of those views above.

No to the Dopeys leaving. Let them squirm and squirm.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/12/2014 17:09

True.

TeenyfTroon · 09/12/2014 17:17

No, they won't leave.
I've been trying to keep up with The Missing too. It's hard work. I'll be glad when it finishes...
So nice to see Eddnemma with a positive storyline.
And I HATE Carol. Smug cow.

ppeatfruit · 09/12/2014 17:20

Well of course mince pies are for Christmas Eve you have to save some for F.C. as R4 says and the day after too.

The locals think we're mad; I was thinking of taking some to my neighbour (she's diabetic and mine are low sugar) but she'd look at me like Hmm. thinking WTF are these in Fr. Xmas Grin

unitarian · 09/12/2014 17:35

No, I don't think they'll leave Brookfield.

I quite like the way it's going on the whole.

What I don't like:-
The similarity of the new voices to pre-existing ones.
Carol
The dropping of people (Mike & Vicky, Hayley) and incidents in an unrealistic manner. (sink hole!)
The imminent arrival of Kate.

What I do like:-
The possibility that Carol might be arrested and banged up for a very long time -without ever having any more lines to speak.
The Hell/Rob story
The new Tony (now not so new but has settled in nicely).
Johnnie
The bringing in of big name actors or their offspring. (I know that contradicts liking new Tony.)
The predicament the land sale is bringing about within the Archer & Aldridge family.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/12/2014 18:48

So you like the bringing in of bigger names and their offspring?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/12/2014 19:10

"Good luck with that ..."

nauticant · 09/12/2014 19:11

Good luck with that.

Have a biscuit.

hahahahahhaha

unitarian · 09/12/2014 19:16

No. I just like newish Tony.
I meant that line to be in the list of dislikes.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 09/12/2014 19:23

I agree with your likes and dislikes unitarian

I never liked Eeeyorish Old Tony.

Bluestocking · 09/12/2014 19:33

Good luck with that.
Have a biscuit.

Vintage TA, that's the sort of thing I dutifully tune in for!
Now remind me, did William marry Emma? And is he now married to Nic?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/12/2014 19:43

Blue - yes and yes

Unit - phew! I was worried for you for a minute

Nice product placement with the iPad (and why do all these families that are short on cash buy iPads? Surely there are cheaper tablets? And did we ever find out what ed pawned?)

unitarian · 09/12/2014 19:56

That'll teach me to not read through what I've written!

I don't think the thread is dying a death at all. We're all stretched a bit thin this time of year anyway but there's also a sense of waiting for something to be resolved. I don't know quite what it is but I would be a more comfortable listener if one or other storyline got a resolution one way or another.
In other words, I would add to my list of dislikes too many storylines running at the same time.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 09/12/2014 20:44

Can OliviaMN prevail on MNTowers to give us a [cold turkey] please? (With or without a festive f before it)

Then those of us who have stopped listening can post one regularly to keep 3dad's predictions going smoothly Xmas Wink

GypsyFloss · 09/12/2014 21:30

I'm worried that the shoot coming up is going to be problematic for the Grundy sons. I really don't want an accidental shooting of Will by Ed, just as EdnEmmurr have a little bit of happiness.

Bluestocking · 09/12/2014 21:42

.. or perhaps Justin Elliott will detect that Ed is exactly what he needs for a well-paid post in his empire - that would royally piss all sorts of people off!

PhaedraIsMyName · 09/12/2014 21:45

I like Carol.
I don't like new Tom (didn't like old Tom to be honest)

TopazRocks · 09/12/2014 21:51

Will either thinks Emma is not wife material because marriage to him did not work out, or he still holds a candle for her (despite marriage to Nic)- and he sure knows how to hold a grudge. I hope nothing happens on the shoot - unless somehow Ed can be a hero again. Smile

I wonder if Carol is growing digitalis in Jill's garden ..... I was thinking last week I hope there isn't a clumsy euthanasia story (to do with John T.), and then she gets onto a roll - and persuades Jill that life isn't worth living. Esp. in Prudhoe (sorry Prudhoe - I like it there btw). I hope not as that would play into the hands of the anti-euthanasia groups - and it's too important a topic really for clumsy treatment.

LillianGish · 09/12/2014 21:54

I don't think the thread is dying death. I now automatically go straight to the thread after listening, but don't always post. I don't think the Dopeys will leave Brookfield, but I can now see that just making it appear they might leave under such controversial circumstances will have SATTC. It looks as if they'll be losing a few customers. Brian and Jenny will be pretty peeved and I don't think the siblings will be too happy when they realise that they won't be getting the money they'd already mentally spent. I also think it will affect their relationship with Jill who seems to be already transferring her allegiances to Carole.
PPeat I have also made my own mincemeat due to being unable to buy any ready-made in Paris. In fact I even found it hard to find raisins and dried fruit - lots of prunes for some reason, but no currants!

OddFodd · 09/12/2014 21:55

Wow, I'd love that, Bluestocking! Ed so needs/deserves something to go right in his life (over and above Emmur/Keira). I want this generation of Grundys to be happy and prosperous. And some of the Archers to be on their arse instead for a change

TopazRocks · 09/12/2014 21:58

theOne, whilst waiting for MNHQ to provide the [coldturkey] can't you useXmas Biscuit. We'd all know what you meant, I imagine. Grin

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/12/2014 21:59

Ed gettibg a job with Justin would be a story of capitalism corrupting. I don't think you should wish a Justin connection on him!

I was kind of hoping the shoot would see more thawing of the brother relationship. I'm a bit fed up with the feud!!

TopazRocks · 09/12/2014 22:03

I don't think the Archers will leave Brokefield either. I wonder if we are being prepared for Vicki and Mike and Bethany not to leave either now that their sale has fallen through. What with Roy and Phoebe being in such a state of crisis n all.

You'd think we'd have at least heard Helen and Tom discussing Roy, even if they haven't met yet. He won't have known of the affair while he was away.
