Thought we should get the new thread ready!
Our front door is in. Long story but it arrived damaged 😫 it's in and lovely but it's going to be replaced!
Our fencing has started today, the short ones are new, the others are getting ripped out

amazing I found the Haynes manual for home extensions quite useful to give an idea of what needs doing when andbthe different types of construction practices (wish I had read that before committing our brick layer to doing the wall overhand in order that we avoided the neighbours garden...!)

Hi Bobkate

We've ordered ours, but it won't be installed for ages. I compared like for like with a Wickes design. Since then I've played around a lot with their kitchen planner, now I think I'm at the final design point. Once I'd compared like for like and seen sample doors, we made a trip up to see them. The showroom is great. I know some people on here sent them plans that they quoted. Wickes on sale worked out £2k more than DIY, plus they are flat pack and didn't have as many options as DIY. Search #diykitchens on insta for some good examples because someone their real life pics aren't the best x

bobkate · 08/05/2018 21:48

Thanks 4years - I am doing lots of DIY kitchen stalking on insta! What have you chosen in the end? Are you getting all the appliances/knobs/handles from them as well? We are ages away from needing to order really but the builder wants us to give him a rough idea soon.
Shit - that's one thing I don't think I've done...tell the insurance people. Eek. I remember calling them last June ( when I thought we were due to start ) but it all got pushed back. I should probably call them again!

We're going for Norton light grey units with an island in Dulux heritage midnight teal. We're getting the sink from there as I've not seen one like it anywhere else, but that's it. Hafele brushed copper handles that I've found for less than £1.80 each. myappliances.com has non branded CDA appliances so the downdraft extractor and wine fridge will be from there. I'm keeping an eye out for the ovens at the John Lewis outlet:)

DustandRubble · 09/05/2018 11:08

I love Midnight Teal, that will look gorgeous.

4yearsnosleep · 09/05/2018 12:17

Thanks Dust Smile Fingers crossed as we've been through so many tester pots to find a colour we both like

DustandRubble · 09/05/2018 12:18

I really wanted to use midnight teal but it wasn’t right for the space I had in mind. I might paint a door in it instead! Having decided to paint doors rather than oil I am going to go for some crazy colours where I can. The kitchen door is going to be yellow on the kitchen side.

4yearsnosleep · 09/05/2018 12:25

I bet that'll look fab 🙌🏼

bobkate · 09/05/2018 22:41

That will be fab 4years just googled midnight teal. It's a gorgeous colour. Great idea about using non branded for the fridge and extractor. And I had no idea that John Lewis had an outlet!
Dust love the idea of a yellow door!

Today is our last day of workmen 😱 it's a strange feeling after all this time. I'll add a final before and after photo later.
The days of coming home in the freezing cold to a freezing house with no back wall are long forgotten (and almost quite funny!) it's lovely that our house is all ready for the summer though 😍

Good luck to everyone starting their journey, I hope it's been helpful seeing my experiences. It is so hard going through this but it is totally worth every tear.

Yay Bax - that's fabulous news!!

We have had roof tiles delivered on the front lawn (we are replacing the main roof and re-rendering the whole house along with the extension). Scaffolding is going up tomorrow and the real chaos starts on Monday - eek!!

MrsBlondie · 10/05/2018 09:59

Aw Baxdream you lucky thing. Look forward to seeing before and after.
Lots of tears here, but we are also nearing the end.

MrsBlondie · 10/05/2018 10:00

Good luck Threesocks.

Baxdream · 10/05/2018 13:11

DustandRubble · 10/05/2018 15:27

Briliant Bax, enjoy summer in your fab new house and garden.

Fourmagpies · 10/05/2018 20:28

bax I'm so jealous, your garden looks amazing.

Our builder was supposed to do the last bits and collect all his stuff last Friday. He did some and was going to come back Tuesday but guess what, we haven't see him this week. It's so frustrating, I've been saying for months "we're very nearly finished"! I'm sick of his stuff being here, I could live with the couple of bits he's not done. We started just over a year ago...

bobkate · 10/05/2018 21:55

Oh Bax your garden is looking so lovely. Really happy for you that you are at the end of your extension time. Try to pop by every now and then to see if you can offer any glimmers of hope to us just starting out!!!
We have part of the back wall coming down tomorrow Grin

MrsBlondie · 11/05/2018 09:35

Any pics of the house before and after Bax? Enjoy

Baxdream · 11/05/2018 09:50

Thanks everyone! I'm off work today and it's strange the house being empty! Here's some before and after!
