The Archers - It's not about the money, money, money, think about Jill's honey, honey, honey, Justin wants to farm by satnav, forget about the prize tag.

Will The Dopeys have buggered off by the end of this thread?
Will Tom finally reach home, after weeks of trekking through the tundra?

Yes I agree about the actress Jessie. The scene with Tony was well acted regardless of her age.

Er it's not real mummytime !!Grin Perhaps a little bit over infested there !!!!

Eastpoint · 02/12/2014 13:22

There's a feature on The Archers in today's Times Diary.

"One of the joys of The Archers is that no one talks about UKIP in the Bull, even though there was that influx of Hungarians a while back. Ambridge does not lack its grumbles, however. The Radio 4 soap's recent spate of exiling, killing, recasting or just silencing characters has dismayed many of its actors. (And if David & Ruth leave that will be the final straw for the listeners to.)

I'm told that some of the discarded or benched actors are now setting up a support group called Ambridge's Replaced Stars Emporium (the acronym reveals their mood), with the motto: Wither Ambridge. They will hold their first dinner next month at which Sean 'Slasher' O'Connor, the programme's editor, will be the star guest, albeit not in person.
One of the outcasts has been asked to make a doll of O'Connor, which will be passed round, with a selection of pins, in place of port."

If this was the sort of show where you could vote people off, who would we want to swell the ranks of ARSE? (or is that to cruel a game to play)

cirrusblue · 02/12/2014 14:30

I read that in the Times too Eastpoint. Maybe a better motto would be Wither The Farm (WTF).

Eastpoint · 02/12/2014 14:37

Very good Cirrus. I meant to add that it would be good for MNOlivia to go to the ARSE dinner & represent us.

HumphreyCobbler · 02/12/2014 15:37

Hello, just caught up with the prog itself and the MUCH more entertaining thread!

I can't stand the way all their principles go out of the window once a lot of money comes into the equation. David and Ruth would be the first to complain about people putting money above the well being of the village or the farm, yet they are happy to sell to the antichrist because they offered THEM enough money. Lynda wouldn't have done it.

ppeatfruit · 02/12/2014 15:42

Humphrey IMO and E it's a human failing; there'd be no 2nd homes lived in by weekenders, in the country would there if it weren't the case?

HumphreyCobbler · 02/12/2014 16:05

I agree. I have no problem with it in the first place, but I am bothered by people who complain like hell when other people do it, only to fall themselves at the first temptation. They could at least be a little more embarrassed!

Just heard the end, Peggy was v moving

WaltzingWithBares · 02/12/2014 16:24

Humphrey, I have managed to avoid temptation

My holiday-home NDNs have offered silly money to buy a few acres of my back field. I have said no on principle because they don't benefit the community in any way (didn't tell them that!). Neither are they horsey or smallholderey-minded in any way, shape or form. NDN just wants to have his own empire in our village. All his groceries are ordered on-line, any work he has done on his house are done by tradespeople 50 miles away, from the town where he normally lives. He complains about noise, chickens, children, cats and calves (lot of 'c's there!!) On principle we won't sell to him however much money he waves at us. His incredulity that we are not interested irritates me.

That said, we're talking a lot of money, but it isn't in the realms of an extra 2.5 million!

ppeatfruit · 02/12/2014 16:34

WaltzingWithBares Congratulations for holding our against people like that, are they weekenders too?

We live in Fr. for 50% of the time and use local Fr. artisans which most of the english don't do! We certainly shop locally in the markets which a lot of the Fr. don't do!!

halfwildlingwoman · 02/12/2014 17:22

WaltzingWithBares, good for you. We have a developer trying to buy a house and land here and the lady is currently holding out. I wonder how long before they get the price right and she has to give in.
I hate it when I see people arrive at their holiday home vans shortly followed by the Tesco van.

So, my mum thinks that Heather will die, and therefore the farm won't be sold.

unitarian · 02/12/2014 17:34

Don't get me started on holiday homes and delivery vans!

I wonder who are members of ARSE. Tom Graham is I suppose but it probably includes HWMNBN and I don't think we'll be starting a petition to bring him back.

TopazRocks · 02/12/2014 18:23

I was thinking a few days ago they needed a 'club' Smile- I was thinking at least OldTom and Nigel would be in it. Maybe OldTony too? Not sure who else ..... Possibly Hayley and co too. Sad Tamsin Greig if she isn't too busy. Maybe she could Skype!!

HumphreyCobbler · 02/12/2014 18:27
cheminotte · 02/12/2014 18:28

I listened to the 2pm edition and once again what Dan was doing back from the army before I realised it was NewTom!

PseudoBadger · 02/12/2014 18:30

Chris would be in ARSE I think, and Ian.

OP posts:
TopazRocks · 02/12/2014 18:37

It's possible Heather Pet is in ARSE too. I hope Ian isn't - yet! What about Amy Franks? Aunt Satya and Mabel. I wonder if they will sit at opposite ends of table. Kathy and Jamie Perks. Sid. Jolene's ex/Wayne? Julia Pargetter - and Lewis. Quite a crowd really.

TopazRocks · 02/12/2014 18:39

Though I think Sid was written out under the 'ancient regime' and by choice. As was Julia. But Julia would be fun to have at a dinner.

TopazRocks · 02/12/2014 18:41

Duh, Julia's actress died, didn't she? Maybe she'd be fun if they had a Ouija board.

unitarian · 02/12/2014 18:59

Lewis. Is he locked in an attic at Loxley Hall?
Perhaps he's helping Lily with her tapestries as the only form of self-expression available.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 02/12/2014 19:12

Oui guess there is only space for one elderly gent who is on the intellectual side of things so they had to get rid of Lewis once jim showed up
