raspberry carpet: massive mistake? (Pic)

I need to carpet my landing and stairs and am wondering about a dark reddish pink?

It’s wallpapered in a lovely mint/sagey paper and we have cream waffle textured curtains

Photos below show the curtains/walls - would appreciate any input! I don’t want to end up with grey or brown if I can avoid it

I don’t want brown as we have a heavy old walnut wardrobe in the corner

Just wondering if this is a daft idea - I think pink can go very wrong! Either old lady or garish preteen colours

@WeIcomeToGilead, would you consider a deep ochre colour?

I sense a bit of a mid-century modern vibe, hard to tell though.

I have a raspberry pink carpet pulled out from the house. It was disgusting because no matter what you spill on it and how much you clean, it left a grotty white stain.

If you do go for raspberry pink, don't go for a plain carpet. My mum and dad had one and it showed up every single bit of crap that ever touched it and more besides. They changed it for a pale brown one.

Gosh ok no raspberry then!

I saw a purple Saxony carpet today, looked
Ok, polypropylene, mottled, twist....

Any opinions would be welcome as I feel that collectively you have helped me dodge a bad choice or two!

@Poorlykitten

I can’t believe someone suggested burgundy! Truly horrific colour. 😂 and way too dark. I would keep it soft and light with some kind of sisal.
Really? Personally I think this is gorgeous and way more interesting and much less dated than beige everyone is suggesting.

Raspberry.... you’ll be vacuuming it constantly! My nan used to have a plain, red carpet with dove grey walls. Looked lovely, but all the bits of sock fluff etc drove her mad!🤣

In our previous house, one of the bedrooms was painted a sort of raspberry pink. Admittedly it was to cover over brown (!) paint, & they'd obviously had a good go at it. However the overall effect was that the room was the colour of meat.
We were going to try to cover it, but we'd probably have needed at least 6 coats of ultra thick paint. And, it was a rental. So we left it.

My friend has a pink carpet with pale green walls
I think it looks really odd..

Looks good, I think. Hard to envisage it on a large scale but the mottled twist element is good if you think the colour works. From this photo it doesn’t seem overwhelming, more greyish ... which you weren’t keen on, though?

I loved striped carpets on stairs and landing. Would something like this work?

Anything dark will show bits like mad.

wildeverose · 04/06/2021 00:35

Dark grey or cream - absolutely not pink

LondonStone · 04/06/2021 16:28

Hi @WeIcomeToGilead I love your style just going from the photos you posted, would you mind me asking where your curtains are from? They’re gorgeous! Thank you x

I would go for a natural look carpet like attached and for heavy wear areas put an oriental rug over the top which will disguise any marks. Oriental rugs come in all sorts of designs, colours and prices but if they are hand made they are very hard wearing and look beautiful.

AJ Odudu has a bright orange carpet on her stairs (it's on her home renovation Instagram page) which looks amazing so I think pink could work.

@Summerfun54321

Red and green should never be seen.
But pink and green is one of the loveliest colour combinations. It’s just a matter of getting the right shade.
