Year 4 end of year levels

Inspired by the end of year 1 thread and yes, I know academic auccess isn't everything etc I'm just wondering what MNetters DC have achieved, which I expect will generally be above the national average!
DS:
Maths 4A
Writing 3A
Science 4B
Reading 4B

Oops writing actually 3B

Should I really know?
She is doing well and is happy at school probably coasting a bit

I would hope that my DD has learnt and progressed through the year, is stable and happy and socially developing. Levels are an ok tool...but they only look at certain things. They can make those who are not academically orientated feel bad, but more so their parents who struggle to keep going and supporting.

No, I don't think you should or shouldn't know, LeM, I was just curious after reading the year 1 thread. At my DS's school he's been aware (too aware) of his levels all year but that's a different thread that I don't feel like starting!

OP, you must know that your DC is doing very well compared to the norm at the end of Year 4.

(funny how posters that want to know how their DC are doing in relation in others always have very high achieving children).

DD1 has just been a year at this school so they don't have anyway of measuring her progress. Despite only starting the english curriculum in Y2 she is well ahead of the average. I do know they are going to push more her next year now that she is settled, and because she has matured a lot during this year.
She scored 47/50 for spelling, 97% in math and her reading books are NC L 5B (not sure if that means anything though!).
She will be choosing her own books next year as long as they are challenging enough.
She is well advanced in sciences because they started earlier in her previous school so her peers here are just catching up in her new school hence her coasting , plus she has always been very curious about it.
Her only "weak" point would be writing as she did more grammar and vocabulary than expressive writing before.

I am so very proud of her just for getting pass her panic attacks and anxiety, settling so well. May be I should care more about her levels, may be I would be if she was doing badly.

And yes I am boasting: she is doing amazingly well despite all the moves and weird choices of her parents!

And yes, PP (can't scroll up to see name sorry, on phone), I know my DS is doing very well academically. (I also know he is not good at everything and was certainly one of the least able at sports day yesterday.) I was partly curious about MNetter's DC's levels because DD in yr 1 is doing very well but appears just about average if you look on the yr 1 thread! So, I was just curious, and there are certainly less academic children I know who I would be extremely proud of if they were my children.

My DC end of Year Four:
Reading 4A
Writing 4B
Maths 4C

We are not given levels on year 4 report. If really want them you can ask. Have emerging, expected and above expected tick boxes and then written stuff about how child doing.
I am not asking about levels though probably would if below expected attainment.

reading 4A, maths 4B and writing 4B but levels are going so wont mean much next year!

Interesting that you all have high grades. was there a breakdown on the report of the % of children in year 4 getting grades of 4c and above? My child was in the 3s apart from a QCA Optional Test (whatever that is) where he was a 4 in reading.

Anyway, I'm happy with the results as its pretty much where they should be in year 4.

3b/3a is more the typical norm at the end of year 4 so if anyone is reading this and thinking omg mine is behind, they probably aren't and the posters dc below are not representative of average.

I think the main point of level is to see progression, and we see this so much as the year is made up of children who range from September to August birthdays....

If you start Y4 at level 2a in maths and end up at 2c you may be below the expected level but you have made good progress, similarly if you start Year 4 at 3a and end at 4c you have not made good progress even though it is a good level in and of itself, one would be looking at what is holding the child back.

When i look at a school I am more interested in the progression overall of children from entry level to the end of their time there. After all it is no great shakes to take children from bright, motivated, high achieving homes and turn out bright, motivated, high achieving school leavers. but if you can build and nurture children across the board to progress and achieve then that is a school doing it's job and serving its pupils.

My DC end of Year Four:

Reading 5C
Writing 4B
Maths 5B

Could be better/ could be worse. The most important thing is that DC enjoys school.

Its interesting that writing always comes up lowest. Your child must be verging on genius Goldie.

Those levels are obviously very good for the end of year 4.

Is probably a good thing that DCs school only gives levels out in year 2 and year 6 although the DC get told about levels and so I know what they've achieved in different things. I know my DC are achieving above average and I know they've progressed during the year.

If you start Y4 at level 2a in maths and end up at 2c you may be below the expected level but you have made good progress no you have regressed 2 sublevels (or more than a year's progress) similarly if you start Year 4 at 3a and end at 4c you have not made good progress actually it's a sublevel progress and may indicate good progress over time (looking at the bigger picture)

Not always. DD is year 4 and her writing level is higher than either reading or maths - she has a particular talent in that area.

Level 5s in year 4 are very good, but not genius territory. :)

you are right I got my sublevels mixed up I'm going to blame the heat and sleep deprivation (not the fact that I have dropped many many sublevels and levels since I was at school and now barely function as a human being)

can't help noticing that no-one with normal/expected levels or below in year 4 is posting though!
