Why is there so much hype??

It's a very different system Blowin Not all schools have catchment areas (they just admit out as far as they can). Those that do generally give preference to catchment children, but you don't know you'll get a space at it.

ihearttc · 16/04/2015 16:46

Oh no Teaching

clucky80 · 16/04/2015 16:47

I'm another waiting for London - we have been told 7pm!

longestlurkerever · 16/04/2015 16:47

Teaching I am sorry. You should be automatically on the list but I would ring tomorrow to double check and find out your position on the lists. Could a childminder sort your wraparound issues? Our before and after school clubs are £5 an hour so roughly the same price as a childminder if I could find one that does termtime only.

longestlurkerever · 16/04/2015 16:48

Oh really clucky! Why? I have been banking on 5pm.

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 16:48

Wow, that's a pretty crap system Penguin. I don't think I could tolerate that, tbh. I don't know any parent who has went through all that drama just to get their child a place at a primary school. It seems completely unnecessary and surely the whole system should be due a massive review.

MrsGannicus · 16/04/2015 16:48

Can I sue the council for the state of my nails after making us wait this long?

MTWTFSS · 16/04/2015 16:50

Hertfordshire can now log-in to the system to accept offers.

Well, we don't really get a choice of whether to tolerate it. It just is what it is. Sad

Most of the issues come from the fact that England tends to be far more densly populated than Scotland (I've heard of some almighty scraps for places in Edinburgh too though).

If you give people a 'choice' , you need massive slack in the system, which we don't have. Hence some people end up with choices, others in 'black hole' areas, others only with a realistic chance of a decent school if they find God, etc, etc.

clucky80 · 16/04/2015 16:52

Longest I think it depends on the borough as a friend in the neighbouring borough has been told 5.30pm. I can't stand the wait yet I know I will be too scared to look as well! Our borough has released the allocations but we have applied to a faith school,so I can't even hazard a guess!

AnnieLewis · 16/04/2015 16:54

Clucky what borough are you? I'm Haringey and it just says 'evening'. Could they be any vague - er!

longestlurkerever · 16/04/2015 16:55

We are Haringey - anyone else? The website just says "evening" but people this morning seemed to suggest that at 5pm on the dot the London system would be updated and a button would appear. I assumed they have a joint system because more people in London will be applying across boroughs. I have an Islington school on my list

longestlurkerever · 16/04/2015 16:55

Ah -crossed posts Annie (waves to neighbour!) Wonder if we have any of the same schools on our lists?

AnnieLewis · 16/04/2015 16:57

Ha! Waves back at longest. I wouldn't be surprised if you are in an area that has a few very popular schools that are hugely oversubscribed despite (one in particular) being pretty big...

Getdownfromtherethisinstant · 16/04/2015 16:58

Ours just says evening too (surrey). My kids are away at Nana's I might just hit the wine now!

longestlurkerever · 16/04/2015 16:59

annie - we are not far away at all. That one is on my unrealistic options list - had to find some way of filling up the form!

MrsGannicus · 16/04/2015 17:00

Two minutes to go if it's 5pm. Come on London and Surrey - hit that button!

scriptbunny · 16/04/2015 17:00

Hi Annie and Longest,

Haringey here too... Just hanging around now. Going to put the kettle on for the x-millionth time.

PseudoBadger · 16/04/2015 17:01

It's there! Barnet

AnnieLewis · 16/04/2015 17:01

I have an Islington school on my list too, begins with A.... Grin See you at the school gates maybe!

DrMouse · 16/04/2015 17:02

waves @ Annie and Lurker. Waiting for Haringey here too!

sanam2010 · 16/04/2015 17:02
