What would you do to make my lounge more interesting? It just seems too blocky, I'm really hoping I can just add accessories rather than decorate .

Those curtains with some new Yellow, grey and purple cushions it’ll look lovely

PasstheStarmix · 07/04/2018 14:59

Even some yellow and white ones

Stringofpearls · 07/04/2018 15:05

I must be boring too then because I think it really looks quite nice! Maybe could do with adding in some extra light via a floor lamp or cosy lanterns etc.

GinGeum · 07/04/2018 15:32

I don’t think it’s bad at all! I think I would get rid of the rug for now, until you can afford a bigger one. A rug should be big enough to fill the space and overlap under the sofa to make the room feel bigger, which is really good if you’ve got a dark room as well.

I think I would take the lamp off the window sill and put a floor lamp somewhere instead.

And just echoing what PP said about bringing some brighter cushions on the sofa and it will feel lots brighter!

Bluetoo1 · 07/04/2018 15:37

Go to the bedrooms and get any bright coloured clothes and drape them over the sofa one at a time and see if they add zing. Then take it with you to fabric or curtain shop to match colour.
Your sofa is not a clear colour, it could be beige, grey or mushroom. You need to put colours against it to see if they match before choosing something new.

Spottybotty14 · 07/04/2018 15:37

Curtains are fine. I agree more pictures. The rug and the chevron cushions are not right. Burgundy possibly a bit dated. Could you add in mustard or lime?

Tiny rugs annoy me. It’s also not a great colour or texture, I’d get rid.

Oddcat · 07/04/2018 16:41

I've ordered the curtains and will put the rug in my bedroom. Now need to find some cushions for the sofa.

I love the curtains you chose and wouldn’t mind them myself! Pleased you got fixed up. Hope you find some cushions that you like.

Oddcat · 07/04/2018 18:42

Thankyou , I so envy people that can put colours together !

PasstheStarmix · 08/04/2018 02:00

You can, you chose the curtains on your own and they are perfect. Yo just need to have confidence in your taste because I bet you can put colours together just as good if not better than the next person! I think most people get inspiration from the internet or things they’ve seen. Be brave Oddcat, you got this...Smile

GreenTulips · 08/04/2018 04:10

If you want so pull colours together find a cushion you like with lots of colours on and use it for a base for other items (they have expert designers who design cushions) so the heard work is done for you.

Look on Asda - they have large cushions on sale at the moment

Go on Diunelm mill for a few different shaped ones - also look at texture so you have one knitted one fluffily etc

Maybe find a thick chunky knotted throw for the back of the sofa

Find some interesting wall art - look at poster shops as they are bigger and brighter and find a nice frame for the wall

Lighting and lamp work great - think one for reading or sewing light one for lowlight

TheBeastInMsRooneysRoom · 08/04/2018 04:17

I’d get rid of the little lamp and go with a tall oversized one in the corner. I’d also take the pics off the windowsill. They look too little there against the glass. They could go on a piece of furniture elsewhere (of course you should have pics. Just not on windowsills).

comfortandjoy · 08/04/2018 05:38

agree with getting rid of curtains. Sofa nice and neutral . Do you need a rug when you have carpet ?
Pictures on window sills? I wouldn’t .
Cushions that don’t match would look good, that you actually like - don’t buy a set. Different sizes and textures .

clothcollector · 08/04/2018 10:19

its very lovely as it is - quite Next-y and matchy which is not my personal taste, but i'd compliment you if if visited your house . if you are really on a budget i'd just find a metallic planter and put a peace lily or some sort of other indoor whispy, delicate palm tree in to give it a bit more interest.

Personally though, if i had this room, id strip it of all the aubergine and add deep navy or a saffron yellow with loads of metallic accents like lamps and house plants. I would pick up some natural white coloured curtains from dumelm.

I think Sainsbury and Matalan have loads of homewares at the moment and you can pick up house plants for under a fiver at Tesco and Morrisons.

I think for £175 you could do it.

My home is not amazing but everyone says its lovely when they visit - you dont need expensive Conran, Kartell or West Elm, you need to use affordable and accessible products in an appealing way.

clothcollector · 08/04/2018 10:22

oh another thing- the cushions and rug are really nice but i'd get something more neutral for the curtains, that pattern is very bold with the cushions.

Oddcat · 08/04/2018 10:49

Wow Thankyou , so many good ideas !

I can see pic open...I love it,good choice

TerfsUp · 08/04/2018 17:18

I agree with PasstheStarmix. Yellow. I would get a yellow curtains, a large yellow and white rug (like the one in the photo BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo posted) and cushions of different sizes and textures.

A white throw over the arm of the sofa would be good, too.

Oddcat · 08/04/2018 17:24

I really like it , but my first reaction is that it won't go with the curtains !

Oddcat · 08/04/2018 17:25

Terfsup I've ordered these curtains

You also need more texture, perhaps a textured throw or two. Too much purple.

Bexter801 · 08/04/2018 17:38

No it definitely won't go with the curtains....she's,because I love how unique it is,bit you know you can take a pic of whatever you like and get it on a canvas,is only like £10-£20,depending on size
