What would you do to make my lounge more interesting? It just seems too blocky, I'm really hoping I can just add accessories rather than decorate .

Something like this:

Tbh first of all I'd get rid of the rug and get a nice coffee table (without perfect right angles) .

RebelRogue · 05/04/2018 21:38

And then just have a nosey in the shops for things I love. Most people would probably shudder at my livingroom/style but I love everything in it.

Oddcat · 05/04/2018 23:13

I love the yellow ! This is lovely too

Have you asked the cat? She obviously thinks it is fab as it is! Grin

Heratnumber7 · 05/04/2018 23:32

Get rid of all some of the brown and replace with a lot of some more colourful furniture.

Oddcat · 06/04/2018 16:58

It's dark purple !

You need more symmetry. Another cat in the opposite corner of the sofa would work.

GreenTulips · 06/04/2018 17:04

My grandmother always has two sets of curtains and cushions - one gen colours for winter and one spring colours for summer - she changes the curtains rug and cushions

Love the bright yellow and purple combination - but do mix the size and color - so they match without matching -

No! These things work in threes - ask any interior designer

MimpiDreams · 06/04/2018 17:08

I think it needs some gold/sparkle. Maybe a few extra cushions.

And more cats.

Bobbybobbins · 06/04/2018 17:09

Love the yellow for brightening up!

swimster01 · 06/04/2018 17:18

I think the contrasting colours are too muted and agree it is too matchy. I would have a neutral blind (because these can be expensive to replace) and then 'lift' with cushions. I was thinking maybe a fuschia pink or lime/yellow. Don't buy all matching cushions though.

I would change the lamp too - go for something without colour but an interesting design.

Oddcat · 06/04/2018 18:29

Definitely not getting another cat - this one is possessed!

I like the idea of Spring/ winter colours but not sure I can be arsed to change them each year .

I'm on a bit of a tight budget , so I can afford to change the curtains and get some new cushions but the rug is going to stay, what curtains should I get ? Any links welcome !

Have a look at Matalan , Primark, Sainsbugs (I know they have some beautiful yellow bits at the moment) & Wilko and see if there's anything that you love:)

Happygolucky009 · 06/04/2018 21:36

Dunelm have a sale on currently

flamingnoravera · 06/04/2018 21:42

You need some light and some bright colours. An old rug with lots of colour maybe. The moment it's all too similar in tone and colour. Use a colour wheel to help.

MMcanny · 06/04/2018 21:43

Do you need the rug at all? Just with the curtains and zig zaggy cushions it’s a bit dark. Yes to getting some cute trinkety things for the walls, maybe bunting? And individual cushions with some sort of theme rather than a colour.

Popadoodledoo · 06/04/2018 22:12

Just seen the photo, because your lamp, rug, cushions and curtains are purple, I'd do a feature wall, or add some colour to the walls. The grey matches the sofa which is beautiful. But if add a wallpaper with purple in on 1 wall.

Oddcat · 06/04/2018 22:13

The colour wheel is genius ! I do need to be braver . I think because money had been tight , I've been too worried about getting it wrong so stuck to 2 colours ( and in doing so managed to get it wrong Grin )

What's the opinion on these curtains ?

Lighting will make far more difference than more cushions perhaps a floor standing lamp that illuminates the corner of the sofa?

Oddcat · 07/04/2018 00:33

Lighting is a good idea - it's a really dark room due to having a conservatory on the back of the house .

I love those curtains op :),much brighter, though would they clash with the sofa....could you maybe get some big, light coloured cushions

PasstheStarmix · 07/04/2018 14:55
