Is it too soon for a September 2017 reception support thread?

Anybody about to embark on school applications and want to chat? I don't know about anyone else but I think I'll need a place to get advice / support over the next year!

DS will be 4 in January and I think will be very ready for school come September. Our catchment school is single form entry and very over-subscribed but we live quite close so fingers crossed we'll get in!

First school tours next week, quite looking forward to it!

I've downloaded the parentcomms app as the portal said there's often issues with emails so hoping it'll pop up there as soon as info is available.

So bloody nervous! In a London Borough and I don't think ours comes through until this evening. I checked first thing anyway and probably will do throughout the day. DS goes to the connecting Junior school and it's literally at the end of the road so I really can't see any reason we won't get the place. DD already attends the nursery so will be devastated if she has to move ok I'll be devastated, she probably won't care and it will be impossible to get them to different schools without one doing breakfast club so fingers crossed! Well done to everyone who got what they wanted and good luck to all still waiting.

I don't remember being this nervous when we applied for DS's reception place 5 years ago!

HalfCarrot · 18/04/2017 06:40

I dreamt we got our first choice then I got stabbed in the playground.

ginforall · 18/04/2017 06:47

Sierra259 · 18/04/2017 07:07

London here too, so not really expecting anything until this evening nkt that it's stopping me from checking every 5 minutes. It's going to be a long day!

BaxterStockboy · 18/04/2017 07:08

So glad to hear so many of you getting your first preferences, hopefully more to come!

travelmad · 18/04/2017 07:14

First choice here!

BellaGoth · 18/04/2017 07:37

Probably a stupid question, but what happens now? I've accepted our place, will the school write to us? Presumably there will be some sort of parents evening?

halfcarrot Grin that could probably happen around here, tensions are running high!!!

We got our first choice!

AddALemon · 18/04/2017 07:43

We got second choice, would have loved first but oh well! Second choice is still a lovely school!

Soubriquet · 18/04/2017 07:47

Yes what happens now? (First time school mum)

Obviously I've accepted the place and the school are going to get in contact. But what happens then? Does it differ from school to school

GraceGrape · 18/04/2017 07:48

The school will contact you by letter some time this term. Usually there will be a meeting for parents and one or two "settling" sessions, generally at the end of the summer term. The school will send you lots of paperwork to fill in!
