What would you do to make my lounge more interesting? It just seems too blocky, I'm really hoping I can just add accessories rather than decorate .

If you like cushions and rugs, maybe switch out for ones with tassels?

Skala123 · 05/04/2018 01:00

Perhaps change the curtains for a nice blind? The material ones with folds (don't know their name) in a more neutral colour perhaps? I'd also say bigger cushions and more of them but in colours that are different to the rug and curtains

Plumsofwrath · 05/04/2018 01:05

Looking again, it was a good choice to go with a grey sofa because any colour accessory would go. You’ve really only got two colours going on, it’s too matchy-matchy. You’ve also got lots of straight lines and sharp angles (print on your curtains; right angles on sofa and rug and cushions and obvs walls and sill). You need softer shapes, different colours. Changing up accessories would def do the trick.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 05/04/2018 01:13

I agree with Skala the curtains need to go and perhaps a Roman blind in a neutral colour, your cushions could be bigger to make more of a statement, also on the wall behind I see you have one picture, how about lots of pictures in different size frames, gallery style, and a new patterned rug, you could go for this look

I think it’s a lighting issue. The shapes and colours are very ‘matchy’ to my eye, but weare really only getting one perspective - and that perspective seems badly lit to me

Bexter801 · 05/04/2018 01:31

@BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo is that your living room?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 05/04/2018 01:33

No not mine Bexter just one of the many images in my style file!

midsummabreak · 05/04/2018 01:33

Why change it, so long as the the cat is comfy

expatmatt78 · 05/04/2018 01:44

I like similar colours with the grey and purple but it's all too matching- walls carpet sofa curtains cushions etc!
Agree with changing curtains - we got white plantation shutters put in and love them.
In another room we have black and white geometric curtains - like this photo actually
Also like the look with the yellow with grey and purple tho haven't done it myself
Would change colours of your cushions and maybe get a bold stripe rug

Bexter801 · 05/04/2018 01:51

Ah, I'm loving your style Smile @BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo

Bexter801 · 05/04/2018 01:53

Yeah I would change curtains for maybe a Roman blind, add bigger cushions, brighter rug, different lamp and a treat for the cat Smile

Bluesheep8 · 05/04/2018 06:54

With that sofa you could do pretty much anything colour-wise. Whatever you chose, I'd advise lots of different textures and add some throws to soften the edges. Also candles. Although the car is the best accessory for ANY home!

Roystonv · 05/04/2018 07:00

Agree with all the above. The curtains are too much both design and the space they occupy a plain blind will give you more options to add colour to rug and cushions.

PasstheStarmix · 05/04/2018 07:03

I would get rid of the curtains and replace with Venetian blinds or a simple roller but it depends on the privacy element. I wouldn’t have curtains behind the sofa. I’d buy a new larger patterned rug and lots of new cushions in a variety of shapes to compliment the rug but not to matchy matchy.

PasstheStarmix · 05/04/2018 07:03

too *

ButteredScone · 05/04/2018 08:19

I think the curtains are fine - it is all just too matching mushroom/burgundy. Paint the walls white, put up some pictures, change the cushions (not burgundy) and stick a different colour lampshade on (or change the lamp).

Oddcat · 05/04/2018 19:32

Thanks for all the suggestions, I can't really have a blind , the rooms so dark already , i think a blind will block out what light we do have.

I agree it's all too matchy matchy. What other colour would you introduce ?

moofolk · 05/04/2018 19:57

Bright colours!

MessySurfaces · 05/04/2018 20:03

It looks to me that you have the things you have because they "go". You need to have things you really truly love! More cushions, maybe a lovely blanket, some stuff on the wall. If you love all of it, it will "go" as if by magic. The colours will be fine.

DBoo · 05/04/2018 20:06

I love matchy matchy I'd like that maybe some more and bugger cushions and a plant.

Knittedfairies · 05/04/2018 20:26

A new patterned rug, bigger cushions in different shapes and textures and definitely a plant.

sidesplittinglol · 05/04/2018 21:08

Maybe a standing lamp and some kind of indoor plant?

PasstheStarmix · 05/04/2018 21:13

I would go lemon to brighten the room
Up with you saying there not a lot of light.

PasstheStarmix · 05/04/2018 21:13

there’s *

PasstheStarmix · 05/04/2018 21:14

I would go light and airy and get rid of the dark Burgundy
