First choice here, gave catchment as second choice so really pleased. Derbyshire - available online 9.30am, got email 8.15am.

Telladomi · 16/04/2015 10:28

Kittykatzen - if the school's been downgraded recently that can be a good thing in the long run. It means the LA will be looking to get it upgraded again and can mean new staff, a drive to improve, and even investment. Obviously you know your area and child best, but don't despair!

I volunteer in an 'outstanding' school, but no one on staff really believes it's outstanding, and it's got that grade because it gets kids who are underachieving up to the average (not a bad thing!) - but it doesn't do that well with kids who are already at the average level, they just kinda bump along.

I'd read the Ofstead report and see what it says, it may be the things they're worried about aren't things you'd be worried about.

Our DD was allocated a school (closest to us) that was not one of our four preferences. We were devastated. It had hideous Ofsted and an awful reputation. It was made an academy in the Summer before she started. Appeals were pointless as we had no grounds whatsoever. We couldn't afford to move and the waiting lists had zero movement. Now, coming to the end of Year 1, she is absolutely flourishing. The school is having money poured into it, the grounds and staff are improving and we are very happy with it. I just wanted to share this to give hope to those who find themselves in this situation. Sometimes it really can work out.

We are waiting to hear about DS place today. Even though its pretty much certain we'll get in, I'm still nervous! Roll on 4pm!

Good luck everyone!

WhispersOfWickedness · 16/04/2015 10:46

I can't believe some of you are still waiting! Shock

I have to admit I only put one choice down too, but that is due to DD being a sibling and the chosen school is a very undersubscribed village school. We live closer than a lot of the children who will also be going, so the only way she would not have got in would have been for two sets of septuplets with older siblings at the school to move in next door to it ??

BigBroIsWatching · 16/04/2015 10:47

Longest. Day. Ever. Roll on 5.00pm!

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/04/2015 10:47

Glad you got in whispers

Smile
PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 16/04/2015 10:47

We got our first choice.

However, we bloody well should have. We have sibling priority and are well within the area they normally admit to even for eldest children. (It was our third preference for DD1, because of an awkward journey).

Now I have to listen to snobs who got given our school when it wasn't their first choice slagging off a school we love on Facebook Angry.

clairesey1976 · 16/04/2015 10:55

Gutted! My four year has been refused a place at the school where both her sisters go! Now we have to go down the whole appeals route.....so much hassle!

BooChunky · 16/04/2015 10:57

I'm in Surrey and we don't hear till 5!

Im so nervous, last year she wouldn't have got in from where we live and I know there are at least 17 siblings this year...

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/04/2015 10:58

Oh claire Sad

MrsGannicus · 16/04/2015 10:59

Good to hear stories from people who's opinions of schools has changed since being there and seeing the school turn around.

Really pleased for everyone who got their preferred school. Still a bit jealous we have so long to wait though! Roll on 5pm!

BooChunky · 16/04/2015 10:59

This happened to my SIL last year and her DS got in on appeal Thanks

Cecyhall · 16/04/2015 11:00

First choice here, thank goodness

Sorry some of you haven't had such good news

meadowquark · 16/04/2015 11:00

Oh no clairesey1976 why do you think he got refused? I am hoping for my 4 year old to go to the same school as his brother (faith school), but you got me worried now.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/04/2015 11:00

Yay cecy Smile

MTWTFSS · 16/04/2015 11:01

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/04/2015 11:07

I'm imagining someone sat at a desk with a coffee feet up laughing at all those people she knows are waiting with her mouse arrow hovering above the send button. deliberately torturing us all

MrsGannicus · 16/04/2015 11:11

That's awful claire. Doubly hard when you already have a DC somewhere else. Really hope the decision changes for you.

AccidentallyInLove · 16/04/2015 11:12

We didn't get any of our 3 choices. DD is number 1 on the waiting list for the first choice school. Please someone tell me this is good! I found out at midnight and haven't stopped crying. Blush

ultraworld · 16/04/2015 11:12

Hi all I am a first time user
I have just got a email from my local council, saying that all 3 places that we asked for, have not been offered to my child, I am completely lost as to what to do now, they have offered a place at a school that we don't want our child to go to. I really don't what to do now as all the schools that we want are oversubscribed.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/04/2015 11:13

Oh accidently Sad

1 is good though. You may well get in on second round if someone declines or moves

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/04/2015 11:14

ultra same happened to us with dd1.
so sorry Sad
