Need to rent in Richmond, help please

DP has had it confirmed that the job he wants is his subject to references, so we need to find a house!

At least 3 bedrooms and a reasonable amount of living space as we have 2 DDs and DSD every other week, also 2 dogs.

Anyone want to help? We are currently in Taunton, so don't know anything about the area really, any advice or tips, reccomendations for agents etc gratefully received

Oh, budget is probably around £2000 pm if we push it

hard to believe i know but you're going to struggle to get a 3 bed house for £2k in richmond or kew

would you consider living just outside richmond? isleworth for example quite a bit cheaper

Ham is about a mile from Richmond mainline/tube station. Some of our neighbours cycle to the station and commute.

Agree with Tutter, you will get a lot more for your money if you look around Richmond.

Twickenham and Ham are both near the river.

What schools do you need. Primary or secondary?

DP will be working right in the middle of Richmond, not far from the station, but we have been really spoilt here in Taunton, 10 minute walk from home to office for him and he loves it. I'm sure a short commute either by car or train/tube will be fine!

Right, we need good primary schools for DDs, but according to the league tables they are all better than where we are, but local knowledge may be much more helpful

Having looked at rightmove, I can see you're right about budget, unbelieveable, we have a 4 bedroom, 4 reception, 3 bathroom house with a 80 foot garden in the nicest area here, and it's £1300, bit of a shock I have to say.

How negotiable are rents around the area?

Oh, the other thing we have to consider is that we have to ferry DDs and DSD back and forth to Bristol (as do respective exs) so we need to be careful about that too

primary schools around here are really excellent. Bushy Park great too, very very child friendly with lots to do.

Twickenham is an easy cycle ride (along the river towpath if you prefer to avoid the traffic) to Richmond. I can walk to Richmond in about 30-40 mins with the buggy, so probably cycle in 10.

The one you linked to is in East Sheen which is towards London.

Just to second that Twickenham or Teddington are really easy to Richmond - by train or bus -and they have very good primary schools. Renting is probably a little cheaper than Richmond and easy access to motorways.
I would suggest that you may be contact the Council/schools for vacancies before deciding where to rent as I know primary schools here are often over subscribed - it might be best to see which have places available and then look at where to rent

East Sheen is nice (I grew up there) - lots of young families, good high street, near to Richmond Park and also Sheen Common, plus close to the Thames at Mortlake. Five-minute bus ride into Richmond. Sheen Mount is an excellent primary, and I think East Sheen Primary is also pretty good, plus there are a couple of good church schools if you're that way inclined.

try and leave room in your budget to join here!

east sheen great but beware the south circular (at the end of the road) - can be a nightmare, esp at weekends

if it doesn't matter to you which side of richmond you're on, it kind of makes sense to head aay from central london - as a general rule the prices fall in that direction

so, yes, east sheen great, but twickenham prob a little bit cheaper

ok "cheaper" not the best way to describe it. "less expensive"

if you wanted more for your money then you could look further out to say Hampton. Still only a few stops on the train to Richmond or direct bus.
Lots of open space
Closer to the M4
very good primary schools
more villagey feel.

You'll probably get a bigger house & garden here if that's important to you

Kew is towards London, beautiful village, very expensive, right on the M4. You have to compromise on space though!
