Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

That’s the alcove - it will take one of the big decorative ones and then edged with the blue metro. It’s great because the decorative tiles are only £1.67 😂. I’ve bought 5 of them.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 13/07/2019 12:49

Ah, I think I had the scale wrong and thought that was a 4" tile

Rubyelsie77 · 13/07/2019 12:59

@WorrisomeHeart do you mind me asking where your tiles are from? They are really lovely.

WorrisomeHeart · 13/07/2019 15:01

They’re from here: www.claybrookstudio.co.uk/

They have absolutely gorgeous stuff.

WorrisomeHeart · 13/07/2019 15:02

Oh sorry the metro ones are from Tileflair, they’re these ones.

WorrisomeHeart · 13/07/2019 15:03

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo the big ones are 25x25cm. The alcove is about 30x50 I think - about big enough to fit a shampoo bottle and small enough to still fit in our teeny room 😂

WorrisomeHeart · 13/07/2019 15:04

@TheFatberg that’s a real shame about the alusplash - why do they think it will be hard to fit around the extractor?

soakedat3 · 13/07/2019 19:56

Oh no @TheFatberg! The alusplash looked so good too! I'm not sure I agree about it taking away from the quartz but I guess if you've splashed out on quartz you want that to make people go WOW. I read similar things about not tiling to the ceiling (apparently it detracts from the actual kitchen) but I am ignoring it and want tiles to the ceiling on the cooker wall.

Lots of great progress! I've started clearing out the utility and kitchen in the hopes that the fabled doors and windows will come on Tues and it'll be full steam ahead.

And I love that patterned tile @WorrisomeHeart. Claybrook are like tile porn! They show up on my instagram constantly.

TheFatberg · 13/07/2019 21:35

@WorrisomeHeart I'm not sure if it was to do with the size of the sheets - I only heard half of the conversation but I might ask when they're back on Monday.

@soakedat3 we had a good sort out of baby clothes etc today. Nice to feel productive. Although we don't have worktops yet, I might start moving things into the new kitchen tomorrow.

@WorrisomeHeart I’ve just got mosaic tiles fitted to go over my sink & in the alcove.

Also picked up a remnant for £48 for the en-suite floor.

That looks fantastic @MyNameIsJane! How long until it’s all done?

I spent most of yesterday packing up the kitchen. Today is the Big Move of kitchen stuff into the lounge which will also include my husband trying to dismantle a 12 year old Ikea sofa so that he can get it in the car to take to the tip 😂

MyNameIsJane · 15/07/2019 05:50

I hope the Big Move went well yesterday. I found it incredibly hard to motivate myself to get packed up.

I feel like we’re near the end now. We will move back home once we can wash our clothes and our bodies. I can cope without a kitchen (I think 😬)

Carpets and a fridge today!

WorrisomeHeart · 15/07/2019 08:09

Well we were working on it until 9pm last night (around kids dinner etc) but it’s all done now. Me and DS(4) are hiding in the lounge while two teams of builders (one in the kitchen, one in the loft) and a plasterer overrun the house. He has a school visit today but will be back at nursery tomorrow thank goodness.

WorrisomeHeart · 15/07/2019 14:49

Never been so glad to see the back of a kitchen 😂.

Crazy busy here. They have knocked through the kitchen as per previous post (it is our existing kitchen but will be the living room in the new plan).

Windows are all ordered and upvc coming this week and the aluminium heritage the week after. We go away for two weeks on Saturday, they are going to fit the small bathroom (my daughter's) while we are away so I need to choose tiles. They also want to first fix the main bathroom on Wednesday, which is good, but I need to choose wall lights and a sink unit so they know where to put the electric cables. I have no idea what I want for ours so it's really difficult - I wanted brass fittings but actually it's really hard to find bathroom suitable wall lights in anything other than chrome.

Child is going for marble wall and floor tiles with a feature wall of teal hexagons (or maybe metro tiles if we can find some the right colour). Although she might have vinyl floor but what she likes is Atrafloor so actually more expensive than the porcelain tiles!!

For us it's either blue and white or maybe a palm springs/ florida keys inspired bathroom in pale yellow and black (or even pale pink and black)

WBWIFE · 15/07/2019 23:00

Been stripping the doors today.. Waiting for plasterer to come and do the bathroom. Ordered wall tiles and kitchen is coming next week.

I'm getting a bit impatient and anxious now haha

Good work WBWIFE! Goodbye WorrisomeHeart’s kitchen.

TheFatberg · 16/07/2019 07:52

Kitchen progress. Worktop was measured yesterday and we'll get it next week. Only appliance we can use is the fridge freezer, so still no hob, dishwasher, sink or oven.

If anyone else will have a period without a kitchen, I'd recommend a budget for food during this time. We've been getting deliveroo and eating out a lot, as well as getting a lot of ready prepared things (cooked chickens) because we only have a microwave and not much space to prep anything.

Oh that looks gorgeous @TheFatberg, you must be so pleased!! What’s the quality like?

Mixmag · 16/07/2019 10:08

I'm loving all your extensions 😍 hope to be starting myself soon, just having architect drawings done...quick question please if anyone can help... Having a 6.7 x 4.5 extension and really want to crack on with kitchen planning but how do you know the exact space to plan to factoring in bricks, plaster etc?? Any advice appreciated x

PazRaz10 · 16/07/2019 10:47

@Mixmag I would work on the basis of external walls being approx 30cm wide (obviously depends on what you are having/doing!) - my calcs are based roughly on width of the external brick, cavity space, internal thermal block and plaster board.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 16/07/2019 12:53

@TheFatberg Looking good!
Did you change your mind about the pendant lights from Next that I wanted before Mr WheresDoes and Beardy Builder vetoed them?
I'm sooooo champing at the bit to get started.
Re food budget, every other meal I've made recently, I've doubled up so I have a portion for 2 in the freezer so be defrosted and microwaved (in the dining room!) during the build.
At the last count, I had a couple of weeks of dinners, plus hopefully can send Mr WheresDoes out to bbq steak or sausages at least once a week -even if it's raining. Everything will be served with microwave rice or bagged salad.

Mixmag · 16/07/2019 14:26

Thank you so much!

WorrisomeHeart · 16/07/2019 15:25

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo I wish I’d done more batch cooking in advance. We ended up getting takeaway last night which was the easiest option but neither my wallet nor my waistline can take it.

Builder confirmed that they’ll be done in the loft in about 2 weeks. The cement is being poured for the extension next week and the kitchen arrives on the 26th. I can’t believe how quick these guys work - the sliding doors are going to be ready almost a month after the rest of the build has finished at this rate!!!

soakedat3 · 16/07/2019 17:07

I'm so jealous of everyone's progress. We have no windows and doors still :( Sigh. Maybe tomorrow!!! I don't understand the hold up!!

Builders been keeping busy putting plasterboard up, guttering and cutting the grass lol!! They're also a bit anxious to get going and have chipped away a bit at the external brick work "to see how difficult it might be".

I have a living room full of appliances and kitchen stuff. OH has already dented the new fridge... DD told on him LOL!! Never mind. A magnet will cover it up anyway. :D

Gorgeous door @WBWIFE and I really like your pendants @TheFatberg. The dark island really looks swish!
