Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

Would be keen to hear if anyone else's experience differed from ours.

muminwood · 18/01/2022 09:17

Ours is this afternoon @puzzledmom will let you know

Sparklingnirwal · 18/01/2022 10:44

How long was the conversation for?

Emily201 · 18/01/2022 11:15

@puzzledmom thanks. Ours is tomorrow and will update everyone here

7PlusPP1234 · 18/01/2022 11:54

We just had ours . No disclosure of results . Just a general chat about your son and school

7PlusPP1234 · 18/01/2022 11:55

Ours lasted for 7-8 minutes

londonswmum · 18/01/2022 15:02

Hi All, sorry was an hectic day yesterday and today and did not have time to spoke.
Parents interview went quite well I thought, very informal and relax about 10 min. We were asked if we had other offers and what our first choice was.

Curiousma · 18/01/2022 18:03

Hi All,
We had our parents interview too. It was a general chat and very relax took about 5-6 mins. There was not any information about child performance.

londonswmum · 18/01/2022 18:13

We just have to wait now :) glad it is all over :) DS will be able to relax and have fun time :)

Vikson · 19/01/2022 08:54

I will be preparing my daughter for 7+ this year and would be grateful if you could share the books/online resources and the levels that your DC went through while preparing. Many thanks

Curiousma · 19/01/2022 09:34

@Vikson

Exam paper Plus 7+ papers ( English, maths, reasoning, spelling, dictation, listening)
Yellowbird 7+ and 8+ all papers
Bonds books all subjects depending on your child age start from there and go up.
CGP books comprehension, maths, VR , NVR
sims and schofield books maths , reasoning, comprehension

St. Paul 7+ or 8+ reading list, read as much as your child can read. Reading is important for comprehension skills, vocabulary and etc.

Mrs worldsmith dictionary or word a day to improve vocabulary and story writing book.
( I liked word a day)
Letts 7+ creative writing book.

Hope this will help.
I Sent you a PM with details. Feel free to PM if you have further questions.

2minutesplease · 19/01/2022 09:46

@Vikson, see my reply in PM too. Just a little comment to fantastic list provided by @Curiousma - my DS just read a couple of books from St Paul’s list, the rest would be too complicated for him. But he read a lot of easier books which turned out to be just fine. So don’t be disheartened if your DC is not at this levels of books just yet!

2minutesplease · 19/01/2022 09:48

Yes, and also it depends what schools you are aiming for @Vikson. Some schools have much more complex and complicated assessments than others.

Curiousma · 19/01/2022 09:52

@2minutesplease I agree with you. Thank you very much for explaining and again I totally agree it depends which school you are aiming.

Vikson · 19/01/2022 11:07

@Curiousma @2minutesplease thank you for your detailed inputs. We are aiming for NLCS and HABS.

2minutesplease · 19/01/2022 21:14

I just realised that there is not a single DD in this thread! From what I remember there are just boys schools being discussed.

puzzledmom · 20/01/2022 09:46

@2minutesplease you're right!

@Vikson I would also look at past papers towards end of summer. Schools like Latymer tend to follow past papers format so worth being familiar with those. We are doing 11 plus for my Dd and I both Nlcs and Habs have past papers. A Google search might bring up the papers, otherwise piacademy has past papers

Vikson · 20/01/2022 10:05

@puzzledmom thank you for the tip.

Good luck with your DD preparations!

mominator7plus · 20/01/2022 11:41

@Curiousma

Thanks for this great list for 7+ preparation. Could you please send me the detailed message as well.

Curiousma · 20/01/2022 13:04

Hi All,
Is the parents interview finishing today or will carry on tomorrow?

Jesse21plus · 20/01/2022 20:12

@Curiousma thought it was finished yesterday? Not sure though

Curiousma · 20/01/2022 20:16

@Jesse21plus
Thank you very much.

Jesse21plus · 20/01/2022 20:41

Not sure how everyone felt post parent interview. We had ours on Tuesday and my impression was the decision was already made and the parent interview might not be much relevant. Anyway, will see tomorrow…..

anotherusernameugh · 20/01/2022 20:57

I'm doing 4+, but hoping there's some similarities in terms of process. When are school references normally asked for?

2minutesplease · 20/01/2022 21:05

@anotherusernameugh, for 7+ the schools usually ask for references in October prior to exams (at least those which hold their exams in Autumn).

Fingers crossed for all DS waiting for Westminster results. Are they are out tomorrow?
