Thought we should get the new thread ready!
Our front door is in. Long story but it arrived damaged 😫 it's in and lovely but it's going to be replaced!
Our fencing has started today, the short ones are new, the others are getting ripped out

Both sound amazing, we're going for completely different in each room. We're going for herringbone planks of vinyl tile, so in addition to cost, the effect would be lost. I'm using a local guy & looking at a mix & match tile pattern for the utility and hopefully a hexagon tile pattern in the loo. We'd used him previously and he has a great reputation locally, l did check with other companies but he was over £2k cheaper

ponzusoup · 02/04/2018 08:17

Newbie here. Midway through side return seriously delayed by the 2018 weather. Great builder so far but boy do we need some progress now.

Baxdream · 02/04/2018 08:35

Our kitchen/hallway was a similar size Jellybean. It was the reason we had to write off amtico/karndean.

We've started to paint our house, it's so exciting and I'm so pleased with our colour! Unfortunately the weather today means we can't continue today!

bax..i have taken your tips and advice and loads of samples arrived from wood and beyond..honestly can't see much difference in them and kardean .
really people do not get down a=on hands and knees to inspect your floor and then tut and say ' ooh not kardean then?'

many friends do end up on hands and knees in my kitchen but it is due to either my cocktails or they are floored by my amazing cooking ;)

and when i have my new extension and cooking they will be falling to my fake kardean/beyond wood floor in awe of my amazing design taste...( credits to baxdream for the blue kitchen inspiration)

4yearsnosleep · 02/04/2018 10:35

That made me lol @theredjellybean 🤣 our flooring guy has found a similar to Amtico flooring that'll save £500. I was more interested in wear layer than brand!

theredjellybean · 02/04/2018 12:51

wear layer ????
wear and tear maybe ? i think with the 500 pounds saved i would be buying some layers i could wear ( in my case cashmere ones as i have a penchent - ok addiction to cashmere layers)

4yearsnosleep · 02/04/2018 15:44

Ha, it sounds daft, but it does exist:) LVT has different thicknesses of wear layer (the coloured part) the thicker the wear layer the less likely it is to be damaged. Amtico Spacia has a wear layer of 0.55mm, the commercial flooring that our supplier has found has a 0.7mm wear layer which is the same as the much pricier Amtico Form. Because I want it laid in a herringbone, it needs a bevelled edge and I wanted a minimum wear layer of 0.5mm, but I'm not fussed on the brand as long as it fit those requirements.

Fourmagpies · 02/04/2018 17:11

We have moduleo impress in our main living area (approx 50 sq m) which I'm really happy with. We've chosen an Amtico for the hall but it's a much smaller area and we wanted a black and white tile design.

DustandRubble · 03/04/2018 12:21

Oh yay. Easter holidays with builders and small kids. Our stairs are being sanded so we had to flee as even with doors closed I could see the dust rising. I’m glad our builders do family friendly hours rather than 8 to 6.

Tika77 · 03/04/2018 13:14

I have seen Bax’s light on sale for about 200 recently. I’m sure it was in a newsletter, I might still be able to find it if anyone’s interested.

Baxdream · 03/04/2018 13:54

I got it for about £200 with lots of googling!!

With you Dust, kids here as well, they were bashing down some walls today, with kids in the house I really didn’t handle it well. I overslept this morning, woke up at 7.10 and the plasterers were here already.
I really wanted them to be finished before Easter holidays, now my new psychological deadline is next half term.

bobkate · 03/04/2018 22:30

Yay - after months and months ( in fact nearly a year ) of lurking on these threads I can finally join in legitimately. Building work has officially started, as of today! We are having a 5m x 6m extension on the ground floor with a kitchen wall knocked through as well. New bedroom added above with en suite, using the current teeny box room as a corridor/landing. Then either a full loft conversion or part conversion ( so it's structurally ready plus veluxes, staircase, etc ) dependent on how much budget is left!!!
We have never even refurbed a bathroom before so to say I am cacking it is a bit of an understatement.
We have moved our caravan from storage onto the drive so we have a refuge in there for when it gets hard to stay in the house and to have somewhere safe to keep the dogs locked away if we need to go out whilst the builders are here.
I am really interested to know what vinyl flooring you have found 4years. We will have about 60 sqm to do and just don't think we'll have to budget for amtico or karndean but I also would like a wide plank herringbone pattern. Given we have 1 elderly, sloppy drinking dog, 1 younger mud magnet dog and 2 kids I think that vinyl for us is the way to go for sure.
I am terrified of the vast amount of decisions that will need to be made in the weeks/months to come Confused

bobkate · 03/04/2018 22:31

One bonus is that I have packed the kids off to my parents until Thursday so we've had a couple of days to get stuff into storage, etc without having to worry about them as well.

DustandRubble · 04/04/2018 08:46

Very exciting that you are finally on the way bobkate. I hope everything goes smoothly.

I had a day of wishing it was all over and thinking it hadn’t been worth it yesterday. This morning I have been hanging out in the kids’ room though and it has settled me a bit. The room was awful before. Peeling wood chip wallpaper as we hadn’t decorated it since moving in.

Now it is all skimmed and painted beautifully. We still need new carpet and furniture. Which we are doing when the work is all finished. But even without that it is such a nice room to be in. And the light I found for it (see pic) makes me very happy.

Hello all. So I'm half way through my extension. Current dilemma is whether to vent the cooker via the extractor straight up the chimney or box it in along the walls and out above the back doors? Surveyor has planned for the former but Builder says we may get drop back down chimney in cold weather. Any advice? Thanks! And some beautiful kitchens on here ....

4yearsnosleep · 04/04/2018 09:44

@bobkate we're having Tarkett Inspiration 70 . A lady I follow on Instagram used Fusion LVT and it looks gorgeous, unfortunately our fitter doesn't fit products that he doesn't supply, otherwise we would've used this: lifestyleflooringuk.co.uk/fusion-lvt-almond-oak-1063

Good luck with the build!

Baxdream · 04/04/2018 12:47

We have the silicone man coming today and then the inside of our house is finished 😱

4years I reckon I've seen the same instagram page!!! Hers was fusion flooring in a herringbone pattern. I love it! Ceilings in the lounge have come down today. Plus various deliveries. Took a load of stuff into storage. Bax I am so envious that you are on the finishing line!! I'm hoping it will be a bit like labour. Not much fun whilst you're going through it but will be worth it in the long run and the memories of living in a tip for 5 months will be long forgotten!

xLeanne128 · 04/04/2018 14:37

We've just had plans drawn up and have a quote. Company has all parties needed (architect/builders/scaffolderd ect) we've been told to get planning permission/building regs as can take 8 weeks (don't know which one or both husband is dealing with it) BUT is it normal to feel worried and stressed by extension?? I'm worried about mess, cost, time... is this normal or am I been a nut job....

4yearsnosleep · 04/04/2018 14:45

Bobkate, very likely, it's stunning!

I think you'd be odd to not be nervous/worried, especially if you've followed these threads! Grin

bobkate · 04/04/2018 15:00

xLeanne we've been waiting to start from about June last year! And I have felt various levels of stress and worry in that time so I'm hoping it's normal!!

xLeanne128 · 04/04/2018 15:31

It's only me stopping it 🙈 husband is eager to start but I'm petrified I'm a worried anyway. We live in a 2 bedroom dorma. We're having a dorma put onto the back too so it'll be a 3 bed 3 bathroom when were done and will be worth good money (but we don't wana sell hence why improving to stay for life) I have alot of shit going on in life atm and am worried this is just going to add to it. We are trying for a baby so could do with it sorting before I get pregnant though.. I'd rather blow the money on adventures but then have to be sensible too....

Tika77 · 05/04/2018 07:43

Dust, I love that deep green wall.
We’re going to paint downstairs all white (washable because of muddy dog) and have colours in the bedrooms only. The kids have chosen orange and dark blue (that was originally teal but I managed to convince him that the deep blue is ok, it’s a loft room and I’m worried it’s get too dark). Our bedroom will probably be a darker version of heritage green.

DustandRubble · 05/04/2018 11:43

Thanks Tika. It’s Dulux Peppermint Beach 1. My 5 year old chose it, I was a bit worried as I thought it was going to be a bit too teal rather than green. But it is definitely green and the colour looks great in the room.
