Sexy sex on lovely legs, shearing sheep bare-chested. Tell us how you picture the good folk of Ambridge (and feel free to discuss anything else rural soap-related).

For me, that describes Ed. Some strange people think that it describes Jazzer.
Does it matter what they look like? We know and love their voices (except you Pip)

It does sound like Quainton Smith to me?

Halsall · 26/07/2014 23:24

Sorry to change the subject for a moment, but did anyone see this in the Guardian today?

It did make me come over slightly teary, silly fool that I am although tbh I always found Jeck a tiresome simpleton

Rather like the fact that Sausageboy's pork products are now immortalised in verse.

ppeatfruit · 27/07/2014 10:14

Zero Yes I think I might be a bit peeved if I was a memeber of the regular cast but they occasionally bring on someone who's a bit special don't they? I would guess they just have to (like M. R. polypants,) Get Over It !

Aaaah thanks for that Halsall

alardi · 27/07/2014 11:18

Please Can anyone give plot updates?

What story did Rob spin about his parents, why is Tony so sympathetic?

I gather Jenny Dear had an affair with John T.; Carol knows so she's vile to Jenny-D. But why did John T. have a funeral in Ambridge, where the T's haven't lived for 34 years? Why did Elizabeth remember them so well that she offered LL for free reception after funeral?

Pinkrose1 · 27/07/2014 11:27

Allardi Me too! I was facebooking, mnetting and emailing while listening to the omnibus! Only tuned back in when I heard tony all sympathetic to rob! Blush. Clearly I can't multitask.

StandsOnGoldenSands · 27/07/2014 12:08

Well I have to admit, I enjoyed this week more than I have for a while. The snipey funeral, radio Carter and the lost party invite, Ed struggling to make ends meet, the nature walk, PC Harrassment Burns playing the knight on a white horse to Fallon's damsel in distress, her musings about why she always dates losers...

The only thing which marred it was the Rotaboy saga, which grinds relentlessly on. He is behaving like a teenager, all this sulking is very unattractive. Clearly Lizzie has begun to realise the whole thing was a disastrous mistake.

ppeatfruit · 27/07/2014 12:33

alardi Well the Tregorrans were very popular residents. and John asked for a green burial in Ambridge so I suppose Carol thought it would be nice to have the whole funeral there.

Lizzie offered to have the wake but JD also offered so I can't quite work out why the SWs were making Susan be so bitchy about the relationship between Carol and Jenny.

JessieMcJessie · 27/07/2014 13:45

From what I can work out, Jill was very close to the Tregorrans and is godmother to their daughter, who may be similar in age to Elizabeth? I imagine that Lizzie, happening to have a stately home at her disposal, had enough fond memories of the couple from her teens/twenties to offer it to Carol, not to mention that it was a nice thing for Lizzie to do for Jill.

I LOVED Carol. Most definitely hope that she hangs around long enough to get to know Helen and Rob and ask when the divorce is coming through. Maybe she'll ask Peggy this very question when she goes round with the photos?

Did anyone else notice Jenny refer to Ruari defensively as "my son"? - I have a funny feeling that may have been the first time that she had ever said that, and that she would never say it within earshot of Brian.

ppeatfruit · 27/07/2014 14:08

Yes I noticed that Jessie A very lovely thing for Jenny to say IMO Grin

StandsOnGoldenSands · 27/07/2014 15:26

Oh, forgot to say... The scriptwriters' increasingly imaginative ways of trying to convince us that Roy is an approximation of the guy in the old Diet Coke ad are becoming hilarious. For example Carol's OOH YOUNG MAN act...

alardi · 27/07/2014 18:09

And what about Rob's family? What does everyone think about his parents?

PetulaGordino · 27/07/2014 19:05
BuildYourOwnSnowman · 27/07/2014 19:08

AMateurs do manage to make the professionals look good! Make you realise that radio acting is quite tough!

Wasn't fallon a bit of a rock chick in the past? Now I'm thinking of her dressed in a floral tea dress

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 27/07/2014 19:10

Village shop turned into chintzy tea room?

JollyGolightly · 27/07/2014 19:12

I don't know which is worse, kirstie's wooden intonation, or Fallon's loss of anything interesting about herself.

Ambridge must be the only realm in the land not to.have already reached peak vintage.

nauticant · 27/07/2014 19:17

Ugh. Kirstie Allsop. Wooden lines delivered squeakily.

R4 · 27/07/2014 19:42

alardi are you asking what we think or what the village thinks?

toldmywrath · 27/07/2014 19:56

Omnibus listener here so just caught up. I agree with pp that this week's has been very entertaining. I laughed at Roy & Hayley 'Cropper' misnomer earlier up thread & the cod relationships post stating 'ladies' Could you not post this for real on the relationships board please? Grin

alardi · 27/07/2014 19:59

I wondered what the village thinks, Tony seems almost delighted to have evidence of Rob having PITA family.

But what you guys think, too is fine. :)

R4 · 27/07/2014 20:15

I suppose Tony and, especially, Pat were worried about being estranged from Hellin and the wonder child. Rob gave them 'evidence' of how awful and unsupportive his parents are and P&T are only too ready to step into the breach as wonder parents.
Remember how Tony hated the idea of the pregnancy but, when he came round to the idea, he was besotted with Henry. He seems to be following a similar pattern with Rob.
I cannot understand why the rest of the village isn't gossiping about it - especially Radio Carter.

Swannykazoo · 27/07/2014 20:23

Well Auntie Cardboard has been given a run for her money by Kirstie "fill your house with tat" Allsop. That was dreadful.

Panzee · 27/07/2014 20:30

I must be the only one who thought Kirsty did really well. Loved the knitting conspiracy too! :o

Pinkrose1 · 27/07/2014 21:10

Thanks. It seems Rob has wormed his way into pat and Tonys -what passes for -- hearts.

Lillian is on form again. I so love her and want her to be my favourite aunt. Bottle blonde, smoking (in more ways than one), reeking of Chanel no 5, mink coat wearing (I don't give a toss, dahling) and very un PC.

Roy is pathetic. Your plaything Lizzie! Plaything! Immature Twat face. Angry

JollyGolightly · 27/07/2014 22:34

Tonight's episode was the worst in a long time. I am seriously considering giving up forever, or maybe a week. This would be very difficult as I now have two children who ask to "listen Archers with mummy" but it has got to the stage where I hate myself for caring about any of it.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 28/07/2014 00:35

I thought it was a lovely "Sunday" episode. Very gentle. Everyone going about their business, being who they are.

And we had the reassurance of hearing that radio acting is indeed a difficult skill....
