7+ exam

Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

@muminwood Thank you very much.

muminwood · 07/01/2022 11:03

@Curiousma did you DS happen to mention on comprehension level- were they long answers, tricky or inference based questions? I am worried DS found a few of the questions out of 7 to be tricky and not fully understand the question itself.

Curiousma · 07/01/2022 11:07

@muminwood My DS said there were 1 or 2 marks questions he didn’t say that it was tricky, he said it was easier than King’s.

Happy New year to all of you! And good luck for the last few bit of exams!
For those who had multiple offer from SPJ and kings have you made up your mind? Or waiting for WUS? Asking for a friends on Kings waitlist. Thanks

We were at 8:30 slot yesterday. It looked crowded but didn’t think there were more than 100. Guess it’s just due to the small entrance and narrow street. Not sure other than 8:30 and 9:30 there were any other staggered slots

2minutesplease · 07/01/2022 13:22

@Parent123456, when choosing between Kings and St Paul’s we spoke to many parents in both schools and realised that the main difference is still location. There are slightly more students who are going to Oxbridge and US universities from St Paul’s than from Kings, St Paul’s have better results at maths olympiads, Kings apparently is better in chess - but in both schools the children who are part in Olympiad or chess teams have external tutors and work a lot at home. All Kings parents claimed their kids are very happy at school. Kings Junior is more relaxed, St Paul’s Junior is a bit more competitive. We decided that our DS would be equally successful in any of these schools but logistically Kings worked better plus we likely the warmth and friendliness of Kings we experienced at Open day and tours.

Thanks @2minutesplease for taking the time to answer. I guess it will not helped my friend but they ll probably parents doing the opposite choice.

2minutesplease · 07/01/2022 13:42

@Parent123456
Sorry I misread your question! I thought the question was about reasons, but I’ll leave it there, maybe it will be of use for someone.
I personally know one family who will release their Kings offer in favour of St Paul’s- again because of easier logistics. However as we all know waiting lists does not always move…

Shehr · 07/01/2022 15:44

Has the KCJS waiting list moved at all since initial offers given? Asking for a friend. Thank you!

@2minutesplease thank you for sharing your thoughts and research on this. I have had the same sort of responses from current parents too

@shehr my friend has not heard any movement, they are probably waiting for acceptance deadline to move on the list. As they over offer and some parents are holding on to up to 3 different offers until the last moment.

Jesse21plus · 07/01/2022 20:19

@2minutesplease. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and agree with you both are great schools and DS could be successful in either of them! Between SPJ and King’s, DS is a bit more inclined to SPJ as he was really fascinated with the engineering room there as well as huge sports ground although he was not that sporty :) We hear there are quite a few tend to move to good US universities in addition to Oxbridge compared with other top schools. Think this will help keep DS options open in case DS would like to study abroad in the future (although it’s a while before that happens)

Waitlist1234 · 08/01/2022 16:44

@jesse21plus WUS is very popular for sending kids in top US universities (10% in 2021)

USA: Duke 1
USA: Georgetown 1
USA: Harvard 1

Jesse21plus · 08/01/2022 18:01

@Waitlist1234. Thank you! Think St Paul’s has around 10 - 20% going to good US universities during the past 3 years. WUS is a great school but not sure if DS likes it more and whether he will get offer

2minutesplease · 08/01/2022 20:02

24 out of 202 St Paul’s boys boys went to US unis last year - www.stpaulsschool.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/2020-Leavers-Destinations-for-website-updated-May-2021.pdf

2minutesplease · 08/01/2022 20:07

Kings is sending around 10-15 kids to US every year

Jesse21plus · 08/01/2022 20:34

Guess the number varies each year. St Paul’s got around 40 going to US in 2018

muminwood · 08/01/2022 20:59

@Curiousma DS confirmed there were 5 synonyms asked for ‘nice’. Antonyms were part of VR.

Curiousma · 08/01/2022 21:42

@muminwood Thank you very much for confirming.
Does anyone know when we will get the results for WUS written exam, my first email around October says on Tuesday 11th and second emails says Thursday 13th?

muminwood · 08/01/2022 21:45

I think it’s 13th Jan with interviews on 17th.
