7+ exams 2024

Anyone else prepping for the 7+ this year? We are trying to work out how many schools to do exams for. Live in SW London and thinking about SPJS, KCS, WUS and Latymer. Seems like a lot for a 6yo but my understanding is it's best to do a few as their performance on the day May really vary at that age.
What resources are everyone using?

Caps0218 I am not 100% sure. Just a guess based on what my DD said. Do they usually have more than one session for the test?

Not sure, but I assume the 130 who have offers from those 3 schools wouldn’t sit….i think the schools with exams in January tend to have fewer candidates…..I’m sure if Latymer was in Novermber / December, you would see nearer 400.

Quick one: I was told by a parent that Latymer regularly sees approximately 300-400 applicants for 7+. In fact it has the largest applicant pool - also driven by the fact that it is co-ed.
Also remember that out of the 44, they will be looking roughly for a 50:50 split between boys and girls so its probably as difficult in terms of numbers as the other top 3 schools.

Parent of a SPJ boy here who started in 2022 in year 3. Just want to reassure people on the expected level of boys. When I read people doing 11+ paper for 7 or 8+. This was NOT at all what we did. EPP 7+ papers were very hard compared to actual exams.
most thing that makes the difference on my mind was being able to sit for the duration of the exams without loosing focus having to go the toilet etc - that is what happened to our son at KCS and this did not have time to do 2 of the 5 pages in maths.

We were in a prep school that did prep the boys a bit but does not give homework (apart from 10 spelling words a week). Outside we did some maths only : bonds book up to 7/8 and some 7+ epp papers. No English for us on top of school as we are foreigner and would not know how to teach English. Some bonds in NVR and vr though. Up to 8/9 in NVR because my son loved it and 7/8 in VR.
if I could do something different I would do some mock test prior to get this experience of sitting for so long.
Hope this is helpful

Congrats on all the offers so far. Good luck for those waiting and most of all congrats to your little boys who have worked so hard !
i certainly could not do half of the things my son could do at this age!

This is super helpful advice @Lolakath19 !! When did you start prepping your son using the Bond books and EPP? My son is in a preprep Year 1 and I am starting now, just bought all the Bond Books 6/7 to test the waters, will move him up to 7/8 and beyond if he is ready.

And realistically, do you think i can prep my son myself instead of hire a tutor?

Thank you!!

Hi All, any ideas of what to expect at Latymer interview? Thank you

london2314 · 17/01/2024 17:16

Quick question, is there anyone (or do you know anyone) who sat and moved from a school that they entered at 7+ to another school (e.g. Kings, WUS or SPJ) at 8+? Thank you

Yes, it's rare but it happens. I know a friend whose son entered King's at 7+, but they tried to do 8+ to move to WUS. Another friend entered SJP at 7+ and then prepared for 8+ to move to King's.

I have no idea and asked here but didn't get a response. From just searching the internet I didn't find anything specific to Latymer. If I put what they said on their email together with what I read on different prep sites, I think it will be a group activity to see how they interact with others (so listening to others and collaborating etc is important as well as actually participating actively). The other thing they will do is ask them questions to understand them more. For example, asking about their interests but then digging deeper on those. I think also there will be some questions to test their reasoning for example: would you rather fly or be invisible and then ask why.
This is just a guess I have no information.

Thanks, great to know! Were they successful at all?

Does anyone know if the waiting lists have moved yet for any schools?

Pokemomm · 19/01/2024 20:42

I imagine there will be some movement after the deadline.

How did everyone get on at Latymer? DS went this afternoon and said everyone there was very friendly. He said they had to make a bridge but couldn't remember much else!

ckcrunch · 20/01/2024 15:44

SlntDad · 26/01/2024 13:03

OMG, DS got an offer from CJS. Totally unbelievable because he said he's been silent during group activities...

elbelle19 · 26/01/2024 13:13

He must have smashed the exam, congrats!

Pokemomm · 26/01/2024 13:13

mamma77 · 26/01/2024 21:27

Does anyone know when is the deadline for accepting offers at UCS?
We are on the waiting list and hope it moves a bit next week.
Thank you.

Pokemomm · 29/01/2024 15:54

DS got an offer from Latymer today and we are over the moon. Did anyone else get an offer?

Fingers crossed that wait lists start to move for all those still waiting on definitive places. And if anyone needs a good tutor in SW London send me a message.
