DP has had it confirmed that the job he wants is his subject to references, so we need to find a house!

At least 3 bedrooms and a reasonable amount of living space as we have 2 DDs and DSD every other week, also 2 dogs.

Anyone want to help? We are currently in Taunton, so don't know anything about the area really, any advice or tips, reccomendations for agents etc gratefully received

Oh, budget is probably around £2000 pm if we push it

600 meters? How far are you, Kew?

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 14:49

about 599 metres I hope! (Googlemap says .6km)

Tutter · 08/07/2008 15:01

queens, kew?

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 15:09

nope otehr direction tastefully located next to the dump. Had an outstnading ofsted report in Dec and has become school of choice of us kew mummies too tight poor to pay private.

Tutter · 08/07/2008 15:10

ah, really?

was still awaiting its first inspection when we were there

Tutter · 08/07/2008 15:10

it'll be all those fuckers residents of kew riverside causing you problems with admission, then?

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 15:13

thats them Tutter wankers such a shame.

The shcool scored 1 on almost everything, and it even has wrap round care so no childcare costs for a few years until the tricky dilemma of secondary comes up...

AtheneNoctua · 08/07/2008 15:24

So, how does catchment work? Does that mean everyone within 600 meters gets in even if there are only 52 places available. Or does it mean the closest 52 applicants within the 600 meters get in. And if 64 apply then 12 have to bugger off else where.

We don't have a catchment area. It's just 70% go to churchgoers and 30 to to the closest to the school. So, it just depends on who your competition is that year.

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 15:46

catchmetn are is that closest to the back gate of the school (don;t ask me why back gate) up to the class number get in. LAst year that was anyone under 600metres, the year before it was about a kilometre. I think there is some preference for siblings etc but no other criteria - it is entirely proximity.

Queens is CofE and think I may have a wee problme convincing them I am a good christian girl!

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 15:47

to be fair Derrell which is most likely alternative isn't bad, so it wouldnt be a disaster but this one is nice and small and I think DS would be better suited.

AtheneNoctua · 08/07/2008 15:57

Maybe you could move the gate to your back garden one night?

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 15:58

now there's a thought...

AtheneNoctua · 08/07/2008 16:00

I'm totally hijacking now (as if talk of stealing the school gate is not hijacking on a property thread), but I haven't seen you for yonks. Want to meet up one night after work... sometime in the next month or so? Could come round for take away? Or we could actually go out if you have a babysitter.

policywonk · 08/07/2008 16:27

zippi - Kingston Grammar School has a sixth form, I think. Not sure about the others, there is Kingston College of Further Education, which is excellent (I did my A Levels there ).

zippitippitoes · 08/07/2008 16:31

oh i was just curious..wel i wasnt particularly but bf told me on sunday that kingston didnt have sixthforms in schools so it made the secondayr schools less good or attracted less good teachers

so i wondered if it was true

noit sure why we had this convo as he has no children at all tho he does live in teddington and my children are grown up and of course i live in warwickshire

almsot any other topic would have nmore relevance for both of us lol

AtheneNoctua · 08/07/2008 16:34

Isn't Kingston Grammar School private. I think a whole lot of opportunities open up when you jump over to private, dont they.

I probably don't know what I'm talking about. Haven't really gotten my head round this whole sixth form / A level thing. Confessions of a foreigner you know. We just went to High school and then uni.

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 16:36

Doesn;t Tiffin have a sixth form as well thats state?

Will look at dates Athene - no babysitting in July (used my "free" day already) but you're welcome to come over if you can deal with DS faffing around and not going to sleep until 8.30pm!

zippitippitoes · 08/07/2008 16:36

just demsonsrating that i engage in equally bizarre and irrelevant convos on and off line

actually no reason i am on this htread except that each time i go there i think i want to live here..thought that as i walked to teddington station yesterday

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 16:38

Kingston sixth form

Plenty in Kingston - Kingston grammar is independent but Tiffin is not as well as a few others

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 16:38

why were you walking to teddington station if you live in warwickshire?

policywonk · 08/07/2008 16:39

Coooome to the southwest suuuuuburrbs, ziippppiiiii

I don't think K Grammar is private - it's an eleven plus thing I think (something else that probably confuses foreigners!)

claricebeansmum · 08/07/2008 16:41

K Grammar is fee paying

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 16:42

no, Tiffin is selective - Kingston is feepaying

policywonk · 08/07/2008 16:43

Ah
