Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

Similar here, we were expecting to need a soakaway but actually the ground drains were ok in the end. Or at least I think that is how the builder explained it...

Chilling out at home today as I have a horrendous throat bug. I couldn’t work out what felt different and then realised it was the fact that there was no building noise 😂😂😂

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 28/07/2019 15:36

That's what I think it will need but in that case he should have dug out a bit beyond the footings to access the existing soakaway pipe. Since he didn't, he might be planning on diverting the flow into the garage downpipe which I don't think can take the flow.
Thankfully the soakaway pipe is still exposed so I think he will need to delay the block work until I'm happy with the drainage

soakedat3 · 28/07/2019 16:27

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo, BBB will def sort it on Monday. In fact he has prob already mapped it out in his head. New Dad dug down to the rainwater pipe and joined a new one on that he will then join to new guttering. We need to still get some work done on the guttering as joining up to current pipes and working out what way they had it flowing.

What are people doing re:alarm systems? We will have an extra door to join on as well as having ripped off a previous door which was alarmed.

Our kitchen is getting delivered next Tues. I am hoping New Dad will catch up enough that he will "just" unpack and fit.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 28/07/2019 19:09

We've got alarm company coming next week to disable the three sensors that will get in the way. We most probably will not replace them as we are planning to switch to a wireless system at some point.

WorrisomeHeart · 29/07/2019 16:58

Yikes, not even thought about an alarm. We’ve not had one before but it’s probably worth looking into.

The red cedar has landed!

Beautiful Worrisome! Can't wait to see it when it's finished!

Today we had the final window, reused from old kitchen wall put in. So glad to see some kind of recycling to balance my eco guilt! And also props in.

Noroof · 29/07/2019 20:23

We have a window opening!

I must say I'm totally impressed with my builders... really clean workers. And they're really cracking on at a pace. Its peeing it down here and even without tiles on the roof we are fully watertight.

Oh that’s going to be a lovely big window @Noroof. What’s the view like out of it?

That’s such a great idea to be able to reuse the windows @soakedat3. None of ours were in any fit state to do that.

Tipping it down here today and the loft builder has broken our new en-suite light fitting the pocket door 🙄

chopc · 30/07/2019 17:35

@Noroof is this your loft?

Goforitgirl · 30/07/2019 17:37

How big is your loft room @Noroof? Well eventually have a loft style room in our extension and would be good to see one similar size

chopc · 30/07/2019 18:36

@Noroof Realised that your loft plan is almost identical to ours (have attached plan in previous post). Please keep posting pics!

Noroof · 30/07/2019 20:01

Hello @chop yes I think it's very similar.

Noroof · 30/07/2019 20:02

Rooms are living room with window 4.6m by 4.4m and the bedroom 4.6 by 4.2
Not sure on the shower room sizes.

soakedat3 · 30/07/2019 22:15

We have nearly finished the "slap out" now but are still having a reoccurring leak at the bottom of one of the velux windows. :( Silver lining is that at least it's not after everyone has finished and paid for!

TheFatberg · 30/07/2019 22:35

We're still waiting for some missing parts from DIY Kitchens. It's just for the utility room, but annoying that we've been waiting 3 weeks.

@TheFatberg - I’ve just received a whole box of stuff from DIYKitchens when all I wanted was some door plates and a missing hinge. So I think I have 823 spare plinth legs. 😃 ok, I’m exaggerating.

MyNameIsJane · 31/07/2019 06:58

Also, the joining plates are not suitable for a handleless door. They need to be longer so they fit either side of the handles. Confused So I’m off to Screwfix later.

MyNameIsJane · 31/07/2019 07:09

@soakedat3 if it hadn’t have been raining then you may not have even known about it until later. Who knew the rain would be helpful to our situations? I’m finding it much easier to work in the cooler weather.

A little update. We’ve been getting stuff done! We haven’t had anyone on site since Tuesday last week so it’s been just us two doing what we can. (The simple stuff 😂) We properly broke through into our old front room which had been blocked up. We’ve moved out 2 big cabinets into the utility and fitted the innards and doors. We’ve also moved the electricals we are going to reuse in the kitchen and the washing machine to the utility. We’re still scratching our heads about the kitchen configuration and how best to attach to walls!

Noroof · 31/07/2019 07:37

All my ceilings are having to come down.... this is my kitchen

Ceiling pulling is a mucky job! We still have to do one ourselves.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 31/07/2019 11:34

I'm so impressed at those of you who get stuck in, if we tried that we'd end up having to pay someone else to correct our bodging!

I stick to what my talents are - wafting about John Lewis looking at fabric.

soakedat3 · 31/07/2019 12:19

I know! Better to find out now than in Nov! Roofer has asked new dad to get some more tiles as he's planning on stripping back everything around the velux and seeing what's going on. New dad is currently working on making floors level through out.

On a positive note, we can now see how much light is getting to the back of the room and it's enough. Phew! I think of I've planned kitchen correctly the darker areas will be fridge and food storage. Sink and cooker and either in the new bit or right beside the new bit.

@noroof, is that so you can get extra height in the new upstairs? Is it strange to say upstairs now? Smile

soakedat3 · 31/07/2019 12:20

@MyNameIsJane, wow!

Noroof · 31/07/2019 13:39

I think its because when they removed the old roof the ceiling got really damaged and it was going to be harder to patch it up.

WorrisomeHeart · 31/07/2019 16:38

Kitchen!!! Ignore the wonky cupboard doors, they are being adjusted. Worktops being templated tomorrow. Now to decide on handle placement. We are going for bar handles but I can’t decide on how many for the 900w deep drawers - do we go for 2 on each drawer or one in the middle???
