Is it too soon for a September 2017 reception support thread?

Anybody about to embark on school applications and want to chat? I don't know about anyone else but I think I'll need a place to get advice / support over the next year!

DS will be 4 in January and I think will be very ready for school come September. Our catchment school is single form entry and very over-subscribed but we live quite close so fingers crossed we'll get in!

First school tours next week, quite looking forward to it!

Lovely. Thank you

mrsclaus100 · 18/04/2017 07:56

Halfcarrot I think your dreams sums up all of our anxieties excellently! Good luck

Has anyone in West Sussex heard yet? I've tried the portal which just says the application round is closed and I've hit refresh about a hundred times on my emails already!

tinypop4 · 18/04/2017 08:07

Apparently the e-mails come between 10am and 4pm here in Brighton so a little waiting to go yet. The anticipation meant a very broken night sleep!
So pleased to read about many of you getting your preferences though!

FlossieFrog · 18/04/2017 08:09

Does anyone know when East Sussex emails come through? The website just says by 5pm.

HelenaJustina · 18/04/2017 08:10

Congratulations to everyone pleased with their choice and Brew for everyone still waiting. I'm waiting either for 11am or 2pm. Much later than with the other DC, then I could log in much earlier...

HelenaJustina · 18/04/2017 08:10

My whole day will be planned around wifi/4G!

wintersdawn · 18/04/2017 08:14

Last time I was waiting West Sussex emails came out between 9 and 12. Not sure if it'll be later this time due to bank holidays.

SlaveToDisney · 18/04/2017 08:14

I am pulling my hair out here waiting for an email I'm in cambridgeshire here and have no idea when we will receive an email the website juat says on the 18th of April arghhhh.

BellaGoth · 18/04/2017 08:16

Our school do a really drawn out start, I think the children don't go full time until October!

Fortunately I'm on maternity leave at the moment, and although I'll be back at work in September I'll be able to cover the phased start with the annual leave I've been able to accrue.

Goodness knows how I'll manage it when DD starts in a few years!

Just received an email and we got our first choice the relief is immense.

bettybyebye · 18/04/2017 08:41

Second choice here and very happy. Would have loved first choice but it was a long shot!

GraceGrape · 18/04/2017 08:42

Bella, legally they can't do that. A school round here had that policy and they had to change it when a parent complained to the LA. Legally, a child is entitled to a full-time primary place from the beginning of the Autumn term if they have turned 4 by 31st August. Most schools will have a short settling in period but this isn't legally enforceable and half a term is excessive unless a child is struggling and parents and school have made a special arrangement.

ShamefulDodger · 18/04/2017 08:58

Phew.

Got our second choice, which to be honest was pushing our look anyway.

We applied to three popular over subscribed schools because they had good SN provision (no ehcp though so was chancing it) ignoring the poor undersubscribed school we are literally next door to.

Can I just ask, how do you find out where on the waiting list you have been placed?

ShamefulDodger · 18/04/2017 08:58

Sorry, I meant for our first choice.

It says we are on the waiting list but I wanted to find out where.

FlossieFrog · 18/04/2017 09:01

Just got our email and got first choice - phew!

East Sussex

SarcasmMode · 18/04/2017 09:02

Just waiting for DH to update me (being sent to his e-mail) - hoping it's our first choice as we live so close by.

Frazzled2207 · 18/04/2017 09:02

Shameful
Round here waiting list positions are not know for about 3 weeks- because they need people to accept or decline positions first.

ShamefulDodger · 18/04/2017 09:07

Ah ok thank you Frazzled2207

BellaGoth · 18/04/2017 09:07

Grace I had idly pondered that point when I first found out. I might make a phone call when we're officially told the starting arrangements.

blamethecat · 18/04/2017 09:32

2nd choice for us but on reflection probably the better one.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 18/04/2017 09:40

Happy for everyone who got what they wanted. I not only didn't get any choice but they've allocated my son a school that my older children went to that I fell out with badly and had to pull them out of for safety reasons. I don't know what to do I can't think straight

BellaGoth · 18/04/2017 09:44

Oh No. Sad

Might be worth starting a thread asking for advice. There are some really clued up posters on here.
