it's an obscene amount of stuff in our house

But then I'm generally pleased with the value for money, whereas I just ordered a quite expensive (IMO, £350) coffee table from the Cotswold Company and was quite disappointed.

At the moment almost none

But one has just opened a 5-minute drive from us so I think this might change

The trouble with Ikea is that once you have one thing, you kind of want everything else in the picture as well - I'd buy the whole shop if I had the money, but just one or two things isn;t enough somehow?

It's like it is a particular lifestyle, or house style, and doesn't always go terribly well with anything else.

I read the catalogue and love it but usually find things on ebay or nearer us in other shops that suit us fine/better. For instance I got a nice dresser on ebay, it was huge and I got it for our new flat - then just as we were moving in I saw two huge old school dressers on ebay, that a friend from school was selling - and they were an absolute bargain, so I got those and they fitted better and look like they would survive an atomic bomb tbh! So the 'Meraker' cupboard got taken to bits and stored in the cellar. It's a shame but they just do the job better and are nicer objects in themselves.

sorry first one we got was ikea, bought on ebay! our nearest shop is a looong way...

MrsMattie · 10/11/2008 06:42

No Ikea in our house. Furnished our whole flat in it last time and when it came to moving, most of it fell apart. Resolved NEVER to buy furniture from Ikea again when we moved into our new house last year, even though it means we have to go without and save up for ages for proper furniture. Worth it, though.

I still go to Ikea for bits and bobs, but will never buy another shelving unit / table / chest of drawers etc from there again!

None, we live to far from a Ikea.

But next year we are leaving the Army and buying our own house, about a hour from a Ikea.

We do have a dish brush....

ohdearwhatamess · 10/11/2008 09:54

Used to be all, now next to none: kitchen table and chairs (about to be replaced because falling apart), curtain rail, laundry basket, few toys.

Hate the place. Would rather poke my eyes out with sticks than visit.

GooseyLoosey · 10/11/2008 09:55

Lots of bedroom drawers and wardrobes and bookcases. Nothing else though. Much of it is just too modern for my house.

Most of our stuff is from Ikea, or Habitat. And our soon-to-be n ew kitchen will probably be Ikea too
