Sexy sex on lovely legs, shearing sheep bare-chested. Tell us how you picture the good folk of Ambridge (and feel free to discuss anything else rural soap-related).

For me, that describes Ed. Some strange people think that it describes Jazzer.
Does it matter what they look like? We know and love their voices (except you Pip)

I liked Nic getting all mock riled up with "So she USED me!" and ganging up with Fagash to outwit Lynda. Nic used to be a bit sanctimonious, nice to see her engaging in a bit of Lil-inspired mischief.

Have we to assume that Carole's visit to Peggy took place off-air? How disappointing.

mummytime · 28/07/2014 07:30

I loved the Lillian bit, especially now she has drawn others into her conspiracy. Its more fun now.

Kirstie Allsop should have had less to say, and the opening speech was awful - followed by an "isn't she great" which was totally unbelievable.

However it did seem that the village shop is about to become a tea room - which would be quite good, it could even still sell some basics, and the post office could be there (or the Church as I've seen elsewhere). They could even be invaded by hordes of Sunday cyclists (as haqppens to the best ones around here).

The one thing about the bypass is, that my council isn't investing money in replacing the local one that is about 20 years past it's sell by date, and is blocked several times a week due to crashes. Instead they are all into green transport plans and getting people out of cars (oh and making the town centre more pedestrian friendly).

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/07/2014 07:31

I loved it! I used to watch Location Location Location and frankly Kirstie Allsop'ps delivery on that was pretty similar to how she was last night in Ambridge. I think it's just how she is.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/07/2014 07:32

Allsopp's. Sigh. That will teach me to go off to check the spelling, attempt to correct it and not preview.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 28/07/2014 08:43

It's easy to be idealistic and positive about big projects when you're young! My dad always says he has seen so many in his years that haven't achieved their goal and were already overcome by the time they were completed.

ppeatfruit · 28/07/2014 09:08

Yes i agree Zero and Jessie* I thought that KA was nervous, she's not used to the radio so it must be tricky to sound relaxed and on TV you're not listening to her in the same way IYSWIM. She has an UC timbre to her voice IMO. i like her though.

And isn't retro the new rock chick? Fallon doesn't have to be a nuclear scientist to gain respect does she? We 're all different. Grin

R4 · 28/07/2014 09:29

And isn't retro the new rock chick? Fallon doesn't have to be a nuclear scientist to gain respect does she?

Retro was a reaction to the recession - trying to make a virtue of necessity. As soon as we have money in our pockets people will be falling over themselves to buy new, just to prove that they can.
However, Fallon could progress over to the antiques side of things, ditch PC Boring and team up with Jazzer as the new Nelson/Lovejoy. That would be fun.

ppeatfruit · 28/07/2014 09:42

Purleese don't wish jazzer on her that's a fate worse than death!

The problem with new stuff is it's a load of badly made crap IMO give me the old\antique stuff anyday. (i'm old btw).

unitarian · 28/07/2014 10:07

I thought KA did just fine and the Linda/Lil rivalry makes me laugh.

If I ever had any sympathy for Roy, which I didn't, then I have no more after his petulant 'plaything' comment. However I do think it unrealistic that he would have to serve drinks. Every hotel round here is almost entirely staffed by 6th formers and students during the summer.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/07/2014 12:57

I also think KA did OK. Quite well in fact.

But I I ceryainly agree that it really does show up how good the actors are when a civilian joins in.

Linda v Lillian in a granny-off. Can't wait! When is the baby due?

PseudoBadger · 28/07/2014 18:41

I'll be catching up tonight!

OP posts:
LillianGish · 28/07/2014 18:52

Just catching up after hols - forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but did anyone else notice Knob's comment when admiring Tony's new bull "A semen straw and an AI gun just isn't the same" - couldn't help thinking about Helen and Henry!
Also I can't believe Roy of the Rotas has gone off in a huff - is his sudden absence going to prompt Freddy to spill the beans about what he saw?

LillianGish · 28/07/2014 18:59

Also can I be permitted a massive R4 name drop - attended a wedding this weekend where John Finnemore of Cabin Pressure fame was best man. I was almost too excited to speak - fortunately both DCs are huge Miranda fans and bombarded him with "Wet-nosed cub" quotes to his surprise and delight (he could hardly remember any of his lines whereas they knew nearly all of them!)

Panzee · 28/07/2014 19:08

Oh wow, I would have been tongue tied too, except for maybe Yellow Car!

nauticant · 28/07/2014 19:09

The SWs are rather keen at the moment to drop in references to past events, whether these are things that actually happened in episodes of TA decades ago or that didn't actually happen but are now being recalled in a false-memory syndrome kind of way so that history from decades ago is being created now.

I wonder what they're trying to achieve.

Selks · 28/07/2014 19:12

Ooh! I want to know what Kirsty Allsop said to Fallon!

PetulaGordino · 28/07/2014 19:13

JEALOUS lil! I went to a souvenir programme recording a couple of years ago but that's nowhere near the same!

While we're name dropping though, I met Temple Grandin last week. Sadly few people of my acquaintance seem to know who she is, but I was excited!

GypsyFloss · 28/07/2014 19:16

So what rare mushroom/ orchid/ vole has Lindy just spotted in the video?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/07/2014 19:24

I'm going to a Souvenir Programme recording in the next couple of weeks! I'm incredibly jealous of Lillian.

Petula, I know who Temple Grandin is and I'm jealous of you too.

Gypsy, my thought exactly!

stilllearnin · 28/07/2014 19:43

I predicted a wildlife angle on the road when it was first mentioned. I was hoping Emma or Jazzer would spot something - all unlikely hero like. From my limited experience it is great crested newts, kites, and bats that cause a stir. Also in my experience councillors tend to think these will disperse to new habitats so not a definite bar to a new road for sure.

PetulaGordino · 28/07/2014 19:55

i remember that prediction, good call

i see so many red kites on my journey to work (through chilterns), they seem much more common again now

Bluestocking · 28/07/2014 21:37

Petula, I know who Temple Grandin is, and am super jealous. She is awesome. Have you seen the (fairly recent) biopic about her?

PetulaGordino · 28/07/2014 21:39

i knew you educated lot would know who she is. i have seen the clare danes biopic. an amazing woman

PseudoBadger · 28/07/2014 22:39

I've caught up. Do you think they offed our Krusty just so we have New Kirsty?
Lillian I noted the bull/AI comment on here but don't think it led to much chat. Do we think Rob knows or not?

OP posts:
R4 · 28/07/2014 23:13

I think that Rob does know. Didn't we have a scene once when Helen complained that she had been open about everything with Rob but he hadn't really reciprocated and was holding back.

I agree about Lindy spotting an endangered something on the video. Haven't we had this before? The idea sounds familiar but I can't remember the context.
