What percentage of your furniture is from IKEA?

it's an obscene amount of stuff in our house

But then I'm generally pleased with the value for money, whereas I just ordered a quite expensive (IMO, £350) coffee table from the Cotswold Company and was quite disappointed.

We don't have anything at all from Ikea.

PortAndLemon · 08/11/2008 22:16

All the bookshelves (we have a lot of bookshelves) and most of DS's furniture.

JackieNo · 08/11/2008 22:17

All over the place. Some passed on by relatives, some bits (wardrobe and table in DS's room) where we cleared out a dead man's flat when we bought our first house and needed furniture (all above board, my dad knew the relatives etc - we didn't just walk in and nick stuff or anything]). DD's bed from John Lewis. One bedside table in our room and the dressing table in our bedroom are mine from when I was a kid. Our house is a right mishmash of stuff. Oh yes, and DH acquired a rather nice Lloyd Loom chair when he was at boarding school, and someone nicked the chair he'd brought with him, and left that one instead.

DontCallMeBANG · 08/11/2008 22:18

Dragonbutter, the only things I know by their names are the Billys, and I'm obviously not the only one.

Let me see - chest of drawers in the living room; three Billys and four dining chairs in the dining room; another Billy in the hall, oh, and one of those stepped Trofast* units; mine and DH's wardrobes; another Trofast in DD's built-in wardrobe, and not to forget (as if we could) DD's enormous pink bookcase. In the loft - child's table and chairs. There's also a futon which is under dispute, I think it's from Ikea but DH thinks Futon Shop.

Obviously, having stepped in an Ikea pre-child, we also own industrial quantities of tealights, and having been there post-child, we own those multicoloured beakers.

  • okay, I lied about only knowing the Billys by name
Botbot · 08/11/2008 22:18

I'd say about 95% We have 8 Billys

Lilyloo · 08/11/2008 22:19

Think mine is all Lekhsvik !

Botbot · 08/11/2008 22:20

The 5% is our Habitat sofa (which is much worse quality than anything I've ever got from Ikea - I've never been happy with it but it took 9 weeks to arrive and I was sick of sitting on the floor, so I put up with it), and our bed. Oh, and dd's cot. But that is it.

[cheapskate emoticon]

Dragonbutter · 08/11/2008 22:21

i like leksvik.
good choice

janeite · 08/11/2008 22:21

WE have two sofas and a chair from Next; most of the other stuff is just a mish mash of things and needs replacing with decent stuff as soon as I'm rich!

Lilyloo · 08/11/2008 22:25

Thanks DB it has stood up to the test of 3 dc so can't complain !

Portofino · 08/11/2008 22:25

About 90% - Lilyloo we're big on leksvik too!

We moved from a small terraced 2 up 2 down in UK with loads of built in cupboards. To a huge (rented)apartement in Brussels (with no cupboards). In UK we literally had a 3 piece suite, a couple of beds, a wardrobe, a coffee table and some drawers.

The first weekend in Belgium we went to Ikea and had a lorry load delivered. Luckily we got a bit of cash to do this as part of the relocation - 1000 euros or so. You can get a fecking lot of Ikea furniture for 1000 euros. As time has gone on, we just bought extra bits that match the bits we already had.

FourArms · 08/11/2008 22:26

I've no idea of the %, but our dining table and 8 chairs, computer cupboard (which I love!), and 2 kids chairs are from IKEA. Have a few kitchen bits too. Also DS2's wooden highchair, a couple of small chests of drawers and a small bookcase. Oooh, thought of more - 2 of the Billy? bookcases in our room, a bedding chest, a chest of drawers in DH's wardrobe.... think that's it

We've had more at earlier stages in our marriage, but they've died due to 6 moves in 5 years! Love it, and if we lived closer (were 1 mile away at one time!), we'd certainly have more of their stuff. We're currently about 3 hours from the closest store.

Other furniture - some rented from the Navy (we decided that it was better to pay a bit every year and have top quality furniture rather than constantly falling apart stuff), some inherited from parents, some solid stuff from Ebay and a v.expensive set of lounge furniture including sofas from Klaussner (who went bankrupt without filing the paperwork for our guarantee )

It sounds like a lot of IKEA stuff, but it's not the typical bits, and apart from the bookcases, I wouldn't say that any of it was obviously IKEA furniture. Wish we were a shrine to that sort of ordered tidy living though!

misdee · 08/11/2008 22:27

i need some billys for baby's room i think. we ahve this weird raised box thing in the corner of the room which is over the stairs, i am turning it into a book corner for the kids. two billys, a safety rail on one side and a small ladder to get up there. then chuck some cushions in.

are they good for all the funny sized childrens books?

ShowOfHands · 08/11/2008 22:27

None. Not a thing. We have never bought furniture even. FIL made our bed, armchairs were donated from friends, sofa was being chucked out by another family, dining table and chairs were from dh's grandma etc.

You can space the shelves wherever you like on a Billy so would fit any size of book. I like the sound of your book corner.

NorkyButNice · 08/11/2008 22:39

Our 3 pieces are Leksvik - I love it!

AMamaForObama · 08/11/2008 22:41

a good 90% here
Not our new kitchen sadly due to odd measurements.
But everything else oh yes
Love it
Were there today buying lighting and stuff for said kitchen.
Always a pleasure

FairyMum · 08/11/2008 22:41

95%

misdee · 08/11/2008 22:44

i got a leksvik coffee table in excellant condition from ebay for £10. i love it!

mrsmaidamess · 08/11/2008 22:45

90% not including kitchen

The rest is either 2nd hand, or tarted up repainted bits of old.

The only thing I don't like about IKEA stuff are the flimsy back boards they put on some of their bigger bits of furniture, like wardrobes and dressers.

BibiThree · 08/11/2008 22:47

until very recently, about 90%. now it's about 75%, and will probably remain there, until the kids leave home!

stitch · 08/11/2008 22:48

very little. we have alwys found everything we have bought from them falls apart within the year.

cluelessnchaos · 08/11/2008 22:50

3 bookshelves and one bed, but I work in a furniture shop so it is much easier to pick it up at work.

lucykate · 08/11/2008 22:53

we have tons of ikea furniture, probably easier to list what is not ikea!
