Hello, I am in the process of looking for a forever home which will be a fixer upper and trying to put together some rough quotes for potential building work. I am obsessed with both the island and back glass wall in this house. Does anyone have any idea what either of these could cost assuming they are of premium materials? The dial does we would want large like that one with a marble top and potentially from and sides as well. I know this isn't an easy to quote but thought some of you more experienced peeps might know :):) we've been saving up 7 years for this so I am so excited I'm barely sleeping at night

I've been to that house and it is very high spec - have you got the issue of Living Etc where it was featured? That might have some details.

Maybe I didn't use the right term! I mean the glass sliding doors at the back which separate the kitchen from the outside :)

Isn't it amazing? The kitchen it the one place where we will spill the big bucks, everywhere else we will keep things nice but to a minimum. We have been scrimping for so long I am giddy at the thought of a splash :):)

Oh my goodness did you really?? How did you manage that? I know they do some workshops there but I'm afraid I would be hypnotised and make a mad dash around the house taking photos. Is the whole house as amazing as t looks online? I bet it is!

I think the back glass wall (not black ) is actually a huge sliding door. That big wall of sliding glass will be expensive as it requires a lot of structural work; lintels over the top of the doors to stop the wall collapsing, very large panels of glazing like that are expensive to buy and fit and you'd need to have very efficient glass to stop you freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer (again, adding to the £££). The fact that it looks so streamlined, with no clunky fixtures or changes in levels that mean stepping over the threshold from indoors/outdoors is another key factor that will add to the cost.

Marble is a top end worktop material and isn't that durable. It marks and stains quite easily. If you want a thick worktop and 'wrapped' island it will be thousands

have a look at iq glass I think they are the only ones who do the almost frameless panels that big. I would guess the glass somewhere between 40-60k and the island between 10 and 20k depending on materials and spec. You could get something very similar a lot cheaper but those are not cheap finishes!

Obviously it depends on the size of your island and how complicated you want all of the cut outs, edging and whatnot. the basic cost of the marble is likely to be around £300 - £400 per metre, depending on grade.

Ah you're so helpful! Yes I am already imaging it is going to be mega bucks but I think we have a pretty healthy budget in place (I hope!!) seeing the rest of the house you can tell the work is meticulously finished and probably of the best materials out there!

I have finally won the marble/vs quartz battle with my husband (or rather his mum haha). I am European and having Mable floors and kitchens even bathrooms is pretty common. I actually really like the etching and patina and imperfections that come with such a porous martial. My parents place has had marble in place for 20+ years and last time I was there my husband actually agreed it looks beautiful. I think my parents are super diligent about sealing it though! I figured £5000 for the marble alone for something that size but I'd love to hear from someone whose done something similar or who is in the trade. Really I'm just being anxious

Oh my goodness you are an angel, this will keep me up hours tonight again no doubt haha. Once the kids are sleeping and I've done my tidying it's my time to dreeeeam. We've been "roughing it" in a pokey 2 bedroom flat in an area we don't really like working towards our dream home for so long that now it all seems feasible and I'm like a kid in a candy shop. Last night I went to bed at 3 and woke up at 6:45 today for work... oops!

We have set aside £100-£150 for a 6m wide by 3 or 4m deep extension plus kitting it out. Sorry if it's rude to mention numbers but I figure we are all anonymous friends here :D we will be buying in Richmond, London so there is for sure a premium added for building work. We also considered getting a team of builders down from Yorkshire where my husband is originally from. His father is an electrician and routinely works with the same teams of builders down in projects in London so we would have to see if it's doable and if it would save us money after setting them up for accommodation. With appliances, we will have to buy everything new. All we have is a sink and a tap 🙈

Whole extension plus large sliding doors and high end kitchen around £200k. Sliding doors roughly £1k per metre for average. Our sliding doors which are 7m wide and very tall we're about £13000. This is just doors mind. Not work to make space. You need a big steel above those doors. High end kitchen £40.

We are SE London and did this last winter. So prices pretty recent.
