DD starts reception in Sept. Is very clear she doesn't want trousers. So have got:

3 x dresses
3 x polo shirts
2 x skirts
2 x jumpers
2 x cardigans
Lots of socks and tights
2 x pe shorts
2 x pe t shirts

Trousers for pe days, very few girls can manage tights on their own and at speed for changing.

reni1 · 24/07/2015 12:05

I think they put some special dye in the school spag bol. Glue, paint, pens, mud no problem, but almost all the polos were ultimately ruined by oily red spag bol.

Sirzy · 24/07/2015 12:30

reni when the weather allows line dry them no idea why but sunshine really is great at getting tomato sauce stains out. I tend to hand wash when he gets in from school get it straight out onto the line til dusk then machine wash and line dry the next day and it's gone.

tobysmum77 · 24/07/2015 19:05

Tied they do slim fitting trousers at Next, they are a god send.

tobysmum77 · 24/07/2015 19:07

And in terms of tights most seem to manage, dd just hates them because they dont fit her (tall and vv slim) So they fall down.

Shannaratiger · 24/07/2015 19:12

Sounds lots mine have 2 of everything except PE kit which only 1 of. PE kit comes home every weekend. School clothes sometimes stay clean until Wednesday or Thursday - not for DD 11, she needs clean T-shirt everyday. Brought the same amount for secondary.

PrimalLass · 24/07/2015 19:16

Ours wear summer dresses whenever and DD was wearing them with tights until the middle of June!

I would ditch the skirts and get pinafores. Otherwise the polo shirts get trashed.

PrimalLass · 24/07/2015 19:18

Our school is ludicrously hot and only 5 mins from home. DD wore gingham dresses all through P1, with tights, because she chose to, not because we are skint!

Inkymess · 24/07/2015 22:27

Lads at our school wear summer dresses with tights and cardi or jumper. At our school anything goes in terms of combinations of uniform. Girls wear trousers and shorts as well as dresses, skirts, Pinafores and culottes - all year round

Inkymess · 24/07/2015 22:28

Loads rather. It would never occur to me to iron any school uniform

Inkymess · 24/07/2015 22:33

Both mine need a clean polo and jumper everyday. Might get 2 days out of trousers/shorts/culottes. I wash once at weekend so mine have 6 polis and 5 jumpers/cardi/fleece each

Iggly · 25/07/2015 08:12

My ds has just finished reception.

We needed 6-7 polo shirts in the end as I had one in his bag for spare, he lost one. Plus I work 4 days so couldn't wash much in the week.

One PE kit only needed

3 pairs of shorts for the warmer months (not many in September!)

5 pairs of trousers as he got filthy every day

5 jumpers for the winter

When it got bitterly cold he needed vests

7 pairs of socks (1 spare, one lost)

A thin rain Mac

A thick winter coat

I'm confused by people buying four or six of things. I have three of everything, the idea being they can wear sets 1,2,3 on mon-wed, then I have Tues pm til Thursday am to wash and dry sets 1 and 2 for Thursday and Friday. That way I'm not a slave to the washing but I get my moneys worth out of every item. Why six polos? There are only five days in the week! NB genuine question, I'm not saying I'm right and you're all wrong etc. Any time saving tips are welcome since I'm going back to full time work in Sept.

OP I think that's enough, although as others have said in reception the outermost layer takes a lots of punishment so bear in mind which item that will be! NB we have logoed polos but I have cheated and got plain ones to go under DD's pinafores. She has one with logo to wear with her skirt Grin

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 25/07/2015 14:53

Why six polo's -because most places sell them in two packs.Grin

reni1 · 25/07/2015 15:18

Yes, libraries, I want 5 and end up with 6 because of the two- or three packs.

GloriaPritchett · 25/07/2015 15:54

It's also a good idea to keep a polo or shirt by for photos, trips and the Christmas/summer assembly etc.

Remember to label EVERYTHING, and that labels can be cut out... sharpie in the hems can prove something is yours. Also show your DC where the label is.

I would get a set of trousers for PE days, because tights are a bugger for wee girls. They're also good for trips and playing outside.

No laces unless they are very confident with them.

reni1 · 25/07/2015 16:05

By Christmas at the latest we are down by one or two anyway, lost on PE days or total write off after an overexcited art lesson. Come Easter we need to wash mid week and mid July lots of stained rags less than pristine pieces.

TeacupDrama · 25/07/2015 16:27

if you only wash school uniform once a week you need 5 of most things for reception only 1 set of PE stuff though
my DD did not always need a clean sweatshirt or skirt everyday,

summer dresses can be worn from easter to october but I found 3 was plenty normally worn with white ankle socks

for winter she managed with 2 pinafores and 2 skirts 3 logoed sweatshirts 1 logo polo for special events and a 3 pack for the rest of the time she had 3 pairs of grey tights and 4 pairs of knee length white socks,

some kids get messy but they don't paint every day in school like they might in nursery

dementedma · 25/07/2015 16:35

Wow some of you buy serious amounts of uniform! How can a girl need 3 dresses, 3 skirts and 3 pairs of trousers?
Five jumpers??? Five pairs of trousers?
I wouldn't have enough room to store that amount of uniform when all 3 dcs were in school.
And if you have five pairs of trousers, when they outgrow one pair they outgrow them all at the same time.

PrimalLass · 25/07/2015 16:50

Maybe not everyone wants to do washing all the time?

MooseyMoo · 25/07/2015 17:00

DD has just finished reception and she had:

X4 pinafore dresses (with zip at front)
X6 polo shirts (that are in good condition as worn under pinafore)
X2 cardigans (school logo)
X5 tights
X lots of white socks!

Summer uniform:
Summer check dress x5
X2 cardigans (lighter than school logo cardie)

Our school did PE in school clothes for first term, then requested tshirt, shorts and bare feet. Then after Xmas break they needed trainers. Keep a note of which days are PE and put them in the easiest to change clothes ie not tights

We also had to supply: wellies, winter hat, gloves, sun hat. In summer we have to apply sun cream (8 hour one) as they don't reapply at school. You may need to do this if it's hot when school starts in Sept.

dementedma · 25/07/2015 19:37

You don't actually have to wash everything after one wear, unless visibly stained or filthy. With older dcs, things can be worn more than once, particularly skirts and trousers.

Iggly · 25/07/2015 19:44

Five pairs of trousers because I work 4 days a week so cannot be doing with washing all the time. I tried starting the year with 3 and soon gave up.

Iggly · 25/07/2015 19:45

Also 6 polos because I'd have 5 clean for the week and one in ds's bag as a just in case. We did need them sometimes.

reni1 · 25/07/2015 19:47

I'm still full of hope we'll get two wears out of something, dementedma, not holding my breath though.
