Our fencing has started today, the short ones are new, the others are getting ripped out

Wow Bax, it all looks absolutely amazing. You must be so pleased to have it all done. Enjoy living in it! And do pop in on us from time to time to cheer us up with the idea that one day we will actually be living in our lovely bigger homes.

Not a lot going on here. Finally managed to persuade South West Water to take some money off my hands to investigate the sewer, so waiting for them to contact me to arrange a date to come out. Fingers crossed it's not too far away. We are in such limbo until we get a definitive answer. I do have the architect coming tonight though (in theory - he isn't the most reliable human being I've ever met) to talk through some minor changes to the design and get as much done as we can before hearing back about the sewer. SO BORING. Really want to start getting quotes, but the design is pretty meaningless until we have a sewer answer!

MrsBlondie · 11/05/2018 11:26

Whats the issue with the sewer Hopefully? We had to "build over" some pipes and had water company approve the builders way of doing it.
Was a nightmare at the time must admit.

Bax looks amazing!! You must have doubled the size of your house.

Baxdream · 11/05/2018 14:34

We've more than doubled 😂 it was the architect who said to push it right out and see what happened. It was granted without any problems

Blondie the potential issue is that we are terraced and want to build the extension across the full width of the back of the house, so are asking to either have no inspection hatch within our property boundary or to have one inside the house, neither of which are ideal from the water board's point of view, as I understand it. Neither of our neighbours have extended though, and our house is only 7m wide, so it's not a massive run with no access points. We don't currently have a manhole but we do have a small inspection hatch of some description.

@4yearsnosleep

midnight teal...does that come out like a navy ?
I want navy howdens fairford but DIY are coming in much better quote with bespoke painted units.
I just have not got the time or energy to start trying to find navy colour...googles teal and it looks like howdens navy

4yearsnosleep · 12/05/2018 18:05

It's a navy with teal tones to it, it changes in the light. Bottom right on the photo. Top left is Mylands blueprint which is a very true navy. If you want the names of any others, let me know

@4yearsnosleep
thanks
what is the splodge that is in the middle, looks like its been painted around corner as well and has the khaki green long strip to the right of it?

theredjellybean · 12/05/2018 18:41

the paler navy one ?

4yearsnosleep · 12/05/2018 18:50

3rd down on the left? It's Stiffkey Blue. 4th down on the left is Drawing Room Blue which is my favourite

bobkate · 12/05/2018 20:08

thered which DIY door are you looking at to compare with the Fairford. Is is the norton? 4years I love all those blues!!

4yearsnosleep · 12/05/2018 20:31

Ha Bob my husband is not impressed at the number of testers, but he's surprisingly fussy so most of them are down to him 🤣 We're having Norton

Oh Hopefully ugh - hope the water company are helpful.

Our kitchen starts going in today and the wallpaper in lounge coming off ready for plastering tomorrow.

We now have all our food etc in our bedroom. Washing up in the bath for 3 weeks and no oven for 3 weeks now. What fun....said no-one ever!

MrsBlondie · 14/05/2018 10:23

Good luck BrandNewHouse, exciting

MrsBlondie · 14/05/2018 10:23

Anyone know a nice paint colour - duck egg blue?

DustandRubble · 14/05/2018 10:51

When I left today we actually had bricks being laid! Could I have an extension by the end of the week?

MrsBlondie, take a look at Laura Ashley colours. We had a nice duck egg blue tester from them but I cannot remember the colour name.

Hopefully · 14/05/2018 12:07

Dust how exciting! Fingers crossed you come home to visible progress.

brandnewhouse OMG at 32 weeks, that's a loooonng time. Are you moving out?

Architect came over on Friday and finally committed to saying that he is hugely confident we will get the build over agreement, although there might be some boxes to tick regarding drainage layout and/or an internal access point. I can live with that kind of optimism.

We have made another change to the plans which makes the house safer (in terms of a fire escape route) but means cutting out a small portion of our open plan kitchen diner area for a hallway. I am contemplating knocking through from our current sitting room to the kitchen diner to open up the space more again and let more light in - the sitting room is on the south facing front of the house and gets fantastic light, but we really only use it in the evenings, which seems a waste. It will mean we don't have a separate sitting room, but we can get sliding doors to visually screen it off if we want to. DH has been surprisingly positive - he, like me, spends his day chasing the light around the house when he is home, and loves the idea of a bigger brighter space, even if it means we have to hide in our room to watch films once the DCs are teenagers and have noisy friends over.

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 14/05/2018 12:23

Can finally say day 1 of our double story extension. They arrived at 7:30 conservatory is almost gone! So far they seem very courteous and tidy.....watch this space! They reckon 10 week for the outside being finished hoping for a miracle and them sticking to time!

Threesocks · 14/05/2018 13:40

@Ilovechocolatetoomuch yay for day one. Same for us - we are doing a re-roof, re-render, demo of existing extension and build of new single storey wrap around extension.

Scaffolding is now up, top roof being started tomorrow along with electrician coming to disconnect all the bits from the part of the house to be demolished.

FiloPasty · 14/05/2018 13:49

Hey everyone I went quiet as we had a nightmare with party wall and took forever to sort a builder out, we are hopefully starting in a few weeks.
We need to sort out the build over agreement for the water, was this a nightmare, and who sorts out? Ie me, the architect, the builder or building control (we have a private company)

devilinme · 14/05/2018 16:22

Whole back of my house is now gone

Sorry for the late reply @amazinggrace16. Our lane isn't adopted but we've only got two neighbours at the moment and let them know. There has been a bit of damage to the tarmac (but it's 50 years old and was beginning to rut anyway) so we will repair what has been damaged.

We're just about finished digging the foundations - 15 grab trucks later! Temporary drains being set up till the concrete raft has been installed.

Whattodowithaminute · 14/05/2018 18:01

Wow devil what’s the width of your opening? Looks massive!

Great to see people getting started. We are still waiting for steels... I could cry...

DustandRubble · 14/05/2018 19:12

A big moment when the back comes off devil.

Our back is going back on. There is some wall there now. I was hoping for more than there is, but maybe it starts slowly. I shall see what happens tomorrow.

AmazingGrace16 · 14/05/2018 19:38

15 days to go...
Our neighbour is coming over tomorrow to discuss our plans and probably the party wall. I'm suddenly nervous!
