Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

LOVE the island and the pendants fatberg it looks great!!

Can't believe how quickly everyone's is going! Sorry you've been delayed Soaked and your new freezer is dented! Hopefully windows and doors arrive soon!

I'm trying to sort out home insurance at the mo! So annoying! Can I ask how much yours has cost?! Don't know what a reasonable quote is but tbh I'd take anything at this point!

TheFatberg · 16/07/2019 18:02

@WorrisomeHeart the fitter said the quality was better than Howdens and he'd just had a contract with a new build company to fit loads of Howdens kitchens. I really like it and can't wait til it's all done.

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo we bought the Bergen lights for above the dining room table and then the large lights for the living room. Currently the glass covers aren't on to avoid damages but I'll post a photo.

Thank you @soakedat3 I like having the island different from the units. Our worktop for the island will be on two levels and will be half quartz, half wood.

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo lights attached, without the glass bits.

Get yourself some Hue bulbs ordered for those fantastic pendants!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 16/07/2019 20:01

Another portion of chicken curry in the freezer this evening - it's getting pretty full.
I'm dithering about ordering my radiators - spending £3k on two rads seems madness....

Kitcat47 · 16/07/2019 21:34

Hi we are looking to extend Kitchen Dining room out by 3 meters across the full length of house 6 meters. We have had some plans drawn up. Has anyone had an extension around the same size? What was the cost. I sent the plan to a builder and he give me an estimate of £34000 plus Vat just for the shell.

soakedat3 · 16/07/2019 22:08

WhereDoes, post a link to these radiators so we can see please? Also, I know we aren't getting anywhere near as expensive ones so it'll be the closest I'll get to them! :D

@Kitcat47, ours is roughly that. 3.5 out across about 6 meters. That's a reasonable quote. It's the vat that's the kicker! You could try find someone that isn't vat registered.

@avocuddl, we paid an extra £80 for home insurance cover for our build. With Admiral.

Apparently OH has a plan to get dent out involving suckers and glue. Not sure I can bring myself to look... Hmm It's tiny kist now. Like a fingernail. I don't want it to be a crater afterwards!!

soakedat3 · 16/07/2019 22:14

@TheFatberg, your island worktop mix sounds like what I wanted to do... then I chickened out and played it safe as was worried with wooden kitchen units it would be hard to co ordinate another wood colour into the scheme. It sounds amazing and can't wait to see it!

Also, it interfered with the waterfall end I was wanted after seeing the really great ones one previous posts here :D

Goforitgirl · 16/07/2019 22:15

@Kitcat47 we’ve been quoted around 40k for shell of ours. It’s 33sqm double storey.

HerLadySheep · 16/07/2019 22:18

We're having a 3 x 6 extension, our builder has quoted £28k for the shell but we had one wildly over priced at £42k... I don't think he wanted the job. I guess it depends where in the country you are too.
We start building 29th July, I'm picking up some very helpful tips and will start batch cooking with a vengeance at the weekend!

WorrisomeHeart · 17/07/2019 08:27

We are paying £55k + VAT to second fix level. That includes kitchen installation but not the units, velux windows but not the sliding doors at the rear and no decoration. We are in London but that was about the average out of all the quotes we got. Our extension is about 4m x 6m. And our architect has Grand Design delusions 😂

We have loft plaster!! So nice to see it coming together.

Noroof · 17/07/2019 09:45

Oh cripes I haven't done anything re home insurance. Was I meant to??

Noroof · 17/07/2019 09:46

This is when my lack of expertise clearly shows.

Noroof · 17/07/2019 09:49

@Kitcat47 we found that builders wildly underestimated initially. We are doing a full roof replacement so somewhat different but we were initially told 40k by a builder. Architect reckoned on 50k. Got structural drawings and spec...and suddenly we are looking at 80k. I even had one ridiculous quote at 120k.
The Vat is also a killer although we are lucky with a non-Vat registered builder.
Basically I would be wary of rough quotes.

WorrisomeHeart · 17/07/2019 13:39

@Noroof you need to tell them when you are starting - sometimes they will charge a lot more depending on what is being done to the house. Ours was fine although we did discover that we had no contents insurance 🙄

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/07/2019 15:12

Yeah, I could get a cheap kitchen for what these babies are costing me.
Worth every bloody penny.
I have ordered them with the "tree" in brushed stainless steel

WorrisomeHeart · 17/07/2019 15:24

OMG @WhereDoesThisToiletGo that is just absolutely gorgeous. Can you share the link please? We’ve ordered ours already but I would love to be able to upgrade to something like this at some point.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/07/2019 15:57

I'll pm a link @WorrisomeHeart

soakedat3 · 17/07/2019 17:01

:O that really doesn't look like a radiator at all WhereDoes! Lovely! You'll smile every time you see them.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/07/2019 17:41

I'm considering them as Art!

MyNameIsJane · 17/07/2019 18:09

They’re beautiful radiators!

I popped home at lunch. My plumber was devastated that he had marked one of the new carpets with some dust. I can hardly see it. And it will be on DH’s side of the bed so I’m even less worried. Grin

Noroof · 17/07/2019 19:54

Wow those radiators are amazing!

avocuddl · 17/07/2019 20:22

Wow there's no way you'd think that's a radiator!

BarrenFieldofFucks · 17/07/2019 21:23

We got permission! Getting into nitty gritty now.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/07/2019 21:40

@BarrenField Yay! Permission!
