Hi there,

Just feel it's been very quiet here this year on the 7+ exams and no thread has appeared wrt to those two schools.

Anyone out there also prepping?

@ItsRainingTacos79 were at wus tomorrow. I looked at the atom work but it doesn’t seem like questions for the 7+ so I didn’t make him do it . I say atom helps more with the 11+. We havnt Hearn from city either but fancy meeting for a coffee while they’re in the exam tomorrow and we can vent!?

ItsRainingTacos79 · 08/01/2023 12:36

@Mumofboys25 a good old vent sounds right up my street 🤪. I will have to loiter around in front of the building after dropping off DS in the hope we find each other as I have no access to private messaging on MN. Maybe we need code names 😅.

Is your DS sitting the morning or afternoon assessment? We are morning.

Mumofboys25 · 08/01/2023 12:58

@itsrainingtacos79
We’re the afternoon 😢
ps love tacos

Was anyone else part of the 9am group today, and if so we're there tech problems for everyone with the NVR? They've emailed to say "not to worry" and that "the issue will be taken into consideration when we review the results", but it isn't clear what that means. Rather disappointing, as NVR is our strongest subject!

ItsRainingTacos79 · 09/01/2023 13:17

Yes, we were in the group with the technical issues. 😞.

Not sure how they do the comparison across the board unless their policy is to pick the strongest candidate/s from each group 🤷🏽‍♀️

ItsRainingTacos79 · 09/01/2023 13:19

When DS told me I froze because I thought it was just his iPad that wasn't loading. He said the teacher said it ok and that he won't have to do it.

Have to say I felt some relief when I got the email afterwards.

@ItsRainingTacos79 yes we were in the 9am group too...sorry not sure what you mean by 'he wont have to do it'....does that mean they were not able to do the NVR portion at all?? thanks.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 09/01/2023 14:10

I will interrogate further when Ds comes back from school but he said the whole group didn't have to do it. 🤷🏽‍♀️

@ItsRainingTacos79 how strange - I wonder how they take it into account :/

also - how incredibly unfair - they should ask for a re-do for the NVR portion

bstrong0805 · 09/01/2023 15:31

Yes we were in the same group too. We got nothing from my son in terms of what happened so were surprised to see the email. Not sure how they will evaluate this !

Worriedmum142 · 09/01/2023 15:50

Do you have any feedback on the exam? My son sat it as well but I can’t get anything out of him.

Parent2023 · 09/01/2023 15:55

Ours said it was much easier than the couple of mocks he did on Atom (year 3).

ItsRainingTacos79 · 09/01/2023 17:10

DS is saying the whole group had trouble loading non verbal reasoning on the devices so no one did it.

I'm not sure how it works, but perhaps they look at top scores of each group to select children (I know they were grouped by age). In which case the children from our group will not be competing with children from another group who did do the non verbal reasoning. Who knows?!

And general feedback re: the assessment was that it was easier than yr3 level Atom Learning. Overall I think he was just glad that there was no writing involved 😂

And with that, I am retiring from my 6 month stint with 7+. So glad it's over finally 🎉

Worriedmum142 · 09/01/2023 17:23

I thought they were grouped by last names? At least this afternoon that’s how they split them.

In the afternoon issued was fixed?

Worriedmum142 · 09/01/2023 17:33

Yes, no issues I heard of. He would have mentioned.

Seems like issue has been resolved

ItsRainingTacos79 · 09/01/2023 18:01

The technical problems were just with one group in the morning. All other groups were fine and completed all four elements of the assessment.

bstrong0805 · 09/01/2023 18:10

They were grouped by age and within age then by name. My son said there were issues but then it started working so the teachers asked them to do as much as they could ! Well, let’s see, we will know soon.

NameChangeDays · 09/01/2023 19:21

@ItsRainingTacos79 @bstrong0805 gosh how unsettling for the poor boys in that group! So sorry to hear that.

many chance you could shed any light on the English portion of the assessment? For those of us considering 8+ for next year? Good luck to all the children who sat WUS this year

WoodlandWalks123 · 09/01/2023 20:42

@ItsRainingTacos79 good luck for Highgate tomorrow, we have a lot left and also assessments for my younger child’s entry as well, my 6 Yr old is fatigued, I’m exhausted, trying to keep my stress not visible to DS but probably failing, hoping all the hard work pays off! Best of luck everyone x
