DP has had it confirmed that the job he wants is his subject to references, so we need to find a house!

At least 3 bedrooms and a reasonable amount of living space as we have 2 DDs and DSD every other week, also 2 dogs.

Anyone want to help? We are currently in Taunton, so don't know anything about the area really, any advice or tips, reccomendations for agents etc gratefully received

Oh, budget is probably around £2000 pm if we push it

OK I have just phoned the council, there are NO reception places at all. The very nice lady gave me a list of all the schools in the borough that have space for DD1, and said that that would push DD2 to the top of the waiting list, but wouldn't guarantee her a place in the school.

DD2 turns 5 on 13th September, she really desperately needs to start school, but the lady at the council said that we cannot apply for a place for either of them until we have an address (fair enough) and that if there isn't a place for DD2 I will have to send her to a different school until a place becomes available. This concerns me as our budget is worked out assuming I will be working at least PT, and 2 school runs? How would I even do that if I wasn't working???

Aaaaargh

Can you give us the names of the schools that have places for DD1? eg if one of them is East Sheen then that house in Grosvenor Gardens was bang opposite so would bump you up the list IYSWIM

bratnav · 08/07/2008 13:05

OK, list of schools who have room for DD1 as follows:

Hampton Wick in Teddington
Archdeacon in Twickenham
Stanley in Fulwell
Trafalgar in Twickenham
Orleans in Twickenham
Nelson in Whitton
Holy Trinity in Richmond
The Vineyard in Richmond
St Richard and St Andrews in Ham

Ant feedback on them would be great.

this is nice if we can squeeze the budget, any thoughts on the road?

Archdeacon lovely apparently.... and if you can get a place that is good, cos I have lots of friends/acquaintances who spent months adn months going to church every Sunday to be in with a fighting chance of getting their children in....
Looks cute too, nice atmosphere, on the Green.

Also Trafalgar is supposed to be another good one.

MrsTweedy · 08/07/2008 13:16

I don't have personal experience of any of those schools but here are the league table for the area. They are all pretty good, it's just secondary that's not so good.

bratnav · 08/07/2008 13:18

Someone suggested this earlier, and it is just along the road from Hampton Wick School....

OP posts:
bratnav · 08/07/2008 13:19

Also all the schools in the borough have much higher scores than the school they are currently at, so not a problem there

Hampton Wick good, but a comparably small school (I'm thinking of likelihood of reception place coming up). Also, be aware it's only infants - links to St John the Baptist at 7 - but that's next door.
St Winifreds road is absolutely fine, same area as Broom Road.

I think Stanley means Stanley Infants and Juniours also Teddington? Also very good and being that end of Teddington, you could live in Hampton Hill (as many children who go there do) which is also very nice and a bit cheaper than Teddington

Tutter · 08/07/2008 13:32

i have a friend with a ds at trafalgar - she is very happy with it

claricebeansmum · 08/07/2008 13:34

That is a good road

bratnav · 08/07/2008 13:40

cbm, did you mean Broom Road or the other one?

OP posts:
claricebeansmum · 08/07/2008 13:48

St Winifreds Road.

Broom Road a bit busier and depending on where it is along there may have issues with the large secondary school.

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 13:53

Holy Trinity in Richmond is one of the few primaries in Richmond/Kew area that has a poor reputation AFAIK

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 13:58

you might find there's a deal to be done on rental prices at the moment. Agree teddington is very nice.

AtheneNoctua · 08/07/2008 14:07

Do all those schools really have a year 2 opening? I'm amazed. People claw at the gates to get into some of those schools.

Archdeacon, Trafalgar, Orleans are all good. Not sure about others.

Amida, did you get a place at a school you wanted?

AtheneNoctua · 08/07/2008 14:11

I have sent you a CAT.

Oh, and yes save some money for Amida. We can have a mumsnet Amida meet up.

cardy · 08/07/2008 14:13

Sister lives in Twickenham and was looking at houses in St. Margarets, which looked lovely when we visited.

zippitippitoes · 08/07/2008 14:15

bushy park is nice

i would love to live there

it is all so tidy and pretty

claricebeansmum · 08/07/2008 14:16

I live two minutes from Bushy Park
and belong to Amida.

Not too much though as we are about to move!

AtheneNoctua · 08/07/2008 14:24

What about Strawberry Hill?

singersgirl · 08/07/2008 14:32

However, on the plus side for Holy Trinity, it's a linked school to Christ's which is the best secondary in this part of the borough (SW14 end). There are loads of places higher up the schools as people move out of town/move private, but KS1 is a nightmare.

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 14:33

catchment area for the school I hope to get DS into has shrunk to 600metres

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 14:36

Strawberry Hill is nice and only 10 mins to Richmond from Strawberry HIll station
