That all sounds really good @Sewfrickinamazeballs do update with pictures!

We are at dpc stage so nice to see the space actually there to see. On Monday the builders are coming inside to take out a corner of our house and put the first steels in. We're 80% packed for moving out...

Ooh, your at the exciting part where huge changes are happening. It's amazing how quickly brickwork can be done!

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 06/05/2022 07:38

Kitchen, stairs and new bedroom pics!

Look at all that blue sky coming through the roof lights! That space looks huge in the first pic too. Coming on so well!

Our builders turned up at 12 and left at 4 today so not as fast as I'd like!

Had three guys here cracking on with concrete mixing and making the second set of patio steps. One of the cats jumped straight into it at the end 🙄😂 think they have imprinted every bit of cement!

Main change is that they’ve taken away all the big metal Heras fencing around the patio, just have lower level plastic fence type things. So much better.

sat out there with a beer earlier, so lovely!

NewHouseNewMe · 06/05/2022 20:36

Great photos @Sewfrickinamazeballs - you’re making so much progress.

Beer on patio - I can only dream @LivingInaBuildingSite !

BlueMooMoo · 07/05/2022 14:54

Fab photos @Sewfrickinamazeballs . Your bedroom looks like it's going to be utterly full of light!

What's that down on the kitchen? Is that the membrane before you fit UFH?

And well done on the budget 👏

BlueMooMoo · 07/05/2022 15:01

@JoanDarc I have a similar kitchen but smaller - 4.8x3.6 L with a 2.5x1.5 island. I went with the hob and sink on the same run. I know myself and it will infuriate me to see dirty plates on the island or leftover pans. My hob is in the middle between the fridge and the sink so that works well for me as it's rare I go direct between sink and fridge (I usually chop veg before I wash them). You have to work the kitchen for how it functions best for you

BlueMooMoo · 07/05/2022 15:06

@AwkwardPaws27 I don't know if this helps you at all but from my view you have 100% made the right decision to go ahead with the work. The worst parts have been done before the baby is born and whilst there will be some inconvenience during their newborn stage, you have definitely got the hideous bits out of the way.

BlueMooMoo · 07/05/2022 15:12

I've got to do a budget tally this weekend and see where we are at. Having to cut costs on our bathroom fittings. We've also had a lot of food spends what with going out during the day (cafe coffees and lunches which add up) and convenience/takeaway food.

Think the roofers have done a good job and whilst I'm not ecstatic about the tile colour it's done now and we move on to the next stage of the build. Guttering to be finished next week too. It's good to see things being created and jobs being done.

Thanks! It's the sheet that the liquid screed is laid on. No UFH here, just rads.

BlueMooMoo · 07/05/2022 16:11

@Sewfrickinamazeballs have you fully converted the loft? Or will you be having an area for storage still?

NewHouseNewMe · 07/05/2022 16:28

Still tiling here @BlueMooMoo so you win!

Thank you. I do think its the right choice, just hoping baby can stay put until we have walls!

Very impressed with the new opening created to move our UPVC sash window from the back to the flank wall. They took the brick arch out piece by piece & managed to move the whole quarry tile windowledge too. It's going to look like it was always there.

Your tiles look lovely. Is your house period? I'm glad our house isn't as it means things are generally cheaper but of course you lose on the aesthetic.

NewHouseNewMe · 07/05/2022 16:42

That is sensational @AwkwardPaws27

BlueMooMoo · 07/05/2022 16:43

Looks great @AwkwardPaws27
Bricklaying is a bit of an art when done right. Glad you managed to get a sensitive one.

NewHouseNewMe · 07/05/2022 16:43

1930s but more in the arts and crafts style than Art Deco. It makes matching styles more expensive sadly!

I'm so pleased with them. We are having an exposed brick wall in the kitchen on the inside of the new extension wall& I can't wait to see it now!
One of the reasons we chose this builder is that he complimented our yellow stocks Grin they are reusing as many as possible which is why the demolition stage is a bit longer than usual.

@Sewfrickinamazeballs have you fully converted the loft? Or will you be having an area for storage still?

This isn't the loft but an extension of the first floor. It's a low pitched roof as we clipped the 45 degree angle rule for planning permission and this was one way to mitigate it (but I think we would have gotten away with it)

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 07/05/2022 17:33

@AwkwardPaws27 that's some impressive brickwork!
