I'm trying to sort bathrooms too. We are reusing our existing family bathroom as it's not that old and the bath we have (duravit) is now over £3k. I paid about £3k for the whole lot.

But we are putting in 3 ensuites and a downstairs loo. Master will have a bath. Has anyone found anywhere that is good with designing bathrooms?

Do you mean placement or the style? Our architect designed the placement of the 'furniture/suites' so I'm just having to pick the items and tiles.
Littlemissweepy · 22/03/2022 14:53

We went to a bathroom design company that do design and installation. But their installation price was too expensive so we have taken the designs and product selections which we will tweak and have our builders source same or similar and install. Must admit I haven’t thought about efficiency of the toilet and flushing poo - good point and how on earth to you test that before you commit !? :D

nomoneytree · 22/03/2022 15:08

@BlueMooMoo, oh my architect has designed placement too..... I'm just a control freak who thought I might be able to do better on my own Wink. I've literally spent about 1000 hours on the diy kitchen planner (we are not even getting our kitchen from diy) trying out different placement ideas for the kitchen. I need something similar for bathrooms!!!

What do people think is the smallest amount of space needed for a 8 person dining table and chairs? A metre around the sides?

Littlemissweepy · 22/03/2022 20:25

I would say so BlueMooMoo yes

BlueMooMoo · 22/03/2022 21:01

Thank you @littlemiss

I think I'm going to have to go to IKEA and test out the small depth sofas - ektorp, parup, and klippan.
Has anyone had any of these? What are they like?

Sluj · 23/03/2022 07:47

@BlueMooMoo

Has anyone used Roper Rhodes before?
We have Roper Rhodes Geo in 2 of the bathrooms. I have to say It looks nice but I won't be having it in the other 2 bathrooms for these reasons -
  1. We live in a very hard water area and the limescale builds up quickly and stains. The original 20 year old toilets don't have the same problem.
  2. Geo is a very peculiar shape and you can only get toilet seats from Roper Rhodes. That reminds me to buy a couple of spares in case it gets discontinued 😒

Update for anyone interested: calypso is due to go up 9% in April confirmed.

Waiting for the quote from the bathroom suppliers in the next week. Am a bit nervous....

BlueMooMoo · 23/03/2022 12:14

Thanks @sluj. I decided against in the end and am going with a mix of burlington and calypso if it comes in on budget

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 23/03/2022 17:47

So where did we land on toilets people? Feel like we need a 'good loo for a poo' list Grin

Need to order two soon and am bewildered. Just want one that does the job, has as few nooks and crannies as possible and is relatively modern looking.

Littlemissweepy · 23/03/2022 21:31

Good loo for poo may deserve its own thread 😬

LivingInaBuildingSite · 23/03/2022 21:33

I forgot that I started a thread about good loos for poos a while back.

I haven’t followed up any tips but should get looking soon.

My only comment is no rectangular seats. We have one upstairs and for some reason it's uncomfortable, seems to have 'travel' and DD gets numbs legs when she forgets how long she has been watching Netflix in there illicitly.

We are so close to finished. I'm coming down with a horrible stress related sore throat for the third time this year, but almost there. No floors until the remortgage completes at the end of April, and we have closed the door on bare plaster in the bedroom / en suite for the same reason but otherwise almost there. Will post a pic when I've cleaned again.

Bloody B&Q customer service is abysmal. A couple of cracked doors and lots of computer says no later, I rang the store direct. A simple threat to turn up in store with the toddlers and A5 print outs of images of the cracks for however long it took / til I get arrested was enough to guarantee replacements by Monday! Who knew 😂

This is so helpful!

I'm leaning towards a bog standard (no pun intended) loo that has a decent flush and no poo shelf Grin

LivingInaBuildingSite · 24/03/2022 16:43

Has felt busy on site today.

Couple of guys finished off the new fences (had to redo the side as wasn’t high enough). Neighbours x 2 happy.

One guy started on making other neighbour happy by rebuilding her little front wall (the DH knocked it down a while ago and they got someone to literally stick it back together but it looks crap). She was asking our guys about getting it done and I decide the cost of about £200 is a mere drip in the ocean of our costs. And they have been very tolerant for years!

Two others have laid floor insulation in the side extension and started on laying the UFH pipes.

Screed going down on Monday.

Still feels never ending. Anyone else feel like that? I can’t actually imagine a day when they aren’t here. Not sure we’ll ever say we’re ‘finished’ though!

Littlemissweepy · 24/03/2022 22:28

Good to live vicariously through the progress of others. Not so much never ending here but never starting.

Our April start is now July. Though we have some work happening pre extension/main contractor. Sash windows are in the middle of being replaced and the scaffolding is going up for the roof replacement and external stonework - if they turned up every day and worked a full day I am sure it would be up by now but day 4 and most of it is still lying in garden or pavement outside.

nomoneytree · 25/03/2022 09:55

We've started. The portaloo arrived this morning. I'm going to have to stop reading the news. I'm about to have a heart attack with all the talk of inflation, house price crash and recession.

BlueMooMoo · 25/03/2022 10:21

@livinginabuildingsite it already feels like years and it's only been a month. With the price rises we will also have no money for landscaping so will have to do a lot of that ourselves over the winter - we definitely won't feel 'done' even once the builders have gone.

@nomoney exciting! I totally avoid the news these days and stick to googling images of art deco bathrooms. Ignorance is bliss and all that!

Just be frustrating to have the start date shifted. Hope it doesn't get moved again.

Exciting times! Our portaloo is right outside our living room window Confused Still better than using our bathroom!

Walked around the back and had a cuppa in the 'kitchen' this morning. Feeling real! Can't believe this is going to be ours.

Looks amazing. Can I ask how many weeks it has taken to get to that stage? Thanks!
