Our front door is in. Long story but it arrived damaged 😫 it's in and lovely but it's going to be replaced!
Our fencing has started today, the short ones are new, the others are getting ripped out

Do you mean a bat survey hopefully? We haven’t needed any survey of any sort and we are semi rural. In our previous house we needed a bat survey but never heard of a ‘wildlife’ survey. Do you have rare birds nesting, bats etc? What a pain especially as not obvious.

Hopefully · 08/06/2018 07:30

I think the wildlife survey is unique to our area - it incorporates the bat survey too I think. There is a horrifyingly ambiguous checklist to establish whether you need one. But all the animals of interest in the wildlife survey seem fairly unlikely to be living in my back garden (water vole, anyone?).

This is us! Scaffolding down now and they are well and truly in our house. Cutting through for the ensuite window this a.m. whole house was shaking lol.

@Ilovechocolatetoomuch wow! I can't believe you are still living in it while they are cutting through!! Do you have a separate bit of the house to retreat to?
We will be moving upstairs at the end of July, but the work will not affect upstairs (other than a replaster and paint of the hall stairs and landing towards the end!)

Threesocks · 08/06/2018 09:28

@Hopefully fingers crossed you can get an answer and get it sorted!

FiloPasty · 08/06/2018 12:36

Hi Guys, we finally started on Monday, goodness the start demolishing quickly!

My help question, I’ve just called the Insurance to organise our renewal and she’s had to escalate it, our works are over the time frame & cost (16 weeks & 80k ) what is going to happen, do you think they’ll refuse to insure it or whack up my premium?

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 08/06/2018 13:11

We have two bedroom upstairs and the lounge and a makeshift kitchen in the study downstairs. Apart from it being very, very loud sometimes it's really been o.k. it's good being on site as I can answer (and ask) questions straight away.
Knock through all done and steel is in so now the chippy and electrician are here getting it ready for the plasterer.

Kimlek · 08/06/2018 14:24

@filopastry they usually up the premiums. They won’t want to lose your business. It may be worth you looking around at a couple more policies though. If you’re moving out it’s often quite a bit higher but if living in nit so bad. I’m in the throes of asking my house insurance what the deal will be.

Threesocks · 08/06/2018 14:49

@FiloPasty our insurance refused to cover us and so I had to find an alternative that would cover us. However they ended up being the same cost as our old insurance so all worked out ok in the end.

Threesocks · 08/06/2018 14:51

@Ilovechocolatetoomuch sounds good. I am hoping ours won't be too bad either. Just keep telling myself it could be worse. At least we have upstairs to retreat to. We are going to create a makeshift kitchen upstairs and the builder has said he will keep a washing machine operational for me!!

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 08/06/2018 17:00

Three socks- honestly I am 38/39 weeks pregnant and have a 4 year old. We really haven't found it bad at all. The door covers are a God send from Amazon. In the day if we go out I just shut the door and zip it up and no dust has got in at all. We borrowed a little oven from somebody it's all been quite painless. The drilling into walls is crazy loud but we just went out those days. The most stressed I have been is trying to decide where to put plug sockets!

DustandRubble · 08/06/2018 17:48

Builders were everywhere in the house today. Lots of painting of architraves inside. And after a debate over what to do with the doors upstairs we decided to see if, as I suspected, the original doors were under there and what they looked like. Bit of work prising some nails out and look what we found!

That's exciting Bex! They'll look fab stripped 🙌🏼

4yearsnosleep · 08/06/2018 18:21

I mean Dust..... it's been a long week!

Threesocks · 08/06/2018 18:39

@Ilovechocolatetoomuch that's good to hear. I will definitely be getting some of the zip doors!

@DustandRubble fabulous doors, what a great find!

Roof all finished here!

AmazingGrace16 · 08/06/2018 19:05

Glad it's doable when pregnant! I'm 22 weeks and they will be finishing when I'm 39 weeks.
Not a huge amount to show at the moment. We are 2 weeks in and they seem to have slowed down!

Hello!

Please can I join? It’ll take me a while to get to grips with where everyone is at but I will trawl back a bit!

We’re 3 weeks in to a loft conversion, which will then be followed by knocking through the dining room/ kitchen and adding a ground floor extension. All ok so far apart from torrential rain for four days as soon as the roof came off 😒. The tarpaulin didn’t do a great job of keeping it out, but we’re replastering and painting all rooms luckily!

Looking forward to seeing everyone’s progress!

FiloPasty · 08/06/2018 20:13

Thanks for advice, I might need to look around for insurance, something else to add to the list

FiloPasty · 08/06/2018 20:14

We need a new thread!

DustandRubble · 08/06/2018 20:26

New thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/3272524-Home-Extension-Thread-2018-summer-edition

I better not still be here for the end of that one!
