Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

@worrisoneheart, that is a great set of windows! Really makes the most of your views. The fireworks will look amazing this year!

Are you having them openable? I have been persuaded to have a small hopper at the top of my big bay window on the grounds the it is a kitchen and might not always want to open the velux. It was never going to be a fab slim profile window but I'm hoping it'll still look good. Sadly dh agreed with new dad builder so 2 against one.

@cat882, I thought units online were a good alternative to diykitchens as they had a lot of styles. I was going to go there but where we are was £500 delivery... For 1 man! Like you I wanted shaker in frame and ended up handleless!

WorrisomeHeart · 26/06/2019 06:47

@soakedat3 the two tall ones aren’t openable but the middle one opens at the top and the sides - I didn’t want many openings to spoil the view but the loft will need air! Am still trying to decide on openable sky lights for the kitchen - my head says yes, my budget says ARE YOU MAD 😂😂

my head says yes, my budget says ARE YOU MAD 😂😂
That should be the title of the next thread...

soakedat3 · 26/06/2019 14:19

Maybe you could get just one openable sky light @WorrisomeHeart? Is the price difference big?

WorrisomeHeart · 26/06/2019 18:00

That’s a good idea, I’ll check

WorrisomeHeart · 26/06/2019 18:05

Yeah so the opening ones are double (or at least they are at the place the architect has recommended.). Any suggestions for flat roof light suppliers?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 26/06/2019 19:09

my head says yes, my budget says ARE YOU MAD 😂😂 at the idea of spending over £3000 on just 2 radiators.
I'm justifying it on the basis that it's still cheaper than underfloor heating Grin

TheFatberg · 26/06/2019 19:27

One of our plasterers managed to smash one of our lights the same day it was fitted. My partner has just found a drawing one of them has done on the instructions for the lights.

:D@TheFatberg At least they have a sense of humour and actually quite a good drawing hand! :D Hopefully they are replacing it and it's not them rubbing it in...

soakedat3 · 26/06/2019 19:48

@WorrisomeHeart, what about these velux ones? I don't know the sizes but it didn't look like it was double for opening ones! Maybe £300 or so more.

WorrisomeHeart · 26/06/2019 20:42

The problem is size - the flat roof veluxes don’t go as big as the architect specs. But I am determined to find a solution!!

I sent the loft window pic to the architect to show him progress and he came back effusive in his praise and pleasure that it was going well. I stopped myself from reminding him that it was my idea to have that configuration 😜

WorrisomeHeart · 26/06/2019 20:42

*self praise that should say!! 😂

MyNameIsJane · 26/06/2019 22:14

@WorrisomeHeart are you in the southeast? We had a flat roof light and can pass on the details of our fitter who could give you a quote.

This is the difference 2 months makes!

By the way, that’s a panoramic shot so the wall is straight, not curved.

WorrisomeHeart · 26/06/2019 22:16

Ooh yes please @mynameisJane. We’re in London

soakedat3 · 26/06/2019 22:21

Oh that's a shame @WorrisomeHeart. What size are you having?

Your architect will be using that window configuration in future jobs :D

MyNameIsJane · 26/06/2019 22:21

I have sent through PM @worrisomeheart

WorrisomeHeart · 27/06/2019 06:53

Thanks MyNameIs!

@soakedat3 they are 2mx1m so massive. And yes really I should pay commission to the Pinterest pic I found it on 😂

soakedat3 · 27/06/2019 11:24

That is mahoosive Worrisome! But the light will be wonderful.

I'm currently finding myself irked that builders work so oddly . It's a mini heatwave so when do new dad builders work on the roof? In the afternoon!
payment in stages

Noroof · 27/06/2019 11:57

I'm ordering my kitchen tomorrow. I'm having a wobble.
The matt green sample arrived...also ordered a gloss sample and a shaker wood type. I ran my keys down them all... the matt didn't show a scratch. It's a weird textured surface. The others were damaged quite clearly. We have small kids and I don't want to be spending my time worrying about damage. But I'm now wondering whether the matt is too dull. Argh

Noroof · 27/06/2019 11:59

This is the matt.... is the texture weird? I don't know if it's putting me off as it feels similar to the cubicles in my work toilet.

Hmmm Noroof, it's not good if you are having doubts now about the door. Is it a matt vinyl wrap? Maybe a matt painted would be a nicer feel?

That's great progress @MyNameIsJane. You're nearly there!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 27/06/2019 17:45

@Noroof Where's your door from?
I saw something similar at Second Nature that they called supermatt and it had the same sort of texture you describe

Noroof · 27/06/2019 18:25

Got it from Betterkitchens. I wanted DIY kitchens but the reviews are bad at the moment

TheFatberg · 27/06/2019 18:32

DIY are about to get a bad review from me. Yet another reason why our delivery is late but we're having to chase them to find out as they're not telling us anything. Will it arrive next week? Who knows?
