3+4+5+7+ support thread mumteacher 2021

I know it’s a little later than usual but here it is! #letsdothis

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas

Hi to all those who sat Habs 4+ this week- when do you think we will find out the results for stage 1?

hopefulmum16 · 16/12/2022 06:22

They said by 22nd Dec

hopefulmum16 · 16/12/2022 06:22

Any tips from anyone on UCS round 1 in Jan?

WorkingmumoftW0 · 16/12/2022 09:43

@mumteacher2 can you please share the details of the book please? Many thanks

KimchiLaLa · 17/12/2022 10:28

Can those of you who sat habs 4+ share any details about it for those taking part in the future? (My dd is not doing it this year)

4pluscraziness · 17/12/2022 12:40

Sorry not sitting this one @hopefulmum16

hopefulmum16 · 17/12/2022 12:43

I have a boy so not sure how relevant - he mentioned playing with cars and magnetic tiles (to build a lion’s den). He also said they did some cutting.

hopefulmum16 · 17/12/2022 12:44

Also anybody has any tips on Highgate round 2?

Pinky1011 · 08/01/2023 18:19

anyone have any insight into what the habs boys second round assessments for 4+ be based on????

NameChangeDays · 08/01/2023 18:58

Following for any advice on 4+ assessments

hopefulmum16 · 11/01/2023 21:04

mums, any advice on UCS round 2 - also anyone knows how many kids are there - its such a mystery with them!

4pluscraziness · 11/01/2023 22:14

Dear @hopefulmum16 not sure, but going by other schools the second round is usually about 80-100 children. Is that your final one?

hopefulmum16 · 12/01/2023 07:42

Yes 4plus craziness there is only round 2 now but i know total seats are only 32

ISW2022 · 12/01/2023 10:13

Just need to vent somewhere I guess… poor DD has had high temperature and been poorly for the past week, exactly when we’re sitting first rounds for some our preferred schools… I feel for her and I’m so sad it’s been such bad luck… fingers crossed for healthy children during these stressful times, don’t underestimate how important that is! Best of luck folks..

hopefulmum16 · 12/01/2023 13:30

Oh no ISW i feel your stress - I really hope your daughter feels well and gets through this assessment fiasco ! Good luck

Villageishere · 12/01/2023 18:06

Ahh no. Hope she feels better soon. I wished they'd do these assessments in the summer when kids are not prone to getting coughs and colds.

ISW2022 · 12/01/2023 19:21

I know, right… Husband says ‘such is life’ but I can’t help feeling like it’s somehow unfair… Poor little ones, so much hangs on just being healthy and in a good mood on the day!

4pluscraziness · 12/01/2023 19:27

Sorry to hear that. Agree that it’s so hard at this time of year. Hopefully she will be better before her next ones! Anyone heard from NLCS yet about the second round?

hopefulmum16 · 12/01/2023 22:36

My friend with a daughter says round 2 news is only next week Monday/Tuesday

ISW2022 · 16/01/2023 20:35

Hoping you’re all hanging in there these days… Embarrassingly, I’ve been a bit of a nervous wreck 😰

Any tips on SHHS and Channing second rounds at all..? Emails say more of the same but surely they must tailor their approach a bit..?!

Tenterhooks · 17/01/2023 13:01

@ISW2022 seconded on the nervous wreck. Didnt get through Channing round 1, Strangely devastated about not getting through Channing - a rejection for a 4 year old feels personal (I know it shouldnt, it is expected). Went to a non-feeder nursery so worth a shot

@hopefulmum16 Highgate round 2 to do as well - any tips would be helpful from others

4pluscraziness · 17/01/2023 16:52

The wait for the next 2 weeks will be painful. Sorry have not applied to Channing or Highgate but wishing you all the best for those.

hopefulmum16 · 17/01/2023 17:51

Good luck everyone - the next two weeks will definitely be stressful!

NameChangeDays · 19/01/2023 06:09

Anyone know at what point UCS, Highgate etc request reports from nurseries for 4+? Is it only when they’ve decided who they want to offer to? Ie after the second round of interviews? So if nursery hasn’t heard from them does that mean that a child hasn’t gotten in?

hopefulmum16 · 19/01/2023 13:30

Not sure, but interesting question. I will ask our nursery if they know on UCS.
highgate didn’t mention they ask references and our nursery hasn’t provided in the past
