DD starts reception in Sept. Is very clear she doesn't want trousers. So have got:

3 x dresses
3 x polo shirts
2 x skirts
2 x jumpers
2 x cardigans
Lots of socks and tights
2 x pe shorts
2 x pe t shirts

You don't actually have to wash everything after one wear

Every day after school my children do either tennis (just in uniform as no time to change), or stay and play at school (grass, mud, woods). I actually do have to wash it all. And school uniform is cheaper than their other clothes anyway.

dementedma · 25/07/2015 19:49

No worries iggly each to their own. I work full time and never had that much uniform for my kids but then they obviously weren't as clean and tidy as yours lol Grin.
I probably couldn't afford to buy that much for all 3 of mine either, but good luck to those who can.

Iggly · 25/07/2015 19:58

Haha well I work 4 days and long hours, I don't want to spend the evenings washing. Plus ds's clothes come back absolutely filthy. And we've had holes on some trousers too so have had to buy more.

By the end of the year his polos looked dreadful!! Stained and all sorts.

I don't think he's ever come home in clean uniform unless it was a change in the day.

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 25/07/2015 20:00

Some stuff now lasts two days that is true (just finished year 1). In reception it was visibly filthy after a day's wear. Much like non school clothes.Grin

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 25/07/2015 20:02

If you have white polos soak for 12 hours in very strong Napisan, then wash, extra rinse and dry outside. Brought many of ours back from the edge.Smile

Getdownfromtherethisinstant · 25/07/2015 20:15

As, yes two packs of polos, of course - our logoed ones come separately. I started out with two sweatshirts and it was a nightmare as they needed washed after every wear and getting the cuffs dry in winter was a PITA without a tumble drier. Three is much better as I can do one midweek wash and one weekend. DS is six now and going into y2 but still gets his lunch all over himself!

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 25/07/2015 20:43

Yeah. If ours were logo I would manage with fewer.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 25/07/2015 20:57

I've always managed with 3 of everything, maybe 4 polo shirts. In Reception that sometimes meant a mid week wash or more realistically a bit of strategic sponging with a damp cloth Grin

I would definitely get some trousers for PE days. (I have boys myself but friends with girls would recommend as no tights needed)

Now they are older we can manage with 2 jumpers and 2 pairs of trousers. Just as well as ds1's new school jumpers are astronomically priced.

Inkymess · 25/07/2015 22:38

It does depend on child. Mine go to breakfast club and spill milk. Then class and get covered in pen, glue etc. Then play in the outdoor classroom so on add water, grass and mud. Then have school dinners and spill that over them. Then back outside. Crawl in mud and climb trees. Back to class for more glue and pen. Onto afterschool club .. More muck. Hence fresh uniform per day

camtt · 25/07/2015 22:45

v. slovenly here. I've managed very well for a whole year with only 2 polos. I work full time but I don't spend all evening washing, my machine does that. He's 5 he doesn't stink yet!

DS 1 (12) lost all 3 of his sweatshirts, luckily recovered 2, I'm not buying him more this year.

PrimalLass · 26/07/2015 07:11

Tesco was doing white polo shirts for 50p a couple of years ago. I bought 20 for DS and still ran out by the end of the school year Blush Mud from football just stains so badly. and I am crap at laundry

He hasn't worn a school jumper for 3 years though, so I save money that way.

I bought some bits from the Aldi school uniform event yesterday. It is all really nice. I even bought cardis for DD because they are lovely, even though she will only wear them for the 5 mins to school then put them in the jumper box, never to be seen again.

LovelyFriend · 26/07/2015 07:25

I've found 3 polos plenty. It's the top
Layer they get dirty. So cardigans are the items we have most of.

Iggly · 26/07/2015 08:16

2 polos!

I will try the napisan. Not even vanish got the stains out.

At the first hint of warmth, ds ditched his number so the polos took the hit. Ds is a very mucky child. He attracts the dirt.

Iggly · 26/07/2015 08:17

Jumper not number

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 26/07/2015 08:36

iggly - when I say strong solution of napisan, really strong. They should have an alarming blue tinge after you remove them from the soaking liquid!

TheRachel · 26/07/2015 08:43

I bleach my dcs polo shirts when they are looking horrendous at the end of term - they then look good as new!

dementedma · 26/07/2015 09:29

On a slightly different tack, how much would you all estimate you spend on the going back to school uniform shop? Not about competitive spending either way - I spent most/I spent least etc. I love the threads on how much people spend on shopping and am just plain nosey - and of course, it will vary enormously depending on circumstances.
So far I have spent £60 on 13 year old Ds school shoes and trainers (size 10 1/2 Shock), £5 on socks, £7 on 3 white PE t-shirts, £8.00 on two white school shirts. Still need two more shirts, and two pairs of trousers and more boxers, but he needs those anyway. Last years coat will have to do, as will last years schoolbag. I will buy a jumper later in the year if he wants one but at the moment its cool to only wear a shirt and tie as jumpers and blazers are for wimps!

BikeRunSki · 26/07/2015 10:10

For ds (going into Class 2), last year's coat is still fine, as are trousers. His polo shirts are 2 years old and covered in ink, food and sun cream stains. They have been washed and bleached a hundred times. He could probably get another year out of them size wise, but I'll get new ones. His school jumpers are way too small now, but i got some new ones from school a few weeks ago. Not sure about PE kit. He certainly needs new shoes. As not much else needs replacing i'll get him some decent Start Rite or similar ones.

Iggly · 26/07/2015 11:05

Fab - I'm getting some today!!! I think I remember my mum doing this as a kid.

BikeRunSki · 26/07/2015 14:21

No point in me stocking up on uniform just yet. DS always shoots up in August! Next year I'l be getting pinnies and cardies too. Smile

PrimalLass · 26/07/2015 15:16

I've spent about £30 on shirts, socks, tights and cardis.

DS needs trousers (M&S), DD needs 2 summer dresses (wherever, M&S prob).

It's shoes that bankrupt me. They need outdoor and indoor shoes, so that's about £40/pair. Sob.

Getdownfromtherethisinstant · 26/07/2015 15:47

In total uniform for mine costs around £100 each including shoes. Our logoed polos are three for £20 or £7 each, sweatshirts a tenner each, £30-40 for shoes, plus trousers/pinafores at around £6-8 each, plus socks/tights etc. But I haven't spent that all in one go. DD has been given loads of handmedowns from a friend with twin girls so I've got all the logoed stuff for free. And DS just gets new stuff as and when I feel he needs it. He is very hard on trousers but I've saved money by turning those with holey knees into shorts.

dementedma · 26/07/2015 16:39

Yep, the shoes are a killer!

PrimalLass · 26/07/2015 17:52

I think you are Fife too? The new indoor shoes thing was a shocker.

dementedma · 26/07/2015 18:27

I'm in Fife yes, but what's this about indoor shoes???
