What percentage of your furniture is from IKEA?

it's an obscene amount of stuff in our house

But then I'm generally pleased with the value for money, whereas I just ordered a quite expensive (IMO, £350) coffee table from the Cotswold Company and was quite disappointed.

1 single bed and mattress
2 tall chest of drawers
3 wide chest of drawers
4 round dining table and four chairs
5 bunk bed and mattresses
6 skinny chest of drawers
7 white chest of drawers
8 metal frame baskets and stand(not sure if this counts as furniture, but we used it to store the kdis clothes if for a long time.
9 desks for all the dc.
10 chairs to go with the desks
11 kiddy desk for ds including chair
12 double bed and mattress
13 bookshelf
14 another bookshelf

would you like to know what we still have?
4 but only two chairs left as others broken
9 the desks adn chairs, but the kids barely use them
14 the second lot of bookshelves.

disposable furniture or what?

FairyMum · 08/11/2008 22:55

Quite a large percentage of our food is also from IKEA

stitch · 08/11/2008 22:56

oo, i forgot some chairs. they fell apart so long ago, ancient history.

snowleopard · 08/11/2008 23:08

80-90%. It is good value - we have a £150, large round birch dining table which extends to even bigger, it's rock solid and nicely finished, looks great, highly functional, has lasted well. You wander round John Lewis and things like that can cost a grand.

Mainly just our beds are not from IKEA. Which is a pain as they don't fit IKEA bedding!

I know people who spend loads more on furniture and I just don't get it.

hecate · 08/11/2008 23:14

erm, my wardrobes and bedside table. I think that's it.

loads
I LOVE it, I'm scandinavian and everyone buys it there. None of the snobbery I have seen in the UK - look at swedish interior mags and it's Ikea everywhere, including your Elle Decos and the likes.
Just got the white Norden dining table and it's ace, so easy to wipe clean, even crayons and marker pens
I love their bed linen as well

BlackEyedDog · 08/11/2008 23:25

largish %.

all brilliant. bookcases, kitchen, a table.

the rest ALL ebay

suwoo · 08/11/2008 23:37

Most of the big stuff ie wardrobes and sofas. Also most of the little stuff too, cutlery, crockery etc. Have had our two sofas for over 7 years now and a are stil fine

MrsGokWan · 08/11/2008 23:57

Up until May this year none. But we moved from an old house to a new house and had to get rid of a lot of my old furniture as it didn't fit. Some comes from Ikea, some from Freecycle and some from Ebay.

Main Bedroom
Mattress (I), Wardrobesx3 (I),Big cube unit (f), curtains (I), nets (E), mosquito net (I) Lampshade (I), Curtain Rail (I)
Ensuite
Accesories (I)

Eldest Boys Room
Billy Bookcase (F)

Little Ones Room
High Sleeper (F), Toddler Bed and Bedding (F)

Landing, Stairs and Hall
Lightshadex3 (I), Net (E), Billy Bookcasesx3(I)

Living Room
Billy Bookcasesx2(I), Chair (F), Display Cabinet (I), Lampshadex2 (I), Net (E)Childrens Table and Chairs (I)

Dining Room
Dining Chairsx4 (F),Sofa (F), Billy Bookcasesx2 (F), Lampshadesx2 (I), Curtain Rail (I)

Kitchen
Various saucepans and cookery bits (I), Bin (I)

So quite a bit really but quite a lot from freecycle . There is also a lot more that I am looking out as well.

smurfgirl · 09/11/2008 00:08

Lots.
Bookshelves x 3 in living room.
Chest of drawes x 2 and wardrobes in our room
Sofa bed in spare room

Lots of bits and bobs as well.

So probably 50% of furniture.

The stuff in our room is fab. My parents bought it in Ikea Belgium and had it up there until we moved back to the UK so it was taken down for the move then my dad put them back together again. They had them in their house for a bit then got new wardrobes and so dismantled them and stored them in the garage. We bought our house and my dad brought them to us and DH put them together again! Still going strong.

The nearest Ikea is about 70+ miles away and I wouldn't buy their furniture anyway. However I do love the odds and ends that they sell.

ChasingSquirrels · 09/11/2008 09:11

none
furniture from various places
lounge - sofas from co-op 14 yrs ago, coffee table and bookcases from papua new guinea furniture shop when we lived there
dining - table from new heights, chairs from john lewis, sideboard from mark elliot
etc.
bedrooms - built in cupboards, various beds (argos, cot bed from kiddicare, old single that was mine as a child), chest of drawers from local furniture shop.
just a mix of stuff really

GrapefruitMoon · 09/11/2008 09:14

Used to be very high percentage when we we bought our first house...

Now is:

Clothes storage in ds's bedroom
wardrobe and chest of drawers in dd's
Bookcases in various rooms
shelving in cellar
kitchen - units and stools
small side tables dotted around everywhere
shelves in several rooms

Plus all the "odds and sodds"!

TrinityWino · 09/11/2008 09:14

I am surprised that anyone would spend £350 on a coffee table

ChasingSquirrels · 09/11/2008 09:14

none is a lie - we have the svala kids table & chairs, and the old kidswooden cooker, are they furniture?

sagacious · 09/11/2008 09:17

And some kids plastic plates and tumblers
