7+ exams 2024

Anyone else prepping for the 7+ this year? We are trying to work out how many schools to do exams for. Live in SW London and thinking about SPJS, KCS, WUS and Latymer. Seems like a lot for a 6yo but my understanding is it's best to do a few as their performance on the day May really vary at that age.
What resources are everyone using?

@Caps0218 I thought competition is more or less the same as less number of applicants but I could be wrong

I think that's right. At the same time, parents and kids (like us) are more prepared and experienced compared to 7 plus too...

To be honest, I need to get my head around how to start the 8+ preparations. It is more difficult as they expect you to be at a higher level ie year 3-4 of the curriculum.
my DS has been through a 7+ prep school so we were guided along with the process but for 8+ we will be on our own.
I will have decided this time round I’ll be using weekend tuition groups for 8+ as well as the usual EPP, bond books etc. Also considering stagecoach or something similar to help bring out the confidence incase that was something that needed brushing on.

We did 11+ papers and found they were ok... Curious what level is needed for the actual 11+ candidates!

SWlondonmum123 · 06/12/2023 22:04

Do you mean exam papers plus? I meant that when I said EPP - they are always much harder than the actual exams

wonder how many apply….7+ seems 350 for 50 places.
i assume 8+ is far less for 18?

No. I meant only CGP, bond etc. EPP is much harder than those.

SWlondonmum123 · 06/12/2023 22:07

I haven’t used CGP, we stuck to mainly bond books and exam paper plus. Not looking forward to another year of this…

Justanothermom333 · 06/12/2023 22:08

We used 11+ papers for his 7 plus, on English comprehension. EPP for his Maths.

sherry778 · 06/12/2023 22:16

@Caps0218 not sure... hopefully not too many Smile

moeyland · 06/12/2023 22:19

We were told by the registrar at SPJ open day that 340 registered for 8+. Although a decent portion might sit the exam, it is still a big number!

OMG!!! Lowered our expectations Shock

moeyland · 06/12/2023 22:26

I suspect not everyone who registered will actually sit the exam, but still looking at 200+ at least for SPJ 8+

Are you a 8 plus parent too? Good luck to us!!!

moeyland · 06/12/2023 22:29

Yes we are one of the 340 :-)

SWlondonmum123 · 06/12/2023 22:32

Wow I heard around 200 at 8+

SWlondonmum123 · 06/12/2023 22:33

Are you sitting the 8+ next month for SPJ or planning it for next years sitting?

Me and @moeyland are 8 plus parents who are waiting for January exams:)

SWlondonmum123 · 06/12/2023 22:42

Aahh all the best! I’m sure your boys will do well!
if you don’t mind me asking, did you have to do a lot of the preparation yourself as I’ve just registered for next year and wondering where to start! No schools prep for 8+ eek!

Yes we do 1 hour a day. We are in state school. We don't have support from school at all since the very beginning!

SWlondonmum123 · 06/12/2023 22:53

Sounds like you’re ok track :)
did you try for 7+ too?
