Ooh Maxy that's me always saying why do people moan about the price of food the Sainsbury's feed your family for a fiver gets my goat as that's a bit pricey for me!! It is only the three of us and I always make more and freeze it. Fruit and veg is so cheap it is the meat that bumps up the price. I do sometimes buy like fish fingers for dd but normally everything is home made so is very reasonable .

FlyMeToDunoon · 11/02/2010 18:42

I got the sainsbury's £10 deal to be delivered on saturday. It's an amazing selection- pork medallions, dauphinoise potatoes, panna cotta and a red wine which is usually very expensive [well £8.99 or summat]
MMMmmmmmmmm
Tonight I am making do with bits and pieces as I couldn't be bothered cooking. The children have just had boiled eggs, houmous, carrot and cucumber batons, tomatoes and sugar snaps. Followed by chocolate pancakes.

maxybrown · 11/02/2010 18:42

see I think fruit and veg is soooooo expensive now. I don't eat it at all anymore well fruit I don't. I have £260 to spend on everything including nappies and all toiletries. We spend about £30 a month on milk!
I really struggle tbh! I buy fruit for james (as he won't eat veg at all) and DH takes fruit to work with him. We buy £2 chickens and have beans on toast at least once a week......i am fussy about tea and coffee though so have to shop to get my bargains for that!!! i don't know where I'm going wong then, like tonight it is chicken soup/stew all homemade from a chicke we had the other night.

Fruit is expensive. I don't eat much as it is for the dds.
They like expensive things like blueberries and mango too.

maxybrown · 11/02/2010 18:47

Yeah same here Dunoon. When I was at work I used to take at least 3 pieces a day with me so really miss it. I love all fruit, yummy!
Actually I love food lol!

Fruit and veg is very expensive. We get through loads. I keep telling DH we have to cut down on meat but he doesn't think proper meal unless had meat/chicken/fish we spend over £100 a week on main shop then prob another £30 through week on bread/milk/veg top ups.

I buy literally whatever is on offer its expensive but we don't go out as in a social life so thats what our money goes on food and gas/elec as they on prepay.

maxybrown · 11/02/2010 19:49

I love meat I have to say! Our Butchers is fabby, we had a gammon joint last night, they are £2.50 does the three of us and a sandwich for me next day.....or just a meal if we are being very piggy but that's a million times cheaper than supermarket!

I am starving now waiting for DH to come home! I will waste away

OP posts:
nicolamumof3 · 11/02/2010 19:53

we get gammon too does two meals like say gammon egg chips then use leftovers for carbonara or something.

im starving too!!

nicolamumof3 · 11/02/2010 19:53

I wish we had a good butchers tho. Terry often gets stuff tho from butchers via work and that is cheap cheap!

maxybrown · 11/02/2010 19:57

yeah that's good for you! I love our Butchers, one of the ups abut where we live atm they are really nice people too. My Mum gets all her meat over here now too!

Oh and my bruv is just moving to worcetershire. he is setting up his own business and GF managing golf club her dad just bought! really pleased for him though as he had shitty younger life really with ex and kids so glad he's moving away - for him!

How much a week on food??!!! Less of us though, dd and I and dinner for her dad. I spend 200 a month on food. Lidel and Aldi (I know I know but trust me it's worth it!) for fruit and veg. Last week melon was 29p, this week 5kg maris piper potatoes 69p!!!

Does anyone know can you take parcels into the post office and send parcel force? I think I've done it before but maybe it was standad parcels?? Sold apples quest and said can only wait in for courier fri, buyer asked me to arrnge it but not paid until just now, can't book it for tomorrow. Can I take it to the post office (and will be more expensive - grr!!)?????

nicolamumof3 · 11/02/2010 20:05

Thats everything toiletries, cleaning stuff loo rolls everything! don't forget theres five of us tho carrielou!! four v.hungry boys. I don't think thats excessive tbh most my friends with three kids spend the same. i shop all over from m&s to lidl.

carrielou2007 · 11/02/2010 20:11

That's what I mean, I spend 200 and that's only 2 and a half of us. When I met dc's dad I used to shop only in M and S and Waitrose, how times have changed! So cheap I can't help myself in Aldi!!!!!

nicolamumof3 · 11/02/2010 20:14

we don't have aldi round here but lidl is great and literally over the road i get fruit/veg in their often.

bread milk i get from iceland...2loaves of kingsmill for £1.50 and 4pts milk £1! i know my offers!!!

carrielou2007 · 11/02/2010 20:19

I get the same in Farm Foods (another place I skulk into!!) every week I get the two loaves of bread and 2 4pts. I plan each day's walk after I drop dd at playgroup to where I'm going for which offer!!

maxybrown · 11/02/2010 20:23

I have to get nappies, shampoo, soap toothpaste deodorant etc for my £260 as well!! maybe I am just crap at it

No Nicola I don't think what you spend excessive for 5 of you!

I agree about Aldi for fruit/veg, but it would cost me £3.50 to go each time so not especially worth it!!

But our somerfield is going to be iceland in a few months so that'll be good! yay! Have discovered farm foods do hovis 2 loaves for £1 and milk cheap too.
