raspberry carpet: massive mistake? (Pic)

I need to carpet my landing and stairs and am wondering about a dark reddish pink?

It’s wallpapered in a lovely mint/sagey paper and we have cream waffle textured curtains

Photos below show the curtains/walls - would appreciate any input! I don’t want to end up with grey or brown if I can avoid it

I don’t want brown as we have a heavy old walnut wardrobe in the corner

Just wondering if this is a daft idea - I think pink can go very wrong! Either old lady or garish preteen colours

I would go for cream, personally.

Do you mind telling me where your wallpaper is from?

gulliblestravels · 02/06/2021 23:00

A sage green would work. Not pink.

eddiemairswife · 02/06/2021 23:02

Do you get any sun on landing or stairs, because red or pink is prone to fading.

LivingLaVidaCovid · 02/06/2021 23:03

Nice wallpaper!!!

I'd prob go for a duck egg type colour carpet... but I am not mad imaginative.

I think raspberry could actually work in the right tone and with a rug to break up the colour OR if you are brave, have wooden floors and a big room go for a wide wooden border and raspberry carpet (it looks surprisingly great!!!)

TerribleCustomerCervix · 02/06/2021 23:03

Firstly, your wallpaper is lovely.

But no, I don’t think a pinky-red would look like it’s been carefully chosen to go with the rest of the decor, it would look like a bit of a mish-mash.

@Checkingout811

It’s from b&q - link below but the photos really don’t do it justice, it’s absolutely lovely

I’d go for a green like your wallpaper.

PurplePansy05 · 02/06/2021 23:05

I wouldn't do that. Cream tones would be better, or a darker neutral colour that would be more forgiving.

JaninaDuszejko · 02/06/2021 23:08

I think a burgundy would go better, something similar to the bathroom colour scheme here. Madaboutthehouse lady has a polka dot burgundy runner on her stairs that is gorgeous.

Cream is not very practical for stairs (or is it just my daughter who runs up the stairs with her football boots on) but also it would be a rather dull colour scheme, I think the OP is right that the lovely sage wallpaper needs a pinkish/reddish carpet to contrast.

WeIcomeToGilead · 02/06/2021 23:08

That’s a very good point about the fading, I never thought of that 😳

Yes..... it’s a very bright big landing... so maybe not a good idea

What about blue ? Dark green like
Maybe a bottle green?

LivingLaVidaCovid · 02/06/2021 23:09

Oh yes Moss or sage would be nice! I think my screen was showing a weird colour as it looked more blue before I adjusted my screen setting

Temp023 · 02/06/2021 23:10

My Mum and Dad had a raspberry carpet, for some reason it caused an optical illusion that made the floor look like it was about 2 foot higher than it was.

minniemoll · 02/06/2021 23:10

Any plain deep colour will show every speck of dirt/hair that lands on it....

minipie · 02/06/2021 23:11

For a normal room I would say hard no but for landing and stairs it could work. You’d want a sort of faded raspberry though rather than bright, and ideally a runner not full width carpet...

WeIcomeToGilead · 02/06/2021 23:12

Do you mean it was overpowering?

I’m picturing something like this

AlmostSummer21 · 02/06/2021 23:14

I can see why you said raspberry. I think if you get the right shade it would be lovely. Look to see what you can find in a 'not too expensive' carpet. Always get the best underlay!

I'm not too far from you 😊

redastherose · 02/06/2021 23:14

Something like this colour would go well provided your stairs and landing are bright enough to take it.

@minipie

That looks lovely! Where’s it from?

OP posts:
im2sad · 02/06/2021 23:26

I got a very pale pink carpet that is very subtle. I wouldn't go for raspberry personally.

WeIcomeToGilead · 02/06/2021 23:26

No,
@JaninaDuszejko
You are right - I have three boys and three dogs! So need something robust but dammit I like a well decorated house and I am a big fan of colour so really don’t want to end up with sludge coloured carpet!

If I’m being totally honest, a darker green is probably the most practical colour weeps

I think it’s Roger Oates, unfortunately £££££

minipie · 02/06/2021 23:40

offtheloom.co.uk/gallery/flatweave-stair-runners-london-bowloom-brampton-blush-pink/

This might be a little cheaper than Roger Oates,.. but not much. And it’s a runner so you’d need to paint all the side bits too.

bringbackfonzi · 02/06/2021 23:42

Cream carpet - so yawn. Pink would be lovely, if you choose the right pink. I think a paleish pink.
