it's an obscene amount of stuff in our house

But then I'm generally pleased with the value for money, whereas I just ordered a quite expensive (IMO, £350) coffee table from the Cotswold Company and was quite disappointed.

Most of it. Was a lifesaver when we moved from our tiny one bed flat to a two bed house. Started collecting in '92. Ds1 gets all excited when he sees the sign and will tell whoever he's with there's chocolate cake in there! Love the fact that you go there for one or two key things and come out with a car full of bits.

lucykate · 09/11/2008 09:23

in our house, the ikea furniture blows the argos/mfi stuff out the water for quality and sturdiness. the mfi wardrobe goes pyramid shaped every time you (try!) and open the door!

GrapefruitMoon · 09/11/2008 09:35

Agree lucykate - especially if you buy stuff that is solid wood as opposed to laminated chipboard.

LazyLinePainterJane · 09/11/2008 09:46

I have found IKEA quality far far better than MFI, their drawers are awful! I don't imagine we shall keep most of the IKEA stuff forever, thought their kitchen equipment I find to be very good especially the saucepans, but it is a stop gap until the children cannot damage things any more.

We have quite a lot, TROFAST is king!

emkana · 09/11/2008 10:35

It is a coffee table which I haven't see like that cheaper anywhere else, large, with storage inside and 12 drawers, solid wood.

I thought we could have just one thing that wasn't Argos or Ikea...

About 1%, four dining chairs which are going as soon as we can afford to get some decent ones. IKEA make cheap crap which falls apart. False economy IMO

lalalonglegs · 09/11/2008 10:54

Our kitchen, dd1's bed, guest bed, a laundry basket and their fitted wardrobe system. Their fitted furniture is really good, just don't like most of their standalone stuff very much.

LIZS · 09/11/2008 11:13

got at least 15 pieces including sofa bed, 2 fold up guest beds, Billy bookcases/cupboards, computer table, Trofast toy storage

LIZS · 09/11/2008 11:14

not counting rugs (4) and lamps/ceiling lights !

nannyL · 09/11/2008 11:17

I have some plastic cups & bowls, a cheese grater and a spatular... and a few ikea irma fleeces

not sure how as i have been to ikea 3 or 4 times ever and always come out spendiing £50 - £100, but i dont have anything else in my house to show for it

cant wait for the new one to open near me in february... then an entire ikea kitchen will be added to the list + some lounge and dining furniture!

themoon666 · 09/11/2008 11:26

ruddynorah · 09/11/2008 11:28

our bed and bedroom furnitures, all hemnes from ikea.

dd's bed, bedroom furniture and playroom furniture all ikea.

dining table and chairs and rug all ikea.

that's it. sofas are from next.

CaptainKarvol · 09/11/2008 11:45

Not a thing. It's all habitat and hand-me-downs here. Ikea does my head in. I love the catalogues, but the shopping experience is like a day out in hell.

Lauriefairycake · 09/11/2008 11:49

I've had quite a few things over the years and I'm definitely in the minority in liking going there.

I'm only 25 minutes from the Wembley one so I go during the day for lunch and easy, quiet shopping. When I first went 15 years ago I was an idiot and went bank holidays and weekends - never again

fanjolina · 09/11/2008 11:51
  • 2 wardrobes
  • 4 book shelves
  • 2 arm chairs
  • all the nursery furniture
  • dining room table
  • dining room chairs
  • desk in study
  • 2 x shelving units
  • 4 x units in dining room
  • DD's table and chairs

wow - that's more than I realised! (as we have got rid of a LOT - prob the same amount again)

other furniture in the house comes from M&S, John Lewis or specialist furniture shops

Millarkie · 09/11/2008 11:52

We used to live 10 mins drive from an ikea so we have a houseful

Sofas (3, first one lasted so well we bought another 2 from Ikea when we moved house), bookshelves, dining table and chairs, coffee table, kids table/chairs, the kitchen isn't - but that is because it was here when we moved, we fitted an Ikea kitchen at out old house and I much prefered it. Kids bedroom furniture is a mix of Ikea and handmedowns. Our bedroom has ancient fitted wardrobe unit.
Beds are not Ikea (warren evans, they are lovely)

We went furniture shopping for au pair's room this summer and bought real furniture (ie. not ikea) for it and it was so exciting..but then the kids aren't allowed in her room and I trust her to look after it properly. Kids wreck everything else hence Ikea for now.

spicemonster · 09/11/2008 11:54

TV unit thing, 3 bookcases, a sofa bed and two stools. Think that's it. Yes it is. Less than I thought.

Oh yes - just remembered my absolutely huge double wardrobe - not sure how I could have forgotten it when it takes up an entire wall

CountessDracula · 09/11/2008 11:54

One chest of drawers and dd's bed

I loathe IKEA

themoon666 · 09/11/2008 12:31

irises · 09/11/2008 13:47

DS's bed. Would never have Ikea out on display anywhere other than his pit. It's horrid.

AMamaForObama · 09/11/2008 13:51

that's a lovely thing to say irises.
Buggered if I'm splashing outdosh on fancy furniture with 3 kids. It is easy to use, wears well and suits our needs fir now.
and we have an ikea bed and it's bloody superb.
Cheap and cheerful it might be but you make a judgement on all of us fans saying it in that way.
I am offended

elsiepiddock · 09/11/2008 13:52

We have: a few picture frames, thousands of tea lights, some kitchen utensils and a wooden desk chair in the study.

That's not too bad,phew!

irises · 09/11/2008 13:54

Sorry Mama. Didn't read the thread so didn't realise Ikea had so many fans!

Each to his own & all that

zippitippitoes · 09/11/2008 13:58
