Is it too soon for a September 2017 reception support thread?

Anybody about to embark on school applications and want to chat? I don't know about anyone else but I think I'll need a place to get advice / support over the next year!

DS will be 4 in January and I think will be very ready for school come September. Our catchment school is single form entry and very over-subscribed but we live quite close so fingers crossed we'll get in!

First school tours next week, quite looking forward to it!

No sorry to hear things didn't go well last week. Hoping this week has been better for you.

DS announced this evening that he's been put on "The Cloud". It's basically the class "naughty list". He couldn't remember why, he was just really excited that it wasn't an actual cloud as he'd apparently thought. I've got a horrible feeling my oh-so-productive meeting with the SENCO was just a box ticking exercise and nothing has actually been put in place for him. I've not seen anything that the SENCO promised. Not been able to speak to the teacher so far as she's been busy with the children who are upset at drop off but obviously I'm going to have to have a chat tomorrow and find out what's actually happened. Of course it's entirely possible he's not on the cloud at all and is just a bit confused. Really hoping so.

OMG about the cloud thing, hope it turns out to be no big deal. Not sure a naughty list is really a good idea at this age. I'm sad but not surprised your meeting with the SENCO may have been a waste of time although they are very busy and I had to wait many months for anything to be done about one of my sons so don't give up hope yet. I know that's no consolation when a child's needs can't wait that long though.
This week started better here but the teacher has now decided it's "easier for her" if we just send them in in trainers on PE days and they don't bother getting changed. "Easier for her" was the excuse she gave about the packed lunches as well, never mind what's best for children. Why didn't she just say so before everyone bought PE kit, plimsolls and a kit bag??? gggrrrr. I wouldn't care but on top of all the wasted money over the wrong shoes for my others last week I could do with out it.

Sadly it turns out he was put on the cloud, apparently he threw some cars at other children. I can guess exactly what happened. He'll have been playing alone, other children suddenly joined it and started jostling and he'll have lost it and lashed out.

I'm gutted. And feel so stupid for not seeing it coming. I spoke to the teacher at drop off. She's not spoken to the SENCO at all, or read his file. So the report from nursery, pediatrician letters, SALT letters are sitting gathering dust. The school have had this handed to them on a plate, nursery did all the hard work figuring out his triggers and putting things in place for him. All school have to do is emulate that. Which is what the SENCO promised would happen.

I rang the school earlier, still waiting for someone to get back to me.

Good luck to your DD today Miaow.

I have a meeting with the teacher today. Already had one full blown panic attack about it all today. Hoping to get through the meeting without bursting into tears in front of her.
