3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2018

mumteacher · 30/10/2017 00:38

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas👏🏼

(Roll on 2018!) 😉

I just heard from Channing - DD got called for the second round. Any suggestions on what DD should do to prepare? Appreciate it.

ChelseaK · 11/01/2018 17:11

Hi Shodo,
Do you mean some girls have received SH reception round 2 invite?

Momof3toB · 11/01/2018 17:17

Just got an invite for 2nd round channing :)

Yup, channing second round via email. Anyone knows if it will be significantly different from the first round? I've read before that they even look at whether the girls can walk up and down stairs steadily.

Yvest · 11/01/2018 17:59

My niece is at channing, she’s a lovely girl but she’s just an ordinary little girl. She’s not exceptionally clever, she’s not doing anything especially advanced academically even in year 2 and she wasn’t prepped at all for it so please don’t stress.

Momof3toB · 11/01/2018 18:06

275 applications at Channing for 40 spaces.
120 invited to second round.

I like the school personally, the academic results are on par with the top schools.

We certainly wouldn't be saying no :)

I'm just grateful we got a second round after our Habs disaster!

NLCS round 1 results will be sent out on Monday or Tuesday by email. They'll finish round 1 tomorrow.

Fitnessfanatic108 · 11/01/2018 20:47

@edbr thanks v helpful. I can stop hovering around my phone !! (until Monday) Is that from admissions if you don’t mind me asking ? X

Momof3toB · 11/01/2018 21:37

@Stareyed thank you!
No idea what to expect at the next round

shodo · 11/01/2018 21:52

Yes people have heard via email for second round SH

ChelseaK · 11/01/2018 22:00

Thanks Shodo. SH - Any idea if there are any hopes tomm to receive an email? Or second round emails have been sent already?

EdBr · 11/01/2018 22:20

I was helping on one of the days and heard the teacher told a parent it'll be by Tuesday. Also on the school website it says the last 4+ round 1 date is 12 Jan :)

Thanks @edbr
@matupatlu yes have round 2 habs

MumDad999 · 12/01/2018 09:45

Sorry for the short delay, been brought down by a cold although as I'm sure you all will know mums can't just stay in bed - the laundry/cooking/kids still needs to carry on

We also got invited back for a second round at Channing next week Tuesday. Does any one know what we should expect? Is it more of the same?

We didn't get habs, the chances of NLCS are even slimmer now considering we didn't get habs, focusing on Channing for my DD!

Any tips?

Momof3toB · 12/01/2018 14:27

I keep hearing its more of the same at Channing but more closer up.

Someone mentioned about walking up and downstairs, hoping and skipping.

Sorry not very useful

Does anyone know when we expect to hear from SH second round?

Am not sure if I have been grossly naive (I expect) but has anyone else fou d the 3+ assessment much more full-page than expected? DC is 2.5 and came out rather unhappy. The school said it was informal play but I expect it was a bit more intensive than that. There was a teacher for each child (I expected this) but also about 4 other teachers/staff in the room. While DC coped with the assessment (no tears) I think the number of adults might have been a bit frightening and I'm not convinced it was the simple play session and story that was described to me (no evidence for this other than mothers instinct, I wonder if a lot of different adults asked them to do small tasks like stacking duplo perhaps?).

Have another 'observation' lined up for Friday and am not sure whether to go along or try for 4+ once DC is a bit older.... I don't want to put DC off the concept of 'school'...
