Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

Yes... exciting and scary. We were right at the point of moving tbh... but we love our neighbours and the area so much. I just hope it's the right thing to do as moving might have been cheaper

Fucktuates · 24/06/2019 14:55

Matt Noroof! Will age better. Sounds like a fantastic project!!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 24/06/2019 15:09

moving might have been cheaper
We thought about moving then worked out just what we could buy with the Stamp Duty!
And even if moving is cheaper, you either end up spending money on the new house to make it right or else put up with stuff that you wouldn't have chosen.

soakedat3 · 24/06/2019 19:56

I prefer matt as well. A matt slab would look awesome. :D

I'm so disappointed that we have no progress today. :( The rain made it a bit risky to continue work on the roof. Sigh. Fingers crossed it's dry for the rest of the week.

Fucktuates · 24/06/2019 19:58

Are you guys all keeping a spreadsheet of spends so far?

We’re waiting on our building warrant so not done any building work but have totted everything up that we’ve spent so far including the very small amount of work we’ve had done on the house since we moved in. Amazing how it all adds up and currently we have absolutely nothing to show for it. Just added a £3 wallpaper sample to my list of spends Grin

soakedat3 · 24/06/2019 20:03

Yup. Spreadsheet for spend is a must! Although I may not have put my tile samples on it.

I have found if I keep track of how much something I like costs then I can see when it has gone down in price too. Prices for appliances seem to fluctuate a lot!

Noroof · 24/06/2019 20:24

What do we think of this....

Noroof · 24/06/2019 20:26

We are keeping track...we have a really tight budget and need to keep the entire thing under 79k.

Fucktuates · 24/06/2019 20:45

I really really like that noroof but I’m a play it safe kinda gal so would go for a neutral colour even if that wasn’t where my heart lay.

Quite sad how much I enjoy a spreadsheet. Glad I’m not the only one!

soakedat3 · 24/06/2019 20:49

That's a nice door noroof. Would you go for that colour? Am sure there was another poster here who was looking for pastel coloured doors. I think slabs are pretty timeless when matt.

What kind of handles would you have?

Noroof · 24/06/2019 21:07

I like this kind.
I do like the colour but wonder whether a mussel or cashmere might be a safer option. We are not bold and stylish people... in fact I'd go so far as to say we are very dull Grin

Ooh yes @Noroof love that kitchen style!

Noroof · 24/06/2019 21:54

Excellent! Might have something right!
Anyone got any experience of blinds for huge velux windows? We are having 4 90cmx160cm ones and as two will be in bedrooms I think blackout is a must.

Cat882 · 25/06/2019 15:59

@avocuddl@soakedat3
Hey - the builders have said it will take 12-14 weeks - but I'm not counting my chickens! We're moving out in 3 weeks until its complete so will avoid all the messy internal works.
The kitchen is ordered - from Units Online (Mayflower kitchens). We looked at DIY kitchens and a few others but settled on units online as its only 40min away do we could go to the showroom. I have a few changes already and waiting for them to call back . I'll try and post a pic of the design. It is a burbridge true handleless kitchen. We went full circle from shaker to no handles. We liked inframe kitchens but couldn't justify the cost. I'm not 100% on it but its a happy compromise with the other half and it suits the shape of the kitchen (hopefully!)

Everyone's plans sound fab - great to hear all about them

WorrisomeHeart · 25/06/2019 16:58

Spamming this thread again but I had to share this photo of the loft window frames now that they’re in. I am SO pleased with them and the way they frame the view.

@Noroof I'm very impressed you are managing to extend into your roof for £80K. We wanted to go up on our bungalow but the council rejected it and our lowest quote was £180K and that exclude any kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, render etc. We were a bit gutted but settled for single story. I like your kitchen ideas :-)

Cat882 · 25/06/2019 17:37

@WorrisomeHeart Wow they look great. What a lovely view

Noroof · 25/06/2019 18:44

@cat it seemed dear to me as I've neighbours who did the roof 6 years ago paid 40k. Although we are doing kitchen as well. 180k is the cost of a house up here!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 25/06/2019 19:36

@WorrisomeHeart that's not spamming! I LOVE seeing photos of other people's progress.
You won't need any pictures on the walls of loft room, you've got 3 framed views instead

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 25/06/2019 19:38

@WorrisomeHeart is there a structural reason why the middle window is a smaller drop than the side ones or was it a design decision?
I think it looks great and much more interesting than 3 matching windows

avocuddl · 25/06/2019 19:55

@WorrisomeHeart it looks amazing! You must be so pleased! Will you have a bed facing the windows?

Spam away! I love seeing pictures!!

Valuationhelp · 25/06/2019 20:04

Love it Worry!!

Are you in Scotland Noroof?

WorrisomeHeart · 25/06/2019 20:15

Thanks all, I am just so pleased to see the plans coming to life.

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo solely down to design - I like the symmetry of it all. It’s based on a photo I found on Pinterest and used to guide the architect as to what we wanted.

@avocuddl the bed will be parallel to the windows, with the head on the right hand side. The original plan was to have the radiator under the middle window but I’ve changed my mind and we’re going with a tall vertical on one of the other walls instead.

Noroof · 25/06/2019 21:15

Yeah we are in Scotland

Stokey · 25/06/2019 21:41

Amazing windows @WorrisomeHeart, stunning view.
