Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

Have you got a picture of your handles or preferably in a finished kitchen?

chopc · 31/07/2019 17:43

@WorrisomeHeart why did I think you were going to go for a blue kitchen? 🤔. Looks lovely and similar to what I will get

chopc · 31/07/2019 17:44

Could I also asked what will go in your corner cupboard ?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 31/07/2019 17:49

@WorrisomeHeart and I have near identical layouts.
(Apart from the fact that's hers actually EXISTS and mine is still only a drawing...)

WorrisomeHeart · 31/07/2019 17:53

We were going with a blue kitchen, back in the heady days of expecting to be able to get a bespoke painted DIY Kitchen 😂. And I was very restrained in not punching DH this morning when he wandered in, looked at the kitchen and said ‘wasn’t it supposed to be blue?!’

The corner cupboard will be resigned for All the Things That Are Not Needed. It’s the one part of the kitchen that is a major compromise - and I’ve only got one like that so that I could fit the massive fridge (which we definitely have room for!) and the 1000 larder cupboard.

WorrisomeHeart · 31/07/2019 18:02

Ok so this is the handle we are going for, and it comes in two sizes.

This is the placement for two (not the same handles but the overall idea).

WorrisomeHeart · 31/07/2019 18:03

And this is for the single placement.

The things I am wrangling with:

2 handles will be stronger when opening 900 drawers with heavy stuff in them. I think I also prefer the look of them.

BUT we also have some 600w drawers near 900w ones which would need to have 1 handle only. So is that going to look weird, in which case maybe I’m better going for 1 handle on all drawers instead?

And then there is the size issue...

There is a slight chance I’m overthinking this.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 31/07/2019 18:21

What are the 2 sizes available?
(and no, you're not over thinking this... The handles I really wanted only came in three sizes which meant compromising so I went for a handle liked less but it comes in about 8 sizes!)

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 31/07/2019 18:23

@WorrisomeHeart can you repost your CAD of the kitchen so we can see the different drawers?

Noroof · 31/07/2019 18:24

Oh god that's the kind of decision I'd struggle with. I think one... only because I doubt that people actually pull two handles. I bet they'd still just pull one

MyNameIsJane · 31/07/2019 18:43

I think one handle for the same reason as NoRoof.

I am admiring your restraint at your DH’s reaction to the non-blue kitchen discovery. (And laughing too!)

BIL & plumber on site today. Plumber supposed to be fitting sinks and BIL cutting down our doors but they both got sucked into our ineptitude in our kitchen and have made the corner section and one wall fit beautifully. Now the island & the other wall of units to fit!

WorrisomeHeart · 31/07/2019 19:07

The CAD isn’t great because it doesn’t show the island drawers.
But basically the sink unit is in a 900w but then the induction hob is over a 600w and that’s the run where you’d notice the difference (or at least I would).

The brown ovals are crappy lights for the imagery only.

WorrisomeHeart · 31/07/2019 19:08

Oh that’s lovely @MyNameIsJane!!!

soakedat3 · 31/07/2019 19:25

I am so envious of your kitchens! The mess and dust is getting to me now. Also, new dad disappeared about 3 when all I can see is STUFF TO BE DONE.

I agree with Noroof and Jane. One handle would encourage people to pull properly and not from the side. I love the look of two but in my house I know one would eventually pull off. I think if it's a good handle and screwed in well then it should manage a full drawer.

I can't wait to see my 1000 larder of dreams!! Jane and Worrisome, please post a pic of your larders so we can have something to drool over while we wait on our own kitchens! :D

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 31/07/2019 19:34

I'd go for a single handle,, as wide as possible

WorrisomeHeart · 31/07/2019 20:00

@soakedat3 did I mention I will have a working oven and washing machine again tomorrow? 😜. Watch now, as hubris strikes and the whole things simultaneously floods and burns down 😂

Ok so 1 handle - the larger size for the bigger drawers and for the pantry doors, the smaller size for the smaller drawers and wall cupboards and 150mm pull outs/bin cupboards. Thanks folks.

Now where do we all stand on placement of handles on 4 pantry doors? I reckon as close to the joining corners of the doors as possible...

TheFatberg · 31/07/2019 20:10

@WorrisomeHeart your kitchen is a very similar colour and style to ours, which is a DIY one. It looks great.

I was so thrilled when we had a washing machine and oven again but it took so long. Still not used to having a dishwasher again.

Which range did you get @TheFatberg? I wonder if it’s the one we planned on before we switched to Wickes. I am really looking forward to the worktops (plain white) and the splashback (blue) to go in as well but they will take a couple of weeks I think.

chopc · 31/07/2019 21:24

@WorrisomeHeart your layout will be very similar to ours ........ so good to know that others also felt it's a good layout

avocuddl · 31/07/2019 21:52

Yay the kitchens look amazing!! Agree I'd go for a single handle!

TheFatberg · 31/07/2019 22:29

We went for Luca Gloss as I didn't want handles @WorrisomeHeart. Went for Dove Grey for the units and a Graphite island.

@WorrisomeHeart definitely 1 handle.
