@soakedat3 I still have 5 empty cupboards!! Mainly as the tall larder cupboard houses all food! The top shelves on all of the wall units are also empty - which is good as I cant reach them anyway! The side of the island you can't see is 1000mm pan drawers and 500mm cupboards either side.
Our overhang is 300mm and is perfectly comfortable to sit at and wide enough to tuck our stools under. We actually couldn't have it wider or the corner would have been too close the the post which you can just about see in the left of my design.

soakedat3 · 16/05/2019 14:50

Thank you @PazRaz10. In that case the 1000 tall unit should do fine for us as then. Do you love that you have some empty? I would!! But then I would fill them LOL!

I've been decanting and tidying cupboards in readiness so getting a better idea of how much storage we will need now. Decanting is slightly addictive but I don't see myself doing it long term. I am too messy!

So glad to hear 300mm overhang is good. We have stools already from our last house which have been tucked away waiting for 6 years waiting for the extension. :o

Hoppahouse · 16/05/2019 16:15

We also have empty cupboards! 3 top ones and I forgot to mention we have totally unnecessary shallow cupboards on the seating side of the island too 🙈.
Our overhang is 300mm - it's just right and we were told that was the maximum we could go with the quartz overhang anyway!

We were going to have cupboards the seating side too, but the combination of gap to pillar and advise from the designer meant we took them out. He said we'd end up storing stuff in there you never use cause of the hassle of moving chairs/people and therefore to store it elsewhere!!

PazRaz10 · 16/05/2019 16:31

@soakedat3 Your 1000mm tall cupboard will be epic!

Hoppahouse · 16/05/2019 16:46

Ah, good advise! 😆
I've ended up putting cards, games and cookbooks in the cupboards so far. I'm glad we've got them tbh, but probably wouldn't have missed them if not!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 16/05/2019 18:04

@PazRaz10 Now that it's finished, does it look like the CAD rendering that you posted? Do you feel the CAD drawing gave you a true idea of what it would look like?

soakedat3 · 16/05/2019 19:59

Good question WhereDoesThisToiletGo - can you post a pic of the real kitchen @PazRaz10?

I've decided against putting storage on the seating side of the peninsular now. I was thinking vases and cook books but I think I'll put the books next to the cactus on the shelves (hahaha New Dad Builder!) and the vases in the top shelf of the tall unit.

Rhica · 16/05/2019 21:39

All these kitchens look fabulous. We are starting our extension next month so nice to see the end goals.

@pazraz10 can I ask what size your kitchen is please. Looks almost exactly like what we are planning except our hob is on the island. We have decided to out a window on the side wall too where your hi is but conflicted if it's needed or not. We are having 6m sliding doors so hopefully should be light enough without. So many decisions

WorrisomeHeart · 17/05/2019 07:30

Thanks for all the kitchen ideas. I am excited to see the DIYK showroom today to get more inspiration as well.

Had a frustrating day yesterday - looks like the SE is going to state we need 4 steels for the loft rather than the 2 that were planned (and budgeted!) for. I know it’s whats needed so we just have to suck it up, it’s just becoming much more complicated than I expected. Ah well, it’s all been going relatively smoothly so far I guess there had to be a hitch at some point! Oh and the builder hasn’t come back with a revised start date yet - if we have to delay at least we can save more for the fact that our house will soon be 80% steels 😂

Does anyone want me to take photos of anything particular at DIYK today or are there any questions I can ask for you guys?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/05/2019 08:07

@WorrisomeHeart
We had similar. It was obvious that we needed 2 horizontal and 1 vert steel supports but I assumed the existing internal wall would be adequate to support other end of steel but no....
Another vertical steel required.
It's not so much the additional price of the steel, its digging down to Australia to create its pad foundation that's the pain!

mum2015 · 17/05/2019 08:07

Ooh DIY kitchen trip!!!
If you see a linwood kitchen, please take a photo. Also 1000mm corner pantry from inside will be great to see .

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/05/2019 08:12

@WorrisomeHeart
Bins please! Looking for a integrated 3 bin system each bin less than 20 litres. Don't like /need bih bins

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/05/2019 08:13

Big bins!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/05/2019 08:15

@WorrisomeHeart
And proper pantries please!
(glad I noticed the autocorrect before I posted. Don't want photos of panties!)

WorrisomeHeart · 17/05/2019 08:38

wheredoes any specific type of pantry?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/05/2019 09:42

I don't know if they do those gorgeous fancy wood ones...

WorrisomeHeart · 17/05/2019 10:03

Right. Stand by for an avalanche of photos. I can confirm that the corner pantry is just as lush in real life. Actually I’m really impressed with all of it. HOWEVER!!! They are not doing their bespoke paint colours for about another 6 months while they get a new paint line in. Which sucks as we had a F&B colour chosen.

WorrisomeHeart · 17/05/2019 10:04

LOVE this sink unit.

Definitely a workable sink to cupboard height ratio

Hoppahouse · 17/05/2019 10:15

Ooh exciting photos!! Do you know which cupboards you will go with? We didn't get a DIY kitchen in the end as went with a recommended fitter and he organised it all - think ours is Burbridge.

We have the double bin set up in your photos and also a pull out pantry like the one you showed - both were very worth the extra money!

PazRaz10 · 17/05/2019 10:27

@Rhica The back wall is 5.5m. Our Sliding doors are only 3.3m and we have a skylight over the island and feel there is enough light. The living space to the laft of my kitchen plan is a litlle darker on cloudy days but not enough that it bothers us.
