raspberry carpet: massive mistake? (Pic)

I need to carpet my landing and stairs and am wondering about a dark reddish pink?

It’s wallpapered in a lovely mint/sagey paper and we have cream waffle textured curtains

Photos below show the curtains/walls - would appreciate any input! I don’t want to end up with grey or brown if I can avoid it

I don’t want brown as we have a heavy old walnut wardrobe in the corner

Just wondering if this is a daft idea - I think pink can go very wrong! Either old lady or garish preteen colours

Dark green will not be a forgiving colour with three dogs for sure...

Basecamporbust · 02/06/2021 23:47

Dark green, raspberry, burgundy or any plain dark colour will show every crumb. They are very Labour intensive and the hoover will be a huge part of your life if you want it to look good. My DPs had a deep raspberry colour carpet in our family home and my DM hated it with a passion.

YellowFish12 · 02/06/2021 23:51

I think you can't go wrong with neutral for a carpet. You have to live with carpet for a long time!

Soontobe60 · 02/06/2021 23:53

@WeIcomeToGilead

No, *@JaninaDuszejko* You are right - I have three boys and three dogs! So need something robust but dammit I like a well decorated house and I am a big fan of colour so really don’t want to end up with sludge coloured carpet!

If I’m being totally honest, a darker green is probably the most practical colour weeps

With 3 boys and a dog, you really do need a sludge coloured carpet or else it’ll look crap in about 6 months time! I have a greeny grey carpet in my sitting room that’s very neutral. It would look great with your beautiful wallpaper. Let the wallpaper be the star of the space, not the carpet. Any in your face coloured carpet will need to be really well looked after - no shoes in the house, no carrying drinks up and down stairs, vacuuming every day.
NoSquirrels · 02/06/2021 23:58

Dark green like
Maybe a bottle green?

OMG please don’t!

I’ve two cats and a dog (different hair shades) and 2 DC. The deep green carpet on the hall, stairs and landing was so fucking awful I just cannot...

Seriously, I lived with it for 5 years and we got rid this year for an exceptionally boring greige flecked job and it’s night and day in how it looks and how hoovering isn’t a doomed and fruitless task.

I love colour. Love it. Green is my favourite colour in fact. But that carpet (pretty new when we bought the house) was the actual worst.

PickAChew · 03/06/2021 00:00

You'll change your wallpaper before you'll change your carpet, so unless the raspberry is absolutely you, choose conservatively.

PickAChew · 03/06/2021 00:01

Our last house had bottle green stair carpet BTW. We couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

NoSquirrels · 03/06/2021 00:02

Awful green and boring greige...

Red and green should never be seen.

NoSquirrels · 03/06/2021 00:05

Photo also shows how terribly the bottle green carpet was fitted with joins in shit places.

Just go neutral and express yourself with other stuff. Flooring is a PITA to get fitted, you can change wall colour or curtains much more easily.

WeIcomeToGilead · 03/06/2021 00:14

I’m sitting here laughing at the unanimously horrified response to green 😂😂

Ok NO GREEN

Maybe yes I should just do neutrals

Are stripes still in? asking hopefully

My friend and my sister in law have both got rid of red carpets because they were forever hoovering them. They show every little bit. I imagine Raspberry would be the same.

Mathshelpme · 03/06/2021 00:44

With busy, but beautiful wallpaper, you need a neutral tone floor. Otherwise, your space will appear small and chaotic.

A neutral tone, even a light biscuit tone, will having a calming effect and look more sophisticated, especially with the natural wood. (The dark wood cupboard, I’d be inclined to paint in cream or grey/sage).

I too am a big fan of colour, but I add colour through the use of soft furnishings...cushions, seat covers, curtains and wall art. My living room has cream carpets, jasmine white walls and a funky colour suite,

With the issue of animals, going for a wooden floor (oak tones would go well with silvery green paper) would be sensible. If it has to be carpet, I advocate for no shoes in the house. My carpets have been down for two years and are cream. They are pristine as we are a no shoes household.

Specifically with regards to raspberry or bottle green carpets, they are indeed a nightmare when it comes to ‘bits’ and vacuuming. They are also damn ugly and incredibly dated in my opinion (which of course is subjective).

A natural sisal? The type that Crucial Trading do?

I was coming on to suggest this too! I think that would look lovely!
pussycatlickinglollyices · 03/06/2021 06:28

You could always go bold and have Tartan patterned carpet.
Tartan Carpet

itwa · 03/06/2021 06:44

Country Living do a collaboration which has got some nice choices.

I like this, which would give you a rose pink effect and could work well as a runner. Made by Axminster so will last forever.

It's this Tea Rose one

I would go for a flecked carpet. Perhaps a cream or pale green with flecks of pink.

colouringcrayons · 03/06/2021 06:48

I say go for it! If not too expensive no harm done.

Most houses are really boring tbh. If I see another grey room I will lapse into unconsciousness (house viewing currently).

reprehensibleme · 03/06/2021 06:53

Sage green, cream (and no shoes rule!) oatmeal, which would help hide the dirt, or a soft old rose pink.

Billandben444 · 03/06/2021 06:55

@itwa
I love that one and it would be practical as well. Nothing wrong with tartan, we have it downstairs and it never shows a mark and we love it but it wouldn't work on stairs.

RedRiverShore · 03/06/2021 06:59

You could as long as it isn't too expensive as it is a colour you would maybe tire of and want to change in a few years, one thing about the hall, stairs and landing is that it's not generally too much of a pita to change as it doesn't usually mean the disruption of moving loads of heavy furniture to somewhere else which I am dreading as we need to have our bedrooms recarpeted.

Dizzy1234 · 03/06/2021 07:04

Iv got cream carpet throughout the house including the stairs, I wouldn't recommend cream especially as you have DC, it's a nightmare, I'm constantly picking up "bits" it shows everything.
Visitors have to remove their shoes (used to have wood flooring) I'd rather live like a hermit than risk visitors ruining my carpets.
I wish I'd gone with something with a fleck in it, a flat colour shows every mark, bit of fluff going 🙄
