Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

@mugglebump
I feel ur wus assessment is inaccurate.

Surfermum40 · 25/12/2021 20:39

Don’t think SPJ Math is at Yr4 either. DS in top quarter Math and it wasn’t tricky. The usual EPP papers and bond books seemed more than enough.

Will you and family all a very merry Christmas and happy new year!
The past one was not easy for either us adult or our DS let’s next the coming one is well rewarded full with happiness Halo

Anyone sitting Habs 7+ Round 2?

Waitlist1234 · 06/01/2022 14:22

Hi All
Anyone sat the WUS exam today?
How was it?

shehr · 06/01/2022 14:54

Z@Waitlist1234 he found it trickier than St. Paul's. What about your DS? I couldn't get much out of mine.

DS definitely found the English trickier than SPJ. Couldn’t get much out on the Reasoning front besides it being more challenging.

Curiousma · 06/01/2022 16:29

Does anyone know how many children took the WUS exam today?

puzzledmom · 06/01/2022 17:03

Same here. DS found Maths trickier than St Paul's. He was surprisingly forthcoming about the papers. NVR was view from the top, VR had antonym's and comparisons, English was written with description of New York and Maths had division by 10, number line amongst some tricky word problems.

puzzledmom · 06/01/2022 17:04

@Curiousma don't know how many but DH thought it was a lot more than St Pauls

Waitlist1234 · 06/01/2022 17:09

Definitely seemed trickier. Is there a big gap in academics at the junior school compared to SPJ and kings? Ie are the boys going to wus the league above SPJ?

muminwood · 06/01/2022 17:16

S

muminwood · 06/01/2022 17:24

Same. It seemed more challenging than SPJ. NVR was 4 mins for each heading. 5 in total. DS doesn’t seem to remember much of VR but he found it tricky. Comprehension was a passage and then a picture describing NY. DIdnt seem to finish it all. Couldn’t get much out of him for Math. Can’t quite understand overall 😓

muminwood · 06/01/2022 17:34

No idea. Any clue how many staggered timings were there?

Shehr · 06/01/2022 18:28

@Waitlist1234 I doubt there is a difference in the calibre of boys at these schools. If anything I feel WUS loses out on many bright boys who don’t give the WUS exam having secured offers at the other two.

A bit of side note - any DS is appearing for the WUS 8+ tomorrow or did SPJ 8+ today? So nervous at the moment and would love to hear anything from anyone in the same boat!

njshore · 06/01/2022 23:26

I heard about 300 boys sat WUS 7+ today. That seems about right from the past except for last year when it was online.

Waitlist1234 · 07/01/2022 08:52

so that is way more competitive than SPJ and Kings where there is around 400 kids for 54 places

Curiousma · 07/01/2022 10:05

@njshore Thank you very much for the information.

@muminwood I don’t know how many staggered time there were. My DS went in at 9:30 and there were not many children and I thought less students took the exam.

muminwood · 07/01/2022 10:33

@Curiousma ours was 9:30 too. Seems around 60-70 kids not more at that time.

puzzledmom · 07/01/2022 10:39

Ours was at 8:30 and was very crowded; took forever to get registered and go in. I assumed they hadn't staggered times!

Curiousma · 07/01/2022 10:42

@muminwood Yes, I thought there were around 60 kids at that time as well.

Could you please double check the English part with your DS. My DS said comprehension part was about 7 questions none of them were multiple choice. He says writing part first question was asking 6 synonyms of nice and then there was a picture about New York City and they were asked two write a couple of sentences for description. I just wonder if they were really asked to write couple sentences or just he wrote it short.

muminwood · 07/01/2022 10:54

@Curiousma that is correct. DS mentioned there were 7 questions to first part and he found it unusually tricky. The next part was a picture of NY city and they had to write 3 sentences on it. I will check on synonyms once DS is back from school. He didn’t mention it at the time but this has me worrying. Synonyms (esp 6 for one word) not his strongest point. He also didn’t have enough time to finish the English. He did mention there was enough time to finish both the reasoning papers with the teachers explaining before every part exactly what the child had to do- eg- how to spot the odd one out, how to view from the top, etc and Math was in the knick of time.

Surfermum40 · 07/01/2022 11:00

Math seemed to be very easy according to DS. No tricky word problems and straightforward calculations, fraction shading etc. Reasoning not so much.
